at the end of the day, contemporary poetry should be first and foremost about fostering an environment where we are all allowed to have a messy, fun time experimenting with finding our voices, to write in whatever styles make us feel energized, and to be able to use this beautiful, fascinating art form as a vehicle for creativity and self-expression. poets are allowed to have styles you don’t like. they’re allowed to make pieces that don’t vibe with what you’re looking for. poetry is a wonderfully expansive medium, and instead of funneling our energy into shaming poets we don’t prefer, we should be directing it towards supporting poets we love instead
