Nearly two decades later, I think it just fully hit me why Iroh told Zuko's crew about how he got his scar. It wasn't just to say, "Have some sympathy for him, he had a hard childhood." It was because the crew were all upset (rightfully so) that Zuko had said, "The safety of the crew doesn't matter." and Iroh was trying to point out that, yes, what Zuko had said was wrong, but that's not what he really thinks, at least, that's not what he used to think. There was a time when Zuko cared about the safety of soldiers he had never even met, so much so that he spoke out of turn, which is what led to the domino effect that caused all of them to be sitting on that ship together. And this is brought full-circle when Zuko climbs the ladder to help the helmsman at the end of the episode. And that's when the crew realizes that, temperament aside, Zuko actually has been and is still willing to put everything on the line for the safety of others.

I think most people know this, but just in case someone isnāt aware, just because Vulcan is a desert planet doesnāt mean thereās no large bodies of water. Sure, theyāre nowhere near as big as say⦠the pacific ocean, and Iām not sure Iād classify any of them as oceans, but Vulcanās got seas, at least.Ā
And an interesting thought (from someone who doesnāt know much about these things) but would the seas actually have waves and tides?Ā
Since Vulcan does not have a moon.Ā
From what I can find on Google it seems like without a moon, tides would be about 1/3 of what they are on earth (lower low tide and wouldnāt swell as much at high tide). This is assuming Vulcan is roughly-earth sized. And I would guess that a 1.4x gravity suggests itās close, but ever so slightly bigger.Ā Ā
Also, without a moon in the night sky their nights are going to be dark as hell. Yes, theyāve got the other two stars of their trinary star system to help out. But theyāre nowhere near as bright as the moon.Ā
To verify this, for folks who havenāt seen Discovery, thereās a scene where Sarek is at a beach:
Also according to Discovery, it rains on Vulcan and there are red trees. Whether or not this is a natural result of the climate or something artificially terraformed is unclear.Ā
But yeah. there seems to be various biomes! I think this is something work exploring. Also, the cityscape of ShiāKahr is gorgeous.Ā
Chiming in to say that while Vulcan has no moon, it has a sister planet which does have a moon (Thatās what weāre looking at in the sky in ShiāKahr) and here it is at night!Ā
Some people thought that this āmoonā in the sky was a continuity error but thatās TāKhut and her moon, baby!Ā
Oooh, now this is fascinating!
