@virtualbuoy
everyone forgot that mlk jr. said he hated white moderates
he said white moderates were a greater stumbling block to freedom than the kkk. mlk jr said that.
yo can someone please tell me if this is accurate? Because that’s fucked up
yes and he was right
read the thing for yourself https://web.cn.edu/kwheeler/documents/Letter_Birmingham_Jail.pdf
Most relevant paragraph
“I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically feels that he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by the myth of time; and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”
He wasn’t wrong. It is, sadly, still true today.
“…who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice.” We talk about this in seminary all the time: peace that is won by one side holding its foot on the other side’s throat is not peace. When we pray for peace, we must pray for peace with justice, never at the cost of justice, made by silencing the oppressed.
Fellow white people, don’t just reblog or share mlk jr.’s more palatable “hate cannot drive out hate” type quotes and ignore the fact that he also said challenging things like this. We must hold ourselves accountable. We must not be lukewarm. And there is never a “more convenient season” to act to secure rights for all people – the time is now.
He also had a speech to the APA that openly called out white people for caring more about “riots” and damaged property than the fact that Black people were suffering under institutional violence.
He called out white people regularly for their lack of empathy for Black lives and their continuance to spout respectability at Black people than hold the white policymakers accountable for their racism.
Boost tf outta this for MLK day.
We’re done talking about “ I Have a Dream”.
if I don’t reboot this, assume I’m dead
If you like the wellerman, try on this classic
this is a pathologic ass song
The Chemical Worker’s Song. Not far off our current days’ wage slave experience. I’m telling you, you need Union Songs.
Sailors aboard a ship used to hum to warn the captain they were THIS close to a mutiny and didn’t like conditions AT ALL. Because humming was something others could keep doing when you stopped. Anyone comes close you stop, but the hum of the rest keeps on and they can’t prove who, exactly, is doing it.
Just saying.
Sea shanties are a gateway drug to work/labour songs of all kinds, labour songs always end up including union songs, and that’s how you end up extremely hardcore for organised labour.
And if people want more information, this particular song is called “The Chemical Worker’s Song (Process Man)”, written by the Canadian folk group Great Big Sea.
Sea shanties and labour songs are an active tradition! Are you pissed? Sing about it.
Dreame App keeps stealing my art (and other artist’s!)
Dreame App keeps stealing my art in the worst way possible. They not only steal it, but seeing that they very carefully remove any credit, signature and other indications of where the art comes from, makes it very clear that they are aware that what they’re doing is wrong.
I’ve tried to contact them, reported them to Facebook many times, but nothing seems to work. So I’ve made a video, and even though there’s only a slight chance that it will get more than a few dozen views, I wanted to try - because I don’t know what else to do.
I know Tumblr hates links, so if you want to help, find me on YouTube (search for eleathyra).
It’s seriously so disheartening and frustrating to watch this happen, especially when you’re struggling financially yourself, and they profit from your work without even mentioning your name.

So Sue on display is a replica and the real Sue is behind the scenes being kept safe and studied? Cool.
This is fantastic and begs the question: So why the hell are we not just making replicas of everything then and returning the artifacts to their original creators/owners?
I love seeing dinosaur fossils in the museum. Knowing they’re replicas does not detract from how amazing they are.
And since most people do not know they’re replicas, I feel like we could just replace all the things (totem poles, masks, etc) with replicas and no one would notice or bat an eye.
I ask myself this aaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll the time. There are some replicas used, of course, but not as many as there probably should be. Using more replicas just has so many advantages. The originals go back to the people they belong to, artisans and crafters (hopefully of the same group that made the originals) get employment creating the replicas, we get to learn more about how these things were made in the process of remaking them, guests could actually handle and interact with things, etc.
Ok so fun fact but in the US we actually are! @kaijutegu can tell you a lot more than I can, but replicas are one of the ways the museums in the US maintain informational displays while still complying with the repatriation part of NAGPRA. :)
Hi tumblr people my best friend’s family members house burned down hours into the new year, they have no home insurance and one of them has cancer. “we all know why” just say it’s because they’re white. say it out loud with your whole entire chest. trump supporters aren’t being stopped from storming government buildings because THEY! ARE! ALL! WHITE! that’s it. just say it.
Don’t forget that it isn’t just that the rioters are white, it’s that the COPS are white, are right-wingers, are tr*mp supporters. The cops are letting the rioters in. The cops are moving the barricades for the rioters. The cops are literally taking selfies with them. It is an inside job. The cops are part of it.

Landlords have bills to pay as well, but they should be standing shoulder to shoulder with their tenets against the larger power. The banks are the problem and the government is backing them up instead of having the backs of the citizens that vote them into power.
