my gender role was a tree in a school play :(
what is writing, if not old WIPs persevering
Love describing myself as a "chick".
Like. "Woman" ain't it. Too much pressure. Don't fit right. "Girl"? Closer, but also wrong. Too small. "Dude"? Much better. Sort of oblong, a lil sloppy, but it'll do. "Sir" is preferred on formal occasions. "Ma'am" is wrong. "Miss" is wrong. "Young lady"? No. Absolutely not. "Bro"? Yes. "Guy"? Eh, I'll take it.
But "Chick". Chick, I like.
Casual. Informal. Languid. Audacious. "He's a chick". Good. Strong. Powerful. "She's a guy". "He's pretty". "She's handsome".
Girl in a dude way. Dude in a chick way.
Feels good. Feels organic
i feel like when i first started hearing the phrase “oh that fucks” it was in reference to something that had kind of a charismatic machismo to it and did sort of carry the sense of “oh that thing is sexual and can Get It” but it’s now transformed into something that just means “wow i really like that thing” and that’s so funny to me. like i just said “this rug fucks” what does that mean. can this rug get it
They call that shag carpet dude
“Writing is really a way of thinking – not just feeling but thinking about things that are disparate, unresolved, mysterious, problematic or just sweet.”
— Toni Morrison
You don’t have to apologize for your story being “corny” or predictable. Are you proud of it? Do you enjoy writing it? That’s what’s important.
(Also while we’re at it: predictable ≠ bad)
needed to hear this
maybe you did too
someone said “your art is never a waste of time” and i thought that was such a beautiful and truthful sentiment that i should share.
i'm kindof obsessed actually
ok.
It is OK to try scary things and push past your comfort zone or try to gradually desensitize yourself to triggers to expand your world and opportunities. It’s also OK if you’re not ready for that.
Do you ever just look at your characters and go what little weirdos. I love you so much. I’m going to put you through hell, but dang if you didn’t help pull me out of mine. I would do anything for these little spitfires who live in my brain.
help meeee
I want to have characters to love
characters are not my strong suit
any advice is appreciated
I got WIPs and ideas for plots or settings... everywhere
Can anyone give me advice on creating characters? not coming naturally for me
Every romance book promoted on tiktok is just full to the brim with horrible "steamy" taglines that are just like... Eyes on me, Little Beast. I'm here to make you Damp
