“The Oasis” by Berline Hope H. Isiderio
As soon as I grew conscious of the things around me, I started my journey in life just like a journey on a desert, with loving everything under the sun and moon. My amazement for the sun and the moon in this poem represents my anticipation for each day to come. But soon I realized that not everything under the sun and moon is worth loving. As I continued my life, everything hurt to the point where it numbed me. All of a sudden, everything went vain, empty, and cold. I couldn’t understand why I felt that way at all. I tried so hard to not let it get me but turns out, it’s been eating me for so long already.
As I grew tired of the things I used to look forward to in my everyday life, I asked myself when everything will finally come to an end? I knew that I can’t keep going on in this monotonous life with no obvious direction to take. I thought of giving up with life or to be specific, I just wanted to die. But every time I think of doing those things, God always gave me something to look forward to in life, which represents the oasis in this poem.
God was not specifically mentioned in my poem. For me, it’s hard to describe His magnificence. My human mind cannot fathom all the wonders He made in my life. All I know is that despite my occasional doubt of His plans for me, He still kept on showing me His love in many ways such as giving me things to live for. The oases here are still small but I know there is something bigger God has stored for me in Heaven. An oasis that will make me happy forever, an eternal life.
