Newton’s first law of motion states that an object in motion will remain in motion, and an object at rest will remain at rest, unless acted upon by a force.

“Resistance” by Hilary Clarcq 6″ x 6″ oil on panel hilaryclarcq.com
Created for the 2019 Month of Love week four challenge, “Blindness.”
One of my favorite movies is “I Heart Huckabees.” There’s a scene where Brad Stand (Jude Law) repeats the question, “How am I not myself?” over and over. It’s a good question. I like to ask it over and over, too. It’s worth considering what ideas/people/emotions we show resistance towards and what we hide from.

“Mortal Sister” - 22x31, oil and gold leaf
Seattleites! Come by and see me and my latest painting at the upcoming reopening of @roqlarue gallery during Capitol Hill art walk next Thursday the 11th! — I’m fascinated by Medusa. Her agency is often reduced to the stony gaze of her severed head that adorns Athena’s shield, but she was the only of the three Gorgon sisters to be mortal - I wanted to reveal the potential for intense humanity in a character remembered only as a monstrous totem.
