Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA costumes appreciation: ― Lucy Westenra’s lace dress (costume design by Eiko Ishioka)
Poster for Grzegorz Warchol's 1986 horror film, I Like Bats

I Like Bats (1986)
The tragic irony of Lucy writing earnestly about how married people should tell each other everything while Jonathan is being forced to write fraudulent letters to Mina is really heartbreaking.
He longs to be honest with her, but he’s not in a place where he can.
It’s also interesting because the two are not juxtaposed in the original book. The change to emails created something rather tragic.
Haha Jonathan you are sexually repressed
This book is one healthy polycule vs one unhealthy polycule and the prize is Jonathan Harker
Having read some really good analysis + discord conversations about how between the struggle to maintain his wits with the gaslighting, the dangerous and delicate social navigations, and having to manage the whims and emotions of a captor, Jonathan Harker’s role so far is a much more traditionally feminine one for the period and genre, I wonder if that’s an element of why his role is removed or minimized in a lot of adaptions?
It feels like they went “well we all know you’re here for the torrid monsters preying upon the terrified swooning women, so let’s just cut to the chase.”
#but yeah johnathans removal is awful as well as the other thing they do with him #ie make him a like example of stifling victorian london bigotry and such #and be a bad partner to push a dracula mina romance (via @bijonathanharker )
Oh man I got SO PISSED when I heard of this. How is THIS the character they decide to make a stuffy control freak trying to force his wife into traditional roles when every time he even THINKS of her you can see hearts floating off the page. How are adaptions even MORE regressive than a messy 19th-century novel?? (this is what pushed me over the edge into Jonathan Defense Squad 2.0 despite my resolution not to go through that again)
My humble contribution to all the Dracula memes
If anyone mentions how the pictures of Johnny Harker and Dracula and his weed smoking girlfriends are from different portrayals of Dracula I'll shit
Mina: I sure hope Jonathan is having fun on his road trip!
Jonathan, watching his mirror fly out the window and realizing he’s locked inside of a giant dilapidated castle on a cliff in the middle of nowhere with a man with pointed nails and teeth who doesn’t sleep or eat:
the reasons draculas doors are all locked is because that’s where he’s keeping his other soliciters.
He refuses to clothe them because Dracula doesn't support frivolous lawsuits.
Jonathan comes home and needlessly causes panic over the "dangerous Dracula horde."
Dracula, looking online at information on how to introduce a new cat to your home.
"It should be similar enough for solicitors, no?" At the enthusiastic nods of his brides, he continues to read. "We will keep them separate until they have time to get acclimatized to each others scents. This says it may take up to two weeks, I will handle the feeding and entertaining of the new solicitor until then."
@ignitingthesky You're so right about Dracula's warning about safe sleep zones having videogame horror vibes
I have yeeted the mirror that was on your wall
and which you were probably hoping to shave with
Forgive me it is a foul bauble of man’s vanity
My nam is Drac
And when I see
A mirrer not reflecting me
I screm and toss it
To the grass
That bauble’s gone
I yeet the glass
Jonathan Harker: guys… don’t freak out… but I’m starting to think Count Dracula… might be an ACTUAL dracula :o
