Honestly still kinda losing it over this scene. This moment hit harder then the finale for me.

The love and the betrayal, the way Chun knows its wrong to tell Jie to die but gives in to her fear, paranoia and nationalism instead of listening to her heart. The way there's actual nuance to it, its not just Chun being tricked by the bad guy, Jie herself acknowledges that her growing power has been changing her and that its possible she could become a threat. But they don't know it for a fact. Maybe Jie just needed to take a break and step back a bit from her work. We'll never know. Chun makes the decision to push her to sacrifice herself and spends the next 100+ years hating herself for it.

The way Chun chokes out lies about how the death of a family member is no big deal while unable to look Jie in the eye while she says it. The bit about fearing that she would see either Jie blindly believing her or Jie coldly condemning her lies aaaaugh. "When I'm with you… I'm… I'm happy." a confession of love used as a death sentence. The fact that Jie sees through all of it, sees the lies and is just sorry to have forced Chun to say those words at all, assures her that she would likely have done the same thing no matter what. The way Chun refuses to let herself cry because she doesn't deserve it. The fact that she spends the next 100 years rationalizing that this was the right call, that it was necessary for the greater good, only to instantly fall apart when she sees another glimpse of Jie…

i don't think they explored each others bodies, but i do think Chun harbored a deep fervent love for Jie that she only really came to understand in the years after she pushed jie to die and spent many a lonely night thinking about her. Her dead wife who is also her greatest sin that she can never forgive herself for, she spent over 100 years telling herself it was the right decision, that it had to be done and then a single glimpse of Jie was enough to make her completely break down and quit her job as the head of the magic cia, you just know when Jie comes back she's gonna be on that girl like white on rice.
