My most old-school internet opinion is bring back chunky scroll bars! I don't want some scroll bar so discreet I can't even find the fucking thing. I want a nice Windows 98-level of obviousness.

Solarpunk has failed. It's time for the Solar Gothic. Show me an environmentally conscious world that is haunted by its past; where its failures still intrude upon the present. Where the characters live in the shadow of a decadent but much more materially wealthy past whose crumbling edifices mock them with the waste and the missed opportunities they represent. Show me characters who remember the promise of modernity, the story of ever-growing progress, and either lament that it is not for them or continue to cling to it like madmen. Show me a world that's trapped, claustrophobically, in an anthropocene that they are only gradually learning to manage, and where all former illusions of mastery or permanence have been dispelled.
Why is it revolutionary to know a person?
Someone I have worked with for a decade is retiring. He and I have been close- weâve traveled together, shared meals, talked about our families and our hobbies, spent time. We text. We talk. Weâve know each other for ten years.
I went looking for a gift for his retirement, and found a watch that relates to the specific kind of car that he works on as a hobby. I bought it, and then invited people to chip in if they wanted.
My coworkers are acting like this is miraculous?
âHow did you think of that?â I knew he had a hobby and I googled it?
âHow did you know he works on those?â I listen to people when they talk.
âHow do you always buy such good gifts?â I listen when people talk to me. Most people are dying to talk about their interests. You just have to give them an in. If your memory sucks, start a note in your phone and write down what people express interest in. Look at it every so often before you hang out to refresh your memory.
âI never would have thought of that.â I didnât, really. I just spent 20 minutes looking at eBay and Etsy and a few subreddits. Itâs easy if you try.
Honestly, if you want to make connections with people, express interest in their passions. Itâs easy if you practice it.
got my first ever official customer complaint because when i was going over the terms of their life insurance they were like "well i don't plan to die" and i was like "well you're going to"

âTo all of you down there on Earth â and around Earth â We love you, from the moonâ
- Astronaut Victor Glover before planned communications blackout due to loss of signal around the far side of the moon
WE ARE NOT TALKING ENOUGH about the fact that a Black man led the human race to the farthest we've ever been in the cosmos today!
Victor Jerome Glover Jr. (born April 30, 1976) is an American naval officer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut of the 2013 class. A former F/Aâ18 pilot and graduate of the United States Air Force Test Pilot School, he piloted the first operational flight of SpaceX's Crew Dragon to the International Space Station. Glover served as a flight engineer on Expedition 64 and became the first Caribbean American astronaut to live aboard the ISS.
On April 1, 2026, Glover launched as pilot of the Artemis II mission, becoming the first Black man to travel beyond low Earth orbit and the first to journey to the vicinity of the Moon. He is also, along with the other crew members of Artemis II, the first human that has traveled the farthest from Earth.
And he did while his beautiful Black family watched from home with the rest of us.

What the heck! As of this reblog, this comic has 21 notes. Apparently a little reblog chain happened, but I donât really remember noticing. Much higher numbers than my usual 0 or 1. My first taste of success, and I totally missed it!
honestly, if I had a comic take off I wouldnât mind this one. I still like the joke.
god i'd be so hot if i was rich and disciplined and neurotypical and rich
In most societies, beauty standards can be summarized by the question "what represents wealth?" So, yes.
she asked me if i believed in god and i told her that when i was four i almost drowned in a public pool and in my panic mistook a stranger for my father. i clawed my way up his leg. four years later heâd send my parents a picture of the scars alongside a tin of cookies. he said, âi hope sheâs still okay. i carry her with me. it isnât every day you save a life. it isnât every day you feel like you were here for a reason. when it does happen, you have to cherish that memory. for once, i had a purpose. just being there was enough. she tore me open but she taught me a lot about love.â
itâs actually quite easy to take over a small local government group if you really want to, bc if you volunteer consistently people will just put you in charge of whatever. Iâm now one of like three people at a nature preserve making official decisions about trails, events, putting in a prairie, and designing a series of illustrations for a storybook trail etc., and itâs just because last summer I started coming over once a week to help the naturalist out for a couple hours. Mine now. you too can steal an organization and shape it to your will đ«”
I donât think you can raise your children in an isolated âoff-gridâ way without being massively fucking abusive. Every few years there is a news story about an abusive and/or neglectful parent taking their children out of society and forcing them to rough it in the woods with no medical care, education, socialization or interaction with others outside of the familial unit and it usually results in someone dying or being traumatized for life. And people are sympathetic towards them online. It is fucking evil. Isolating children only benefits their abuser. It takes a village. You know damn well why they donât want anyone else to teach, speak to, play with or watch out for their kids, control.
Nothing makes me feel more weirdly influential than the fact that I took this screenshot of a facebook video because I thought the AI's proposed questions were funny, and in the year and a half since that I've come across at least five different facebook pages posting a cropped version of my screenshot, some of them without even knowing it was a video in the first place.
