A lot of people on twitter wanted me to explain how I draw expressions, so here you go
Unless you're drawing explicit realism, in my opinion, expressions should be exaggerated to some degree. If you aren't doing a 1:1 recreation, the point is to get the FEELING across. Try making the expression you want to draw and feeling how your face pinches and stretches.
Skin doesn't just "disappear" when your face moves it around --- that's where wrinkles come from! Pay attention to where your skin creases when you emote, and use it to your benefit. It's a fine line between overdoing it and underdoing it -- find your own balance.
Ultimately, every expression has a little bit of push and pull, unless your face is completely neutral (and even then, there are still some wrinkles...). Learning to think of expressions as actions and reactions is VERY helpful in learning to draw them without needing a reference, and in learning how to stylize and push expressions based on references as well!
I think a lot of people end up with stiff or unexpressive emotions in their art because they're just trying to recreate a picture instead of understanding WHY and HOW the face is moving --- and it's a tough thing that takes a while to really pick up and learn. Hopefully is helpful in showing a way of thinking about it that can influence your process and approach to emotions!!!
Also, bonus: even without the lines, the planes alone still show a LOT of emotion.
Here’s a little Art Tip about a very specific part of the body. Pop a squat and see how it looks on you.
heyy!! im a beginner artist and love your art sm can you maybe make a how to draw poses tutorial or something, i rlly need some help and your art style is just so scrumptious ❤️🥲
My style is highly based on quick hand gesture drawing so instead of me making a tutorial, here are few resources on where i learned it!
Learn what a figure drawing is
Understand what line of action is (my fav thing ever it helps with making interesting shapes and flow)
Practice
“line of action” website is amazing for that
I also recommend this playlists from”New Masters Academy”
At last, watch proko
Their free tutorials are more than enough to get you started
Also turn down line stability it helps you with line confidence
HAVE FUN!!!

TRY POSING, PERSPECTIVE AND MOTION
u don't HAVE To go wild with it every time, tho! if it fits the mood, go for it! but subtlety is fine too!!!

JUST DOODLE SHAPES! LOOK AT IRL PICS FOR REFERENCE!
look for the most basic shapes... the triangle, circle, and square.
They're in there, i promise.
RadenWA is honestly a hero for these

any advice for picking fun and vibrant colour palettes that still feel true/recognizable to an object/setting/character's base colours? something about intense lighting?
I've been asked about how I choose my colors by a lot of people and I finally sat down and made a whole ass youtube video about it!
I'm usually not reblogging tutorial videos and stuff but since i'm trying to get way better at color theory myself this is the FIRST TIME i actually understood what was going on so i want to keep it safe on my blog here
Any tips on drawing chubby men? I've always struggled with this, so I thought i'd ask the expert(you)!
You're very sweet thank you! There's all kinds of different body type details but these things are really helpful to remember!
If you're chubby yourself- you can be a great reference! I base many big guy drawings off my own body pretty often because there's things I once felt uncomfortable with- drawing them on others feels nice. Creases, bumps, rolls- depending on musculature to body fat ratio they can be different but where there's bends especially, everyone has little bumps and creases. Different chest shapes- bigger guys in general have all different kinds of chests. Good to remember bigger guys who've had top surgery sometimes have very flat chests, or concave chests from being scooped out 👁️👁️ Neck fat- as mentioned not everyone has a double chin, but if you're bigger most likely you're going to have neck fat. Remembering this is something I notice in other people's art and always appreciate seeing a soft jawline or a bump. Hope any of these small details are of help. I feel like 50% of the work is in the silhouette, 50% is in the smaller details like these that I pointed out 🥺 I wish you luck!!
Here, take these
I forgot I have to be active here so here’s my Twitter tutorial on how to draw folds I made a while back to help a friend!
