i wrote this lol. just in the wholesome way (sick maya sleep-channels her sister, who then takes care of her body)

its also a plotline in one of the AA mangas! pearl gets sick and her weakened immunity allows her to be possessed by a yokai lol. and mia basically kicks the spirit out of her lmao

fun concept! possession is unfortunately not super novel to me because my blorbo channels ghosts. also, the way this post is framed is super not my thing, as a sickfic writer i absolutely hate "this is pretending to be sickfic but it's actually something else!"

like. fun concept for others i am sure but if you trick me into thinking something is my favourite thing in the world and then the twist is that it's Not, i am being so real when i say that i will be parasocially hating you for the rest of my natural life.

You know what always amazes me about writing villains?

The mundanity of certain details of their lives. The fact that even an archnemesis character brushes their teeth, eats a meal, probably has a pet or two to feed. The almost tedious normalcy that unites them in some disturbing way with the rest of us.

I usually get stuck on hair, maybe because I'm a portraitist painter. Like here is this person who mains by the thousands, still bothering to wash, cut and style their hair. I'll use Doctor Who as an example. Simm Master has bangs! While he's taunting Cyber-Bill or ordering the Toclafane to slaughter countless humans, he's got bangs that have clearly been carefully styled. And Dhawan Master, he had to button up that shirt, and he has an undercut and has curled his bangs. Gomez/Missy spent forever painting her hails back and styling her curls into an updo. Look at the precision of Delgado's beard! They're not immortal demigods. They're capable of so much harm, and also, on some level, just people. What do we do with these mundane details? Are they endearing, or do they add to the horror? Or are they just sensory details that make them more "real?"

It just mesmerizes me, for some reason. Like, "is this anything," as the kids say? I dunno!

This - the mundane normal details and moments of banal tenderness in juxtaposition with the villain's horrific acts - is one of my favorite things to dwell on in villain-centric fic.

But in all seriousness yeah I love that too. It's actually why I tend to draw villainous characters laughing. I don't really post my drawings much anymore but back when I did people could have noticed that I very often just doodled portraits of this or that character laughing or smiling. I find genuine laughter to be something that everyone experiences at least once in a while and simultaneously something that is usually not given to antagonistic or villainous characters. I don't think like this consciously when I draw, but I think that that's the reason why I do it. That I view laughter as one of the most genuine expressions of emotions and I also like to think about the everyday normal things characters do.

And I'm also like...a huge proponent of "evil is something you do, not something you are" and while characters are just narrative tools I like to extend it to them too because...idk I don't want to slack in my beliefs if that makes sense? Like yeah I'm capable of completely divorcing myself from that mentality if we're talking about a completely unserious work if fiction that is asking you to put away all logic and instead be along for an unhinged cartoonish ride. But unless it's a work of art like that I prefer not to do it. Partially because it's also just fun for me? I like thinking about the mundane things. It's interesting.

Ok maybe this is a silly question but what kind of metal is Pink? I was thinking how great Maya's "Metal Magistrate is Mercury" theory is as a fun parallel to Manfrid having lead poisoning, when I was like "...wait, what is Pink?" Is she steel? Rose gold? I've only played through AA1, watched most of 2, and have read about parts of 3, so idk of its mentioned later but I couldn't find anything in the wiki about it? Is there something super obvious I missed?

we have more or less settled on the idea that iridescs are aluminum, and indeed that pink herself is rose gold because she's ~special~ by birthright.

in canon, we basically know nothing about the steel samurai canon lol. like it is shockingly bare. i think we get more info about nickel samurai than we ever do steel samurai. pink princess is even more barren in terms of lore tidbits, which is why bailey and i kinda just moved in and set up shop.
