As we barrel into another Pride Month, we will inevitably all see the stupidest, coldest, most reductive, exclusionary, assimilationist nonsense discourse simmer to the surface of social media again like scum foaming up on a long simmering soup.

And when that happens, whether it's garbage takes about trans people, or ace people, or nonbinary people, or neopronouns, or he/him lesbians, or bi women with boyfriends, or furries, or *what the fuck ever*- remember-

You do not need to quibble over the details. You do not need verbally spar on every hill that dipshits want to die on.

Just stop and ask- hey, does this fucking matter?

Does it matter if some queer people do _____? Does it cause any actual, measurable, material harm? Is this *actually* a problem? Be specific. Beyond just 'it makes me uncomfortable' and 'but that doesn't make sense' - does it actually *matter*?

Because if the answer is no, then who the fuck cares?

I don't care if something is confusing, or illogical, or weird, or makes you uncomfortable. Does it actually harm anyone? No? Then mind your fucking business.

Its not your responsibility to Lincoln-Douglass debate every overzealous puritan and under-informed tween on the complex nuance and inherent political context of the queer experience. Focus on what matters . Ask them what, if any, harm does ____ actually do, and THAT is all you need to address. (Oh you wanna defend ___ spaces? Which spaces specifically? What are you worried about happening? Oh is ____ normalizing ____? Does it? Does that...matter?)

Because even if other people dont like it, Queer People will continue to be weird, messy, confusing, contradictory, illogical, and strange as we all do our fucking best to be ourselves as best we can be. The way we survive and grow and thrive is by giving each other the grace and space to do so, whether or not we deeply, logically resonate with whatever others have going on.

And we don't talk shit about each other. We don't take pot shots at the queers who are queerer than we are. Throwing other queer people under the bus has never made things better.

So. Circle the wagons, close the ranks, and get comfortable rubbing elbows with people who are, you know, freaks and weirdos.

he and emma are not in love. their relationship is obviously a little more complicated than your average friendship since theyre both dating the same two people but neither of them consider themselves to be dating

he lived in a loop before cairnholm from 1920-1949 at which point he was (physically) 16 and olive showed up in 1958 when she was 17 he was immediately like "wow shes gorgeous too bad shes way out of my league and is only my friend out of pity cuz shes so kind and selfless oh god im so in love with her. welp, time to swallow my feelings and hope they go away :) i am the Best At Coping" meanwhile she was like "dam hes cute too bad he barely notices i exist and would never love me. ive accepted that doesnt feel the same but i will Never get over it Ever" and then they yearned for like sixty years until blackpool when he was like "oh shit shes dead thats really sad and on top of that i never told her how i feel and now i never can even though i know she wouldve rejected me. guess ill tell her now just to get it off my chest" and then she woke up and there was a few awkward days of both of them being really nervous around each other and not knowing how to define the relationship until they mutually agreed that they would really like to be gf & bf

part of his original reason for hating jake was because he always liked boys but following his transition and opportunity to completely reinvent himself between loops and successfully hide his old self, he repressed that as much as he was able since he needed to be a Real Man and Real Men Dont Like Other Men. he didnt really hate jake that much, he hated firstly abe and the idea of jake being like abe, but also the way jake made him feel. a bit after the movie he started having confusing feelings but it was actually olive who first approached jake and asked if people from his time were ever in relationships with multiple people and he taught about polyamory. with enochs consent she continued to be his gf while also exploring romantic feeling for emma which led to jake and olive both (sort of) dating emma, resulting in enoch having to confront the feelings he had been unsuccessfully trying to ignore. he wasnt really sure how to go about it but settled for an honest handwritten note slipped under jakes door and then hiding in his room for a few days until jake came to ask him about it and they are now bfs

hi i just remembered the rp shenanigans between movie!enoch and his dad and now i'm curious how you hc his parents to be

ALSO i still think your hc about him being an urban legend is the best thing ever,,,, how do u think he would react if he found this out

his parents were awful. his father was more physically abusive and just thought he was a freak while his mother was a more devout christian and tried to have him exorcised multiple times, she was entirely convinced that he used to be a happy "normal" child who loved them but then he got possessed by a demon and she could still "fix" him. pre-peculiarity manifestation all of his siblings would be punished with a beating and being locked in the attic but when they caught him dead-rising he was kept there pretty much full-time and beaten or starved as punishment for "bad behaviour". yea they were really bad.

i think regarding first discovering his fanbase, hed be... confused to say the least. hed be a bit freaked out at first but end up watching all the conspiracy videos and reading to the bottom of every blog, forum and subreddit in like 2 days tops and thinking its really cool that hes "basically into-net jesus" (his words). it would become some kind of 'gotcha' for the other kids during arguments, however, because they can just threaten to tell miss peregrine who along with the ymbryne council will get to memory wiping immediately upon learning of this so that always shuts him up. also, assuming that post-movie theyll more or less end up following the storyline of the books, it would make him even angrier about jakes fandom after library of souls since he was famous first and Literally No-One Cared. there is a half-finished scene somewhere in my notes app where they go clothes shopping a la amod and they meet this little girl who comes up to him all shy with her mum cuz her special interest is this urban legend from her home town and he looks just like the guy and she really wanted to show him the pictures and hes like "sure why not" cuz its kinda cute and then every single photo is of him, taken decades apart and hes like "oh shit"

do you have any movie!enoch backstory headcanons?

poor dear anon youve no idea the can of worms you just opened.

SO throughout the movie he places a lot of emphasis on the fact that he is a man and, being a young queer person who loves nothing more than projecting onto my faves, that obviously must mean hes trans. i also cannot in any way see him as neurotypical so growing up in early 1900s glasgow mustve sucked, especially since i hc that his family were extremely catholic (his mother was the most devoted but still). his parents always thought he was weird and there was a lot of comparison to his siblings, why wasnt he more like them, why couldnt he just be "normal", and his siblings also thought he was a freak. beatings & time locked up in the attic was a punishment for everyone but it happened to him the most

his peculiarity manifested when he was about 9 (1913) and after a few months of practicing on dolls and dead animals he started messing around with people and soon enough his parents walked in on him mid-epic battle and after that he was still beaten and/or starved for "bad behaviour" but being locked in the attic became a full-time thing. however, his family were quite well-off and needed to keep up their appearances so he was still dragged out to family outings in pretty dresses with his hair done nice and expected to be totally silent the entire time. he figured out that he was a guy when he was about 14 (1918) and he chopped off all his hair and shredded his expensive dress which made his parents furious. when asked why hed done it he told them that he was a man. his father told him that if he really was a man then he wouldnt have a problem proving it and beat him, insisting that if he was a real man he would fight back. so he did. he pushed his dad out of a window and he was trampled by a horse and killed. (i wrote a fic a few months ago about it that you can find here if you care, its bad and cringe and i love it) his mother decided that he mustve been possessed by a demon and tried to have him exorcised but he stabbed the priest in the neck killing him instantly and, angry and scared, lost control of an animated corpse in the basement that then killed his mother

his oldest sister was always the perfect golden child so after that she had him incarcerated in the local asylum for a couple of days (which was shitty and traumatic but nothing really happened) until his first ymbryne rescued him and took him to her childrens home in eyemouth. she was fresh out of the academy, incompetent, negligent and her go-to for solving disagreements or dealing with misbehaviour was to just slap everyone involved and call it a day. his housemates also thought he was a freak and were scared of his puppets so he felt like a bit of an outcast among outcasts. (based on when ransom said that most dead-risers are all in loops together since people dont like living with them) after about two years living in the home (1920) his ymbryne established it as a loop until 1949 when it was raided by hollows & wights. he was the only survivor. he didnt really miss the people themselves since he didnt know them and they all hated him but he still felt guilty because they were still young innocent lives snuffed out too soon and he thought (wrongly, but still) that if he hadnt run away like a coward he couldve saved them, that was part of why the bit with the hollow in the movie went down the way it did. anyway most ymbrynes didnt want a dead-riser in their loop but it was against their duty of care to leave a looped child wandering defenseless in the present so he stayed overnight here and there between loops until an ymbryne in wales with a relatively new loop offered to take him in because she believed it was contradictory not only to their vows but to everything they had learned at the academy for an ymbryne to turn a child away because of their peculiarity

also you just reminded me, i hc that jake had some mental health issues before abe died since ricky pickering existed in the movieverse but died in a car crash before the events of the film so (in similar circumstances to amod) enochs digging through jakes stuff to find some clothes that fit him and he finds this box with all this cool spiky jewellery and leather in it and he goes to show jake who freaks tf out anyone?

i think for the sake of his homunculi he would know how to sew and be quite good at it but horace is the clothes guy while hes more the guy you go to with a broken toy

i never really thought about poetry before, he definitely either thinks its stupid and pretentious or writes the most edgelord aura-farming emo shit youve ever seen. no middle ground.

i definitely do think hed be a fan of gothic lit, especially the telltale heart and frankenstein for obvious reasons

i feel like in a modern setting (or maybe in the loop and he keeps it a secret) he would have a cat, obviously a black cat, and hed name it some dramatic shit like "judas", "lucifer", "persephone", "leviathan". or he tells you all about his cute little pet called something like "cuddles" or "angel" and you get to his house and its a fuckin huge ass spider

also idk if hed keep one as a pet or just pick it up and let it crawl on his arm for a bit and then put it back but i feel like hed like centipedes as well
