Dogeaters by Jessica Hagedorn
Unlike the other Philippine Martial Law Lit and realist Lit, I found Dogeaters very entertaining. It could be on my faves list. The narrative of the story helped ease that draggy typical Martial Law story—actually, one would not feel that it was a Martial Law story at all (is it even or am I making assumptions?). It is more like of a peek into the lives of different Filipinos. The characters felt very much alive, and continues to shock the reader with their actions. I breezed through its comedic and dramatic tales and witty narration. I think it does capture the Filipino society quite well.
