Meet 2016 intern Daisy Grant!
Daisy will be a senior at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD this fall.
If Iām being honest, the 1998 Lindsay Lohan remake of Parent Trap.
Favorite type of cuisine?
Italian. Pizza and pasta never get boring.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?
Car Talk when Iām with my family. The Moth Radio Hour when Iām by myself.
What is your favorite magazine/newspaper to read?
The New York Times, but I read it mostly online. I love their newsletters like the āMorning Briefingā and āThe Upshot.ā
Why did you want to participate in WAMUās Summer of Service?
My motivation was twofold. Iāve gotten really interested in journalism and media production over the course of my high school career so I wanted to use this internship as an opportunity to look into future careers. I also wanted to volunteer for an organization that truly benefits a large community, and I think that informing people can often be the best way to help.
What is the best aspect of working at WAMU so far?
Itās never quiet-- thereās bluegrass or WAMU programming playing in every little nook and cranny. At first, going into the bathroom and hearing Kojo Nnamdiās voice coming from the speakers above was a little unsettling, but Iām over it now.
Whatās one thing youāve found interesting about this yearās presidential election?
The fact-checking. Not only is it darkly entertaining when they catch the candidates in a lie, but itās also comforting to know that people are looking into what the candidates are saying and not just accepting it at face value.
What is your least favorite food?
Which book do you think everyone should read?
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Frank Lloyd Wright. The buildings he dreamt up are iconic, but theyāre also backed by some pretty inspired philosophical thinking.
Whatās one thing you wish you could change about life in the DC Metropolitan area?
Not to sound repetitive, but, right now, the Metro. Iām optimistic about its future!
Whatās the best part of waking up?
It sounds cheesy, but when Iām going to sleep, I always try to pick one thing that Iām excited for the next day, no matter how small. The best part about waking up is remembering the thing Iām looking forward to and being excited all over again.
If you could report on any event past, present or future, what would it be?
The first modern Olympics in 1896.
