Hot take unpopular opinion controversial confession time

I disagree with Owen on a lot of things. He sucks. BUT. When it comes to some of the things he says about Avid.. I’m Team Owen. SPECIFICALLY what I wanna talk about here is that I NEVER saw Avid as similar to Owen in any significant way.

Avid and Owen were like, THE parallels and foils of the series according to fans, and I just never felt that way??? And it honestly sort of made me MAD lol. Listen when Drift said that Avid was just like Owen but he never saw it and vampires can’t see their own reflections that COOKED ok I LOVE that line but like. I’M TEAM OWEN THERE. THERE WAS NO AVID IN OWEN’S REFLECTION. THEY ARE NOT AS SIMILAR AS EVERYONE LIKES TO THINK THEY ARE AND I NEVER ONCE QUESTIONED WHY OWEN “DIDN’T SEE IT”.

All people say is “you both turned because you were sick!” as if that’s all there is to it. Owen didn’t NEED to turn to survive, it was a real CHOICE, a tradeoff, exchanging the pain of illness for the pain of lost humanity, accepting that he would forever be an outcast. He accepted it yes because he didn’t want the pain, but ALSO because he wanted to be with Louis. He knew the risks of vampirism and accepted, knowing that on top of the loss of his pain he’d still have Louis, he was fine with losing everyone else as long as Louis would stay by his side. He chose vampirism fully embracing it for what it is, with no intention of ever turning against it. He was going to be there for his sire. His friend.

AVID, on the other hand, was going to die or worse. It wasn’t some sort of chronic illness like Owen, it was TERMINAL. He accepted vampirism as a last resort, with full intention of turning his back on it. He said it all the time, he wanted to vamp up then vamp down. He wanted vampirism with none of the downsides. He didn’t really accept it at all. There was no Louis either, really. Avid wanted Shelby to turn him just so he could run back to town and pretend everything was the same. Another difference, Owen was ALWAYS an outcast, and NEVER hostile towards vampirism. Avid tried to outcast others, very hostile towards vampirism.

Idk like Owen 100% had full reason to not be sympathetic to Avid’s situation imo. And the fact that people compared the two of them as turning for “the same reason” felt like an insult even to ME so I can’t imagine how OWEN felt.

I need to stress that I think Owen SUCKS like ok I love his character but he is a BAD AWFUL PERSON and I don’t agree with him 90% of the time he’s pretty annoying. But when it comes to Avid like, honestly I think he gets Avid better than many fans or even Avid’s own friends. Don’t get me wrong he’s still wrong when it comes to Avid plenty of times. But like. Bro I’m team owen they are NOTT the same 😭 also I love Avid I’m sorry you embraced vampirism a little too late.. also pyro and avid are the real reflections of each other k bye
