âThatâs... disgusting.â
touchkillsâ:
âYeah.â It was all he could think to say at the momentâ before more words came spilling out, âYouâre right. That was shitty of me. Iâm sorry.â The words likely didnât mean much to Laurie, but they were about as genuine as Kevin Ford was able to get.
âThanks.â Laurie replied flatly. âIt does make me happy to hear that. It doesnât magically fix things, of course, but it seems like a step in the right direction.â
icetomeetyouâ:
âSummer friends?â Bobby wracked his brain for a moment, âânot- that I can think of. Sorry.â
âYeah, a summer friend. I thought that made sense. Like someone with the opposite of Elsa powers. Oh well. Maybe one will manifest soon.â
A Book Of Magazine - 2017
mvltipleâ:
âGuess notâ but what if deep down itâs some reflection of me? Sorry for going all soul-bearing on you. Thatâs uhâ kind of a fear of mine.â
âThen itâs a reflection of a part of you, not the whole thing. We all have parts that we wished we didnât. Yours are just a little more visible, maybe. Itâs nothing to be ashamed of. Life would be way too flat if we were all perfect. We just have to learn how to handle those parts.â
icetomeetyouâ:
âNope uhâ I-â Bobbyâs words trailed off as another bout of nausea hit, ââI- uhââ
âYou look awful, and I donât mean that in a mean way.â Laurie entered the room fully to kneel down by Bobby. âHave you had any water?â
touchkillsâ:
Kevin did as he was told, closing his eyes for a moment as well as he worked to control Laurieâsâ his breathing. After a few seconds of silence, an eye was cracked open as Kevin glanced at Laurie hopefully, ââanything? Please tell me that worked.â
Laurie watched him silently, finding it strange to observe the way in which her own chest rose and fell. Her eyelashes fluttered as he concentrated. Looking at yourself in the mirror was far different than seeing yourself in person. âYeah,â a weak smile grew on her lips. âYouâre slightly less irresistible now. It was a little weird to be attracted to myself.â
touchkillsâ:
Kevin let out a bitter chuckle, âOf course. Heard the prodigal son was finally coming back to you anyway. So, no hard feelings?â The question was hypothetical, Kevin not expecting a serious answer as he debating turning to walk away, âSay whateverâs on your mind, I can take it.â
âYou could too, you know. Ben got out. Itâs possible. But no. Not no hard feelings. This isnât that kind of situation. Itâs way more complex than that.â Laurie took a deep breath. She hated talking about her feelings. She hated unloading and she hated being vulnerable because she always felt weak. Small. Adding to that wasnât fun. âI liked you, Kevin. Thatâs why it hurt so much. It was different from Ben because it felt more personal. I thought you liked me too, and I get that I was wrong, but it made it hard. And--â she took another gulp of air with a small shake of her head. âI still kinda do and I shouldnât. So Iâll try to stop. But there you go! Thatâs whatâs on my mind.â
bdeedsâ:
âFair enough,â Ben nodded in agreement, although the observation didnât sting any less, ââand I have no idea. Just- play it by ear I guess?â
âYouâre going to play your Hellfire Club membership by ear? That sounds dangerous. Theyâre serious, Benji. I donât think theyâd like to hear youâre doubting your commitments and from what Iâve seen the Frosts donât mind peeking around with an invitation.â
xwarpathâ:
âCan you say that for sure? Have you met the Hellfire Club?â
âYeah, I have. A lot. A decent amount of my friends defected to them.â
symbrvckâ:
âNobody wants to be eaten. Thatâs a foolish thing to say.â Venom replied, his tone blunt.Â
[ Be nice, you idiot. ]
âYou donât look like a bad person, anyway. Too little, too polite.â
âOh, really? I try to be so thatâs nice to hear. A good person, that is. Not little. I canât really change my metabolism. Iâm Laurie, by the way. I should tell you my name if you know about my metabolism. Whatâs yours?â
hellsdeviilâ:
Matt shrugged. âI was just curious, itâs not a problem. I would imagine that bringing back food to the Institute would get you a lot of unwanted attentionâ people wanting to mooch off of you and whatnot.â
âItâs more about convenience, actually. Iâm usually tired from training so we just grab something from the dining hall. I donât really mind sharing. Some of my friends arenât as passing and donât want to go out so we order takeout instead. I donât really have a preference.â
smoothas-silkâ:
âProbably. They need to be informed that having a sparkling water fountain, opposed to a regular water fountain, should be a crime.â
âI can kinda see where they were coming from? People drink sparkling water too. It just seems a bit unnecessary though.â
hollcwmanâ:
He nodded guiltily as she pointed out that he was rough but he was surprised to hear that she thought of him as a good person. Sure, Jono didnât think he was a bad guy, he tried to do the right thing, but he never once considered himself as a good person. He felt like he was too self absorbed and never did enough to actually make a difference in someoneâs life outside of blasting some baddie with his fire hole. As she went on he could feel his flames tumble inside of him, it was almost bubbly in a way, something he hadnât felt in a few years. âIâm just being honest, sunshine. Thank you for sayinâ what you had to, it means a lot, but please donât go blaming yourself for what happened with the cleanse. Itâs not like you were the one that did it.â He felt his flames flip inside of him. âI know itâs been a while since then⊠But-â He trailed off. Why did he suck at this so bad? It wasnât like he was some school boy anymore. âWhat would you say if, I donât knowâŠâ Spit it out, Jono. âIf we maybe picked up where we left off?â His flames were twirling around inside of him and he hated it. âUnless itâs too weird for you. I would understand.â Between their age difference only growing, the amount of time they spent apart, and the fact that he was still some no faced creep.
âI... Thank you, then. I never really thought I had any big kind of impact on anyone. Wallflower, right? Shrink into the background and stay there.â Itâs what had always worked for Laurie. People didnât expect more than that from her and maybe it was for the best. It stopped her from going too far. âI canât really explain how I feel about the Cleanse. Guilty, sad, mad. It changes but itâs always a bad feeling and it never really goes away even though it wasnât my fault.â It was the courtesy of Thanos, someone that Laurie had never even seen. âI think I would like that,â her voice was hesitant. âBut you have to understand that some things are different. Iâm different,â and she wasnât even sure how. âCould we start slowly?â
hollcwmanâ:
Jono relaxed after hearing her thoughts. One nice thing about not having a mouth is that you donât accidentally blurt out the first thing that comes to mind, in this case it would have been Thank Christ. âI think thatâs a good thing.Youâre better than the lot of them. Feel like you could actually do something to bring peace.â That was something Jono was jealous of. He hated and feared his talent for destruction. If he could trade in his mutation for one that could create heâd trade it in a heartbeat.
âItâs hard for me to believe that because I know them. Some of them. Or, I thought I did. Ben isnât... Heâs not like Reeva or the Frosts. I know what everyone is saying but I canât make myself believe it.â She shook her head. âMaybe, but Iâm not willing to use my powers in a way that would really let me do that.â
bbombshellsâ:
âWhat? Someone had to say to say it.â
âIâm just not sure what it is, exactly, that youâre saying.â
icetomeetyouâ:
âYou know, did you ever stop to think this polar vortex wasnât fun for me either? Mother natureâs stealing my brand!â
âDo you have any summer themed friends who could help us out then? Iâd ask Juanita or Angelica but I havenât seen them in a while. All I know is that Iâm sick of freezing my butt off.â
