i gotta be real with you guys im just sort of stunned tumblr has been running an open-front ZenDesk form for tumblr TOS reporting this whole time that doesnt require any kind of validation except a fucking email address. this one fact alone explains every single "why did so and so get banned for no reason" event of the past X years. however it is equally baffling that i didnt notice it before now. i would say it is baffling they implemented it in the first place but like i said, the management of their website is verifiably not well

Genuinely, I think the most publicly visible AI advance so far this year is how thoroughly and abruptly the "image generators can't do legible text" problem has beem fixed.

For those who haven't been paying attention, this is a recent ChatGPT output. It can do this sort of dense sensible text in images totally one shot, so don't rely on bad text to identify AI images any more.

I've seen other people do much more sinister things with this! You can produce 100% realistic fake screenshots of news articles, tweets, that sort of thing, if you can convince the bot it's kosher to do so.

I don't think I'd be so annoyed by the various media with the premise "The Man wants to control what art people can make, and this made the world Sad and Gray, but we can fix it by adding Color and Music" if literally any of them had anything to say about the *actual* method by which the people with power control what art does and doesn't get made (IP law, publishing, and curation) instead of just having a Fisher Price Department of Wrongthink that arrests/kills you if you play anything other than the One Approved Genre Of Music or paint a dog without a license.
