When you found Nick Fury laying on your bed at midnight on a school day, you decided to leave everything behind and join the earth’s mightiest heroes. Yes, your parents were worried sick when you told them about it the next morning, but there wasn’t much they could do about it anyways. There was no point for you to stay in college, seeing you basically hated your major. Your mom and dad knew your life had greater purpose when as a kid, you’d never get burned by fire, or feel too cold in the winter. You soon learned to control your fire powers, not considering for a second to hide them since they were a big part of your identity. Your parents reluctantly let you go, and soon enough, you found yourself living in the Avenger’s compound.
The first month living there, you mostly spent it taking wrong turns and ending up in the wrong wings of the facility. It was actually alarming how many times you got lost. You didn’t seem to mind it too much though, considering you’d bump into someone who would lead the way for you most of the time. Trainings were the worst, especially in the beginning, but you made it work eventually. You’d mostly train with the redheaded woman named Natasha, who soon let her guard down, becoming your best friend.
Five months had passed since your first fighting session with the Black Widow, and as cliché as it could ever be, you fell in love with your closest friend. You noticed she was much more open with you than the other fellow heroes. She’d come pick you up in the morning every day before heading to the gym to train with you, and you always opened your door to her with a smile on your face, even knowing she’d be kicking your ass a few minutes later. Sometimes she brought you a morning snack. Always so curious and attentive to detail, she chose the ones she knew you loved. “After this, we can go have proper breakfast together, alright?”. And of course you wanted to. You always wanted to do everything with her, just to be close. Even silence was comfortable with Natasha. There wasn’t much physical contact in your friendship, but you’d try and seek it every now and then.
While having breakfast with Natasha, she asked you to come watch a movie in her room that night, and you happily agreed to it. You left her at the table, made your way to your room and just before entering the shower, you heard your phone chime. You checked it. It was a text message from her.
You can choose the movie by the way!! :)
You chuckled, and put down your phone. She was so cute, you thought to yourself before showering.
In the meanwhile, Natasha just locked her phone, placing it on the front seat of her car. She had decided to tell you how she felt about you later that night, and she wanted to make it special for you.
The nearest supermarket was only a ten minute drive, and that was where she was headed.
After stepping out of the car, she grabbed a shopping cart and immediately started her snack hunt. While reaching for a box of Reese’s, she felt her phone vibrate in her jeans’ back pocket. She took it in her hands, hoping your name would pop up on the screen. And it did.
Umm, Harry Potter it is! The first one! Only if that’s okay with you…
Needless to say, it was. She knew how much you loved the saga, and the sparkle in your eyes when you talked about it made the butterflies in her stomach fly straight up to her throat, blocking her from forming a coherent compliment about the way you looked in those moments. She’d once told you you were cuteful, not being able to decide between cute and beautiful. She cringed at her Cady Heron ways memory, and texted you a simple “of course :)”.
Focusing back on her task, she grabbed candy and chips, along with coke and a can of Arizona tea, just in case you’d prefer drinking that instead of coke tonight. Just before making it to the cashier, she noticed a package of perfectly curated Harry Potter cupcakes on a table. This was destiny, she needed to tell you. After adding the cupcakes to the rest of the snacks and paying for them, she went back to her car and drove to the compound. Damn, she really felt like a kid in love.
Lunchtime came soon but waiting for dinner only made Natasha more impatient. “Don’t eat too much, I’ve got a surprise in my room for you!” She told you, cheeks flushed red. “Alright, tomato girl.” you answered with a playful tone, immediately regretting calling her that. Why were you this stupid? That’s a joke a five year old kid could’ve made.
Natasha only blushed more, and waited a few minutes before standing up and winking at you, inviting you to follow her. You placed your plate in the sink and made your way to her room shortly after.
When you stepped inside, you were shocked to see that Natasha had all of your favourite snacks displayed on the bed. “As I mentioned earlier, I had a surprise for you!!” She said excitedly. Your face lit up at the sight of the redhead’s timid smile. “Thank you for doing this for me, I really appreciate it, Tasha.” She urged you to come join her on the bed while mumbling a small you’re welcome. The movie was ready to be watched, Natasha only needed to press play on the remote. You grabbed a bag of chips and waited for the Black Widow to start the movie. When she did, all she could really focus on was you, the way you smelled, the way your weight would make her bed sink down a bit further than usual, the bed that would be empty if it weren’t for your sweet soul laying next to her. Witches and wizards were being sorted into four different houses while she was trying to summon up the courage to tell you about her feelings for you. With a bit of hesitation, she abruptly paused the movie, turning around to face your confused gaze.
“Do you know why I invited you over tonight?” she asked. “To watch Harry Potter????” you tilted your head in confusion, Natasha nervously giggling at your oblivious answer. “Well, I guess that’s one reason. Not the most important one, though.” she bit her lip. “Okay so, what’s the important one?” you asked. “Y/N, I want to buy you your favourite snacks all the time if it means I get to see that charming smile on your angelic face everytime that I do. I’ll buy you all the snacks on earth and watch every Harry Potter movie with you.” she just kept on rambling, completely lost in her weird way of confessing her love to you. “Do you get what I am saying, Y/N? NO! Forget it, don’t try to guess. You deserve to be told like… like I really mean it, because I do.” At this point, you weren’t sure where this was going. “I want to wake up next to you in the morning, I want to cuddle with you and help you blow dry your hair when you’re too tired to do it. I want to take you to Disneyland, I wanna buy you flowers, I want to kiss your cheek whenever you feel sad. I want you to talk to me when you’re upset, so I can make it better for you, and I want to hold your hand, place it on my chest and make you feel how fast my heart beats when we’re together. I like you, Y/N, I like you so much. Screw it, no more diminishing feelings out of fear. I love you like I’ve never loved anyone else before.” Natasha didn’t notice the tears streaming down your face until you pressed your lips against hers, for her to feel the salty liquid. The redhead was caught by surprise, but reciprocating the kiss wasn’t a problem at all, considering she was waiting for this moment to arrive for what seemed like an eternity. “I’m sorry I made you cry, love. It wasn’t my intention.” you took her hand in yours. “How does one simply not melt into a puddle of tears after hearing such beautiful words being spoken by such a beautiful person? I love you too, my angel.” Natasha laughed. “You make me blush, Y/N. And I’ll let you call me that just because it’s you!”
You felt so lucky to have her. But to be honest, you also wanted to keep watching the movie.
“Can you press play again Tasha?” you asked, with a fake pout. “Only on one condition.” her heart started beating faster in her chest, and she started leaning closer towards you. The redhead suddenly was overwhelmed by the sentiment of love and adoration she felt for you, and she figured she might have been staring into your eyes for quite a bit too long when you raised your brows in confusion. “Oh,uhm… only if you’ll cuddle with me. If you’re okay with it, obviously! I would never want to make you feel uncomfortable.” she spoke. “Nat, it’s you. I don’t think you could make me feel uncomfortable even if you actually tried.” The redhead’s smile was wide on her face, as she took pride in what you just said.
She shyly wrapped an arm around your shoulder, but the position wasn’t too comfortable for you. You took initiative, feeling Natasha’s body tensing up, and guided her to lay on the bed, asking her if you had her consent to put your head on her chest. She could never deny you such tenderness. The way her hand fit in your hair felt natural, and you sighed at the feeling of your scalp being caressed by the woman beneath you.
As the movie kept on going, your eyelids began to feel heavy. Not sure if you should stay, you gently removed your head from her chest, immediately missing the drumming of her calming heartbeat. “I’m getting sleepy, I better go before I drift off here..” Natasha shook her head. “Stay here with me, love? Please? Let me hold you until you fall asleep.” the older woman suggested.
You nodded timidly, rosy cheeks on display. Adjusting yourself into your previous position, you arm was securely wrapped around Natasha’s waist. “Nat, check this out.” you said, while warming up your body with the help of your fire powers. The temperature was just perfect, and Natasha sighed at the feeling of your warmth covering her. “I had no idea you could do it without burning other people! This is so cozy, I could just stay in your arms until the day of my death.” she giggled. “Let’s hope that day will be as far away as humanly possible, we have a lifetime together awaiting us. Let’s just focus on tonight, baby.” Relax filled your body while the russian spy traced tiny circles on your back. Her featherlight touch was everything you needed to fully close your eyes and forget about everything else. The feeling of Natasha’s lips against your forehead were the last thing you felt as you drifted off.
“Goodnight, my sweet girl.”
