Ghost Animate: WELCOME TO HALLOWEEN
it's so funny to me that conservatives think the reason university students become more liberal is because of the actual course material and not like. the fact that universities in the US introduce are oftentimes the first place Americans are introduced to a walkable environment with affordable health care, with community spaces for any affiliation under the sun where they give you free resources and cheap food. with included public transit and opportunities for training in your field of choice. and you realize that for how much you're spending on tuition/taxes, yeah, you do deserve these things, it would be insane not to have those. and then you graduate and go back to having to buy a car to drive 20 minutes to the grocery store.
It's also one of the first places a lot of people raised in insular, conservative areas meet "the other". People of other ethnicities and cultures, people of other religions, other gender presentations, sexualities, etc. You get to know them and start realizing how much of what you "knew" about them was myth or straight-up propaganda.
It's a lot harder to demonize queer people when the person helping you pass calculus is a trans woman, or your lab partner talks about his boyfriend exactly the same way you talk about yours. It's a lot harder to believe that immigrants are out to get you when your Hindu roommate cheerfully shares a care package of homemade goodies from home, or Malia down the hall covers your lunch because you forgot to bring your wallet to study group. You start rethinking some assumptions when the 6 foot spike-encrusted goth who sits behind you in lecture hall shows everyone photos of his baby niece dressed like a puppy for Halloween with all the pride of a new parent, and you remember when your flannel and camo-wearing uncle did the same thing at work last year with photos of your little sister.
Suddenly all those "others" are just people. They're your friends, classmates, coworkers, and maybe even romantic interests. And that's a lot harder to hate or fear.

Mad this. It literally says he got jailed for ignoring a court order telling him to stay away from the school - yet the headline says it's for not calling a kid they. He broke the court order cos he was being a self righteous stalkery Christian weirdo. I know the sort, they did the same to us at school cos we were scruffy poor unfortunates / desperate people that apparently needed god to save us. Loads of Christians are like this, proper weirdos.
timeline of events:
teacher misgenders a kid in front of his class
the kid politely corrects him and the teacher gets really mad and upset
a few days later there's an event at school. pretty much everyone is there. teachers, students, parents
during this event he makes an impromptu speech about how pronouns are bad. reminder that this event had nothing to do with LGBTQ stuff. it was like a big school dinner or something
he also goes on a huge homophobic rant. other teachers, students, and parents are annoyed.
he then follows around the principal all night begging her to "ban pronouns"
the principal repeatedly asks him to leave her alone
teacher does not fuck off
principal puts teacher on paid leave. tells him not to come to work tomorrow
he shows up anyway
someone showing up at school when they've been told not to is a security risk and also a crime
staff ask him to leave
principal gets a legal document forbidding him from coming to the school
he continues to show up to school multiple days in a row, despite not being allowed at the school
he is potentially a threat to students
staff ask him to leave or they will call the cops
he doesn't leave
he gets arrested
judge rules that because he wasn't allowed near that school, and yet still showed up at that school multiple times, putting everyone at that school in danger, he was found guilty of contempt of court
so no, this was not a teacher going to jail because he used the wrong pronouns. this was a ass wipe who couldn't take no for an answer and violated a restraining order, potentially putting the kids and staff at school in danger, so he faced the consequences for his actions.

The state of Utah in the United States has no citizenship requirements for marriage licenses, and Utah County is the only place there that allows international couples to register their marriages online. Since the county rolled out virtual weddings during the Covid-19 pandemic, it became a wedding haven for same-sex couples who are not able to officially marry in their own countries.
As sexual minorities in China face suppression at home, Utah County is allowing them to officially marry and celebrate their love — all for around $100. Although the marriages aren’t recognized in China, some 200 same-sex couples from mainland China and Hong Kong have gotten married via the county’s digital marriage license system since 2021.
For authorities in Utah County, the influx of international couples came as a surprise. The Utah County and Auditor’s Office moved its marriage licensing service online, as part of a digitization initiative in 2019. At the start of the pandemic, a number of couples requested Zoom ceremonies, and the county made those available as well.
The service first attracted couples in Utah, followed by people from across the U.S., and later, from all over the world. From May 1 to September 20 this year, at least 77 same-sex couples with mainland Chinese addresses have been married there, said county deputy clerk Russ Rampton, who oversees marriage licensing, to Rest of World.
Although same-sex marriage remains illegal in Hong Kong, under a different set of laws to mainland China, residents who get married in other places are able to apply for dependent visas in the city for their partners. Married gay people are also able to mark themselves as married in tax filings.
In his vow, however, [one marriage certificate applicant] Zhu said he was looking forward to getting married a second time — in China. “If one day our country allows this, I hope we could get married again in this country,” Zhu said to his husband before they kissed.

Marriage equality does not stop in the West.
Yikes
the exclusionists have won. They’ve excluded everyone. My god.
For reference, “allos” = “allosexual” = “anyone who isn’t asexual / isn’t on the asexual spectrum” so, according to whichever galaxy-brained exclusionist wrote the screenshotted post, no one who’s ace or who isn’t ace is LGBT. Not a single one of us
By Allos, this can’t be happening
