Getting really tired of how all the anti porn censorship posts going around are like, "I don't like porn but I will defend it" or "it was bad for me to see porn young but it's better than the alternative." I like porn. I want to see porn. I was not damaged by seeing porn as a young person. Porn and erotica are valid and fun vehicles for artistic expression and completely normal expressions of human sexuality. This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.

OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.

And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.

not a ghost experience or even a supernatural one, but a bizarre unexplained occurrence that keeps me up at night nonetheless: I once found a real, perfectly intact pumpkin sitting on my doorstep one morning in mid-march.

fresh. showed no sign of having been frozen and thawed out. not carved or smashed or anything. no knock, no note, no nothing. I asked every friend who knew my address and none ever owned up to it, or even seemed suspicious. all shared my bafflement about how someone would even get a fresh, whole pumpkin in florida in mid-march. it's been years at this point and I have never gotten even a whiff of an explanation.

if you're ever looking to pull a completely harmless prank that will live rent-free in the target's mind forever...miraculously acquire a large, unwieldy, wildly out-of-season piece of fresh produce, abandon it on their doorstep, and never, ever tell them who or why or how the fuck

Not to put the post back on track or anything, because I would love to play this exact prank on someone, but my favorite supernatural experience I've ever had was back at my old apartment.

Picture this, it's Friday the 13th in October. It's approaching midnight. My massive 70 pound black dog needs to go on a walk before I finally punch out for the night. And my goth ass has a red collar and a black leash for him. As well as dark pants, my favorite skeleton jacket, and black shoes as casual wear. (And it's Halloween so like, cmon.) I'm walking through the neighborhood and I spot this Thing. It's this see through pale white streak drifting through the cold air. It's not going anywhere, hovering right there, just twisting and twirling in the breeze. At least, I thought it might've been, it seemed to be moving not in the opposite directly, but turning left instead of the breeze going right. My dog is not barking or even a little stiff, but he looks at me, I look at him, and then I start towards the thing out of sheer curiosity.

I get two steps towards it when every black, latino, and asian friend I have sounds off in my ear just absolutely roasting my dumbass. Calling me 'steve irwin of los spookies' and 'final girl material are we?' and 'make sure to tell hua cheng I said hi and his husband's hot' and so on and so forth. Realizing what stupid ass move I'm about to make, I go home immediately and be grateful for my amazing friends. Pass by the spot the next morning and there's absolutely nothing there to ever indicate anything was there, and never ever see it again in the entire ten years I lived there.

I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things

my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
