The VOXXI Team
We want to welcome Kalyn Belsha to the VOXXI contributor team. Kalyn is a journalist based in Chicago who is interested in all things Latina. She has contributed interesting pieces to our site about Latina mentorship, loving your naked face and trusting men to take contraceptive measures, among others. She is enthusiastic, timely and easy to work with. What more can an editor want?

Love pasta? Who doesn't! But is it good for you?
You'd be surprised to find out what research says.
You don't have to be Italian to enjoy a delicious plate of spaghetti or lasagna! You can go with fresh tomatoes, mixed vegetables, seafood or Alfredo sauce. The options are endless.
However, when it comes to taking a look beyond taste itself, you may want to learn that your favorite noodles offer both health benefits and concerns.
So, is pasta a friend or foe to your health?

Why do Latinos play soccer and not hockey?
The U.S. cities with the greatest Latino populations tend to have soccer and successful hockey teams. How then does soccer so greatly overshadow hockey in other Latin areas?

I have nothing now but praise for my life. I’m not unhappy. I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can’t stop them. They leave me and I love them more. … What I dread is the isolation. … There are so many beautiful things in the world which I will have to leave when I die, but I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready.

"Believe in yourself, invest in yourself and have leverage," Pitbull aka Mr. International, at the Superstar Q&A with Leila Cobo, Executive Director, Latin Content & Programming, Billboard at the Billboard Latin Music Conference.
What an inspiration! He was funny, charming and humble. Mr. 305 has been generating hits all year long but his favorite record is 'Give me Everything' as it tells the story of his life - "I took my life from negative to positive." Dale!

Body image: What can I do to keep my daughter from hating herself?
In a world obsessed with weight and looks, a mother wonders how to keep her daughters healthy mentally and emotionally. VOXXI Health blogger Amanda King says,
My girls believe they are beautiful. At ages five and two, they smile in the mirror and love having their picture taken, but I know they won’t always feel this way.

Autism linked to American diet
The epidemic of autism in children in the United States may be linked to the typical American diet according to a new study that explores how mineral deficiencies—affected by dietary factors like high fructose corn syrup —could impact how the human body rids itself of toxic chemicals like mercury and pesticides, reports the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP).
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the average rate of autism among eight year olds is now 1 in 88, representing a 78 percent increase between 2002 and 2008. Among boys, the rate is nearly five times the prevalence found in girls.

Food stereotypes or culinary racism?
To make it long story short: the fast food chain Burger King releases a new menu and with it new celebrity advertisements and renovations to many of its restaurants.
One of the commercials recently released featured Mary J. Blige singing about fresh lettuce and crispy fried chicken. It wasn't just a licensing issue that created much controversy, but the fact that a black woman was singing about fried chicken.
OK. Am I the only one here that thinks this has gone to far? Every culture has been labeled by food stereotype and there is nothing wrong with it as food is part of our roots and culture, speaks of our past and ancestors. So why the controversy?
Is America overreacting and becoming hyper-sensitive even when it comes to food or is it really racial stereotyping?
What do you think: is it culinary racism or food stereotypes? Your turn.
