Colouring Tutorial

A few people asked me to show my process and probably I invested a biiit too much time into breaking it down :p

Here begins the tutorial with explanations. Don't mind the Tiktok watermarks pls

1. I always begin with a sketch (I use 60% opacity brush)

2,3. 2,3. This method helps to see which colours will look harmonically with each other. You know these videos when an artists picks a colour which appears to be blue, but is pink in reality? This is the same thing. Even if the colour looks wrong compared to white just keep going and it's going to work, since all colors are chosen using the same base. Your brain will tell you which ones looks the most natural. Basically it's just ✨colour theory ✨Starting with this point I use masking layers up to the step 7.

4. Under hard Shadows I understand the places that will have a shadow no matter how you move the light source (even if they are just a little bit darker than others)

5. Since I'm Lazy I just use soft light to figure out the colours for the lighting and use a brush with bleeding to create soft Shadows & light.

7. Phew...Idk how to explain it. I just use eyedropper and triangles in order to make some shadows & light a bit harder.

8. Just add the light colour on surfaces directly facing the light source

10. For this step I use mostly green and red. Red for the space between light & shadow, but I put the red line in between only when the light is either very strong or very close to the area (to the point when there's little actual colour and is just light & shadow). When it isn't the case the shadow has a softer transition to the light. I choose the color inside the shadow just as a colour I didn't use yet. It should have the same value as the shadow & it should be cold to not to mess up the shadow colour (warm/cold). It's just a neat detail that makes shadows appear more unified.

The rest is just about adding details. Don't be afraid to ask clarification on any of the steps :3

Edward - hornet (because red and determined)

Al - the ghost (self explainatory)

Winry - 12th architect (mechanics with similar vibes)

Roy - Lace (asshole working for government)

Ling - Shakra (pure vibes)

Father - radiance (gold and vibes)

hohenheim - pale king (old asshole)

Lust - Karmelita (?)

Bradley - HK (self explainatory)

Scar - MAYBE broken vessel/ Traitor mantis lord

With the other ones I'm unsure yet.

Maybe it’s because I’m a guy that appreciates male beauty but Roy looks sexy to me with a thin mustache.

There's an old russian saying that goes "не усики, а пропуск в трусики" (transl. It's not a facial hair, it is a pass to a downware) and Roy Mustang can be a proof of the truthfulness of the saying (it's more of a meme, but whatever 🙄).

Even if I call the mustache "whiskers" and find them a bit funny, they are still sexy because it's Roy Mustang who has them.

His sex appeal transcends beauty standards and personal preferences - every Roy Mustangs iteration is equally, or at least almost equally, attractive no matter how he looks 😌
