The whole film took me altogether about 5 grueling months (usually 10-12hours a day) to do. I often felt my butt was going to grow into the chair I usually sat at. 

Please note that this was simply my way of doing my film to achieve the soft-shaded style I wanted; there are many other ways of doing this and some are a lot faster with different results~! :)

You can see my storyboard animatic here (although the original had music, but like I mentioned, my placeholder music was by Joe Hisaishi, you know, Miyazaki’s composer, so it’s not really legal to upload it). 

This tut differs a bit from my dA version, because tumblr lets me put the combination of gifs and jpegs :D.

January DTIYS with Ibu_Chuan and VixenMink 1/24

Happy Friday folks! Time for some project updates (Yayyy!).

In The Loop:

@Ibu_Chuan hosted a DrawThisInYourStyle challenge last month over on Instagram and had the public do their take on this wonderful original character.

I got a chance to view a lot of the entries for this challenge and I gotta say I was quite impressed.  They all ranged from different styles, and different takes on how to position this girl, using a full range of media.  I even got a chance to see other people who also placed her in a teacup which was quite amazing.  Swing on by the tag #DTIYS_Ibu to see the +2k masterpieces that helped create yet another successful DTIYS chapter.   You can read more about what DTIYS is in one of my previous posts here (https://vixenmink.wordpress.com/2019/12/11/draw-this-in-your-style-craze-explained-plus-convention-updates-12-10/).

Paint Parties and why you should join one Plus a new Artist Spotlight! – 12/12

What is a ‘Paint Party’?

As a child, there were always events held at my school that helped our class expand their skills and let us try something new.  It ranged anywhere from athletics, to music, and academics to art. As an adult, it is harder to find some of these events mainly because it is harder to find the free time as an adult, as well as there isn’t always a location to find out any upcoming events in your area.

For those of you who like to try something new, there are events called “Paint Night”, “Paint & Sip”, “Painting with a Twist”, “Paint Parties”, “Wine and Design” and “Painting Under the Stars”. Most feature music, beverages, painting on canvases you can bring home, and a local crowd of other adults looking to change up their usual work schedules.  It is an extremely fun experience and if you have had a bad experience at one of them in the past, just try a different one.  No event is ever the same and the same can be said about the people that attend.  You can always Google search any of the above terms based on your location to see what is offered closest to you.  Have fun!

Her website and artwork focuses on empowerment, mental balance, and awareness through the use of a canvas and paint.  She spent 90 days writing a book promoting self-love and impressing oneself and in August, she completed and had it published for release in September.  Seeing her grow from late 2018 and throughout 2019 has truly been a blessing. If you ever want to brighten your day, you can stop by one of her pages to see the newest person she has influenced.

Draw This in Your Style Craze EXPLAINED Plus Convention Updates! – 12/10

What is ‘DTIYS’ and why?

Have any of you heard of the term “Draw This In Your Style?”

A lot of artists have been picking up on this concept over the past few years and it leaves some who aren’t involved in it asking “What is it?” and “But what is the point?”

I think it is simple to say that every artist in the world has had another artist they have been fond of either for their art style, color choices, concepts/layout, or just the way that they draw certain things in a portrait.  This alone stems fans to either create ‘fanart’ or mimic what they see so they can learn to improve their own art skills.

Because social media is so powerful, artists are using this to their advantage to promote themselves as well as inviting the artist community to get involved. The rules are quite basic where the ‘host’ artist draws an original character and challenges ‘fan’ artists to draw the same character, but, the catch is, for that fan artist to use their own style to draw the host artist’s original character, which results in creating what is called a ‘collaboration’.  A lot of times, these collaborations end up resulting in the ‘fan’ being recognized by the host artist and it can create an opportunity for them to work on art together again in the future, if they make a good enough impression.

If you have an artist that is your mentor, sometimes fanart is the best way to gesture that you like what they are doing more than colorful language. *Whisper* Just don’t forget to give credit where it is due.

There are a lot of conventions going on this weekend, starting December 13, 2019, so I will make a small concise list with the dates included for each one.  Which one is closest to you?  Have you been to any of these in the past?

What is “Community” to you? Plus Convention Updates! – 12/5

What is ‘Community’ to you?

Do you ever strive to be a part of something bigger? Do you ever want to find other people to celebrate with who have similar tastes as you in entertainment?  Do you just want to find a community to be a part of that makes you feel like you are at home?

If so, you aren’t as different as you feel or as people claim you are.  Over the past several years, community conventions have grown in size as well as variety.  There is a home for anime lovers, NEETs, video game enthusiasts, artists, comic book buffs, furries, reptilians, roboticists; you name it, and there is most likely a group or a convention that has people gathering to discuss hobbies and lifestyle choices.

Just remember, you are not alone in this world, and the internet is capable of uniting us all.

Welcome to December – 12/3

A Breath Of Fresh Air:

Hello everyone! How was your Thanksgiving?

Mine was very blessed and I got a chance to catch up with a lot of my family members. The food is always a plus to large family gatherings like these but being able to catch up with those I don’t often get a chance to connect with is always enjoyable.  Another year completed and a month until a different group comes to visit for more fun.

The Art Side of Things:

I am going to add a new feature to my site updates.  I want to dedicate a section to artists I have had recent discussions with and am overall impressed with their work.  I love supporting other artists’ work and I feel like everyone need a place to be spotlighted.  You can always send me a message if you want to be featured here or if you want to be removed from being featured.

Let’s Inktober: Day 22 – Ghost 11/18

Good evening everyone.  How was your weekend?

We are two post away from wrapping up the Inktober entries I had for last month. Today, I am sharing with you my post for ‘Ghost’.

Day 22 was inspired after listening to a song by Matt Fine, called “Ghosts”. I originally heard this song watching a video by Twisted describing Halloween food recipes and it made its way into my head as I was drawing a ghost. I kept it simple and had a lot of fun, too.

Let’s Inktober: Day 21 – Treasure 11/15

Tis a fine afternoon here for me and I hope it is going quite well for you as well.

Day 21 was inspired after listening to a song by Ivan B called “Be Alright”. The piano from it makes me sway side to side and slowly my imagination runs with it.

I see a mother going from being pregnant, to seeing the first moments with a baby and glimpses of them growing up until they graduate and move out of the house.

Parents give so much of themselves to watch their child grow and be alright in the world and I feel like the song could be a reflection of the parent having to get used to the idea of letting the kid go and live their life.  I imagine the kid and the parent aren’t on speaking terms; maybe because of a divorce. Kids will never know a parent’s sacrifice but they will respect it if you are accountable, supportive, and give your all when they need it.

Let’s Inktober: Day 20 – Tread feat. Nico Robin 11/14

Good afternoon everyone. Day 20 had me split between 2 different prompt lists; Jake Parker‘s and ArtGerm‘s. I tried to make it relevant to my likes and combine both of them and this is what I ended up with.

Those of you who have had any conversations with me about my favorite anime series will know One Piece is named every time.  It’s story and characters have so much depth and the morals of the series run deep within a lot of struggles society has dealt or is dealing with.  If you haven’t yet, give it a test run.  The length of the series is intimidating but the ride you are taken on will never be forgotten.

Let’s Inktober: Day 17 – Ornament (plus Thanksgiving ideas) 11/13

How is everyone enjoying their November so far?

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is 2 weeks away and everyday, I am giving thanks to my family, friends, and the talents I have been given in life. I hope to share more with you the closer we get to the holidays.

What types of food are you looking forward to making or being made?

Today, I share with you my Day 17 installment of Inktober from Jake Parker’s prompt list.

I tried combining a few things in one to make this really cool.  I took what I learned from drawing the bows on Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Scouts’ uniforms, how I used to style drawing Luna, and combined it into an ornament that I would love to make out of clay for my Christmas tree this year.

What color would you suggest the big cat should be? What about the kitten or baby mouse (could really pass as either one)?

Inktober Rewind: Day 15 – Legend

Welcome back everyone!

Day 15 from Jake Parker’s Inktober prompt was Legend. Now my idea behind it came from thinking of the word “Legendary” originally. I thought of the movie Legend and I Am Legend and couldn’t think of anything. The more I stared at ‘Legendary” the more I wanted to do something based on the word ‘legendary’.

Finally, it snapped and I wanted to draw a leg and something reminiscent of dairy.  A little cheesy, I know but in the end I came up with this.

Everyone I’ve shown has shaken their heads and I just laugh.  I think the foot and everything came out pretty well without a reference (minus the cow – I had to look up what their heads looked like).

Inktober Rewind: Day 14 – Overgrown

Day 14 from Jake Parker’s Inktober prompt of Overgrown came about from a separate set of ideas.

My first idea was to have a garden that was overgrown with weeds and then it translated into a tangled overgrowth and untamed flower.

Inktober Rewind: Day 13 – Ash 11/8

First thing I thought of following “Dragon” was the fire a dragon breathes usually leaves behind ash.  Without being too direct in drawing fire coming from my day 12 dragon’s mouth, I took another approach and thought of those burned by intense fires get cremated; and their ashes reside in an urn.

So for my day 13 from Jake Parker’s Inktober prompt list of Ash, I have a dragon urn.
