Yes. It is appreciated and okay when a woman obviously feels unsafe for a man to help her. When a woman is being uncomfortably hit on by a man and another comes to her aid, it is a kind thing to do, because she could have been in real danger.
But the problem is that in television shows and even real life, men that come to a woman’s aid have been led to believe that they will get something in return. It has become expected. And that is not okay.
I was leaving my school late the other day when a male came up to me, making me extremely uncomfortable. Another guy noticed this and pretended to be my friend, making the dude leave me alone.
I thanked the guy and started off towards my car, to which he stopped me and asked for my number. I looked at him like he was crazy, and said no. He started to become angry, saying that I should be gracious that he saved me from that guy.
I replied to him, “I am gracious. But now it is you that I need saving from.”
My friend (a girl) who stays after school was leaving, like me, and came to my help then. The guy left, we went to my car, and I waited till she got to her car before I drove off.
That night, I got a friend request on insta from that guy. He had jumped in my dms, and his exact words were, “hey, since you kinda owe me, send pics?”
The point of this is that, men, please, don’t expect shit from a women. If you help her, don’t expect a number or even a conversation. She is probably still scared out of her mind.
Helping someone in danger should not have expectations. It just means that you are there for them.
