ANCIENT GREEK MYTHOLOGY MEETS THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES!!!
I have actually developed a little lore for this so here's some notes:
The eye: Athena (she's the goddess of wisdom so that lined up)
The Spiral: Hera (she drove many of Zeus's lovers mad)
The end: Hermes (he guides the dead to Hades)
The lonely: Demeter (her daughter died for 4-6 months of the year, so she's pretty lonely)
The Desolation: Aphrodite (well...I have too many examples)
The Slaughter: Ares (pretty obvious)
The vast: Poseidon (I mean, kinda like Prairie madness but water instead. That had to've happened)
The buried: Hades (obvious)
The Dark: Hestia (this one's a little weird, but maybe bc it's more she's home to creatures IN the dark instead of home for humans.)
The Corruption: Apollo (Apollo, while lesser known, is also the god of disease)
The web: Zeus (Zeus and The web don't match for any other reason that the web is about as close as you can get to "The king/ruler")
The flesh: Hephaestus (he makes stuff. pretty sure he also made the iron-men, gold-men, etc. but I might be wrong on that.)
The Hunt: Artemis (also obvious)
Sadly, I had to get rid of "The Stranger" bc none of the Olympians fit that very well. Also, I know that Hades is technically not an olympian, but I'm going to consider him one. The fears are olympians, hence why "The End" is not Thanatos. Apologies for getting rid of "The Extinction" as well. I was thinking that one could be Cronus, but Cronus is an told Titan while "The Extinction" is a new fear

For our people!! I had to change a bit of the mythology here, so bear with me!
Jon: Argus, instead he serves Athena, who guards/shepherds the statements, which are like "personified" (although they generally take the shape of animals). John is not a priest, and is more god-like because he is The Archivist. Not sure yet if he was always like this or if he was once human.
Mahtin: Serves Demeter. yes, in the myth it is Hermes that kills Argus, but I said I was changing a bit of the mythology. He is sorta like the replacement for Demophoön (apologies if timelines don't work perfectly here). He's not really ashamed of working for Demeter, but he just prefers company. He decides not to kill Jon when he falls asleep. He will often isolate himself while on missions for Demeter
Tim and Sasha: They are priest and priestess for Athena
Elias: Prophet for Athena
Basira: very good archer. she is very special to Daisy, so she's also sacred to Artemis.
Daisy: Sorta like a were-deer. Sacred to Artemis
Georgie: Catholic (lmao) so she isn't affected by the gods. (This may or may not change. Not really sure since she must've had a brush with Hermes)
I have no clue what to do for Melanie yet :/

So for a bit of lore/plot (???), Martin serves Demeter/The Lonely, and Demeter wants to kill Jon/Argus because he guards a cow which is special to Zeus/the web (perhaps a young avatar which has yet to grow into their role?). Demeter is mad at Zeus bc he made the Narcissus, which essentially kills Persephone (no clue what she is, probably one of the minor fears), and Demeter wants to get back at him. So she sends Martin to do it, and Martin does it (hence why he wasn't chosen as a web avatar) but lets Jon live.
Unfortunately I don't have a cannon reason why the web didn't see this coming.

Might call this "Magnibus Agribus" (the big fields, which is where the Fears/statements are guarded) and No I'm not checking my latin. the only other issue with that name is that I don't want to change everyone to have Latin names. Personally, I find it a lot easier to use the greek names so I'm going to stick with that.

For some facts about the art:
The top one is Jon and Martin, specifically nearing around the time where Martin *should* be killing Jon, but decides against it. Nothing too special with this one honestly. I'm definitely still learning how to do lighting while outside. Lighting when the main colour is BLUE is...weird. I'm proud of putting the olive and wheat laurels on them.
The second one is Were-deer Daisy and Basira. I tried to be able to keep her hijab, and I hope I managed something acceptable. Not too proud of the clothes though, I probably could've done better on her but I'm not going to redo it. then! there's daisy. My god am I proud of her, probably everything about her. I even referenced a brown wolf for her hide. So yay!!! I love the teeth too. Normally when I draw an canine showing their teeth, I go for the stylised approach of them bearing the back teeth, but I wanted to do something cool and actually make it a bit more anatomically correct, so I did that and holy hell am I proud.
I'm pretty proud of the semi-lineless style.

Also, avatars who are fully fledged are generally oracles. Jon isn't an oracle bc he is THE ARCHIVIST, and Martin isn't one either because he never died and became as powerful as Peter.

Well...that was far more rambling than I thought I could've actually done. I hope someone likes this. I dunno it was just a thought. I had to read Edith Hamilton's Mythology for summer reading, and finished TMA around the same time. Now I'm working on Wolf 359 and holy shit do I love that too.
I used really love Mythology back in 6th grade, but I found other interests. Never really left though, and I do still love it. So here I am, taking 30 pages worth of notes on a book I've already read. The only pet peeve I have is that they say "Hercules" when talking about a Greek myth. Technically it's Heracles, which means "Son of Hera."
Also, I remember doing this one assignment where we had to take a myth/story and turn it so it was based around health, and me and my group did the 12 labours of Heracles, and it ended with a giant boss battle between a Hercules, Sid the Sloth, an all-powerful principle, Gordon Ramsey, and Twitter birds which would cancel you. It was glorious and we had to present it.
