I'm making a large skeleton like puppet. This is a first test to assess the movement of the arms.

It was great meeting a kindred spirit and fellow dragon puppet creator at the Colorado Renaissance Festival. Unfortunately I'm terrible at remembering instagram handles - I thought they said it was @kazehito but I'm not sure I got that right so if anyone can confirm I'd like to give them credit for their awesome creation.

I had a lot of fun with my Edward Elric puppet at NDK.  Biggest downside was that the Alphonse armor is not very comfortable to wear for a long time.  I thought it would be fun to make a Hobbit puppet and I could be Gandalf (who I seem to resemble more and more these days).  I wanted to make a puppet head that was more sculptural and less generic muppet.  This has taken several attempts.  (I might be able to use my first attempt to make a fish or possibly a snake puppet but not a Hobbit).Anyway, here is the current Hobbit head.  It looks a little more like Farmer Maggot than how I picture Frodo or Bilbo but I think it will do for now.  Adding hair might help.

This was my cosplay for 2021 NDK.  I had a lot of fun with it.

I haven’t updated this page in forever.  Does anyone still follow this tumblr?  I get overwhelmed by social media sometimes so if you want to follow my cosplay you probably stand a better chance following IG rhisiart_the_wanderer or FB Rich Ellis Cosplay.  I make no promises though.

Here is a quick preview of Kog’Maw for tomorrow’s Cosplay competition at NDK.  Hope to see you there.

Kog ‘Maw as she stands so far.  Still working out some issues with the interface between the head / face and the body which is why i haven’t started painting it yet.  Redid the mechanism that raises and lowers the antennae so that part is working much better now.

Trying to get a sense of what Kogmaw looks like at least partially assembled.  Specifically - does the interface between the legs and the body look OK and can I move in it?
