One day ppl will understand that Greek gods aren’t tyrants with superpowers but rather forces of nature that are capable of both extreme cruelty and kindness and that they were used to explain the harsh and confusing realities that Ancient Greeks had to live through every single day and why they set up certain rules and customs.

One day ppl will understand that Greek heroes weren’t supervillains but complex human beings who are representations of the best and worst of humanity and that they aren’t remembered bc they were ‘heroic’ in a modern sense and that the Ancient Greeks rarely actually whitewashed their heroes actions but instead used them to tell fables and tragedies.

One day ppl will understand that Greek heroines did have power and agency in spite of the patriarchal society they live in, one day ppl will actually read the source material and properly learn about these women than take what retellings say about them like gospel.

It’s disrespectful to go to a temple and treat the gods like you’re defying them. Side eyeing them and trying to make yourself better than them

It pisses me off how dismissive some people are including some Greek mythologists

This is still an active religion

This is a country’s culture

The gods aren’t their myths

Treat the gods and religion with respect when going to a temple and in general

It’s common sense

The Hellenic Polytheism side of TikTok is so toxic and they don’t even do their research

They claim that the religion is not under the pagan umbrella

They’ll call it anything but Hellenic Polytheism

They claim that the gods don’t want to be worshipped and that the gods don’t care about us worshippers and they’re mad at the world

Overall, they take the myths literal

They don’t do proper research. They only rely on other TikTokers who doesn’t do research either

It’s just awful over there and I don’t even interact with that side. Sometimes Hellenic Polytheism videos pop up on my fyp and it’s just bunch of nonsense about the gods not loving us

The community is in better shape here than it is on TikTok

This isn’t what I normally post, but I just wanted to get this topic out of my system

Today is my birthday

I can’t watch the new odyssey movie and I’m not going to

Citizens of Greece asked for one simple thing and they didn’t get it

A movie shot in their homeland based on their myths, and the people were pushed aside

I can’t in good faith watch this movie

And others outside of helpol who are into Greek myths, don’t seem to care how this movie was created unethically

I’m just so tired of Hollywood trampling over cultures and not caring about the citizens of said culture

And I’m tired of fans of these producers eating it up all the time

Instead of the new dogshit Odyssey film you should watch Iphigenia (1977). It’s made by actual Greek people and focuses on a mother-daughter relationship to explore how women are sacrificed by powerful men in times of war. Also the main actress has the face of an angel 🙏 the whole movie is available on YT with English subtitles.

i love love LOVE that Artemis is always described with a gold bow and Apollon is referred to as having a silver bow/god of the silver bow. you’d think it would be the other way around— it’s like Artemis and Apollon switched bows as a kid :P

also how Artemis has domain over pestilence and is written to delight in the lyre! oooo and Artemis is always described dancing, while Apollon is often associated with graceful movement, athletics, and music. ugh them both being gods of the hunt too!!!
