Hazel Scott playing two pianos at the same damn time with ease
Hazel Scott was a musical sorcerer and a civil rights hero. She:
was admitted to Julliard at 8.
was performing in top venues by 16.
pioneered “swinging the classics” and made the equivalent of a million dollars a year doing it.
was the first person of color to have their own national TV show.
went to Hollywood but refused to be cast as a “singing maid.” Demanded and got control over her casting, her wardrobe, and how footage featuring her was cut.
refused to perform in segregated venues and led charges for integration in several northern cities, notably Spokane.
She was brought down by the House Committee on Unamerican Activities, and has been largely forgotten. But she was a sorcerer, and a hero.
@theladyragnell
Let’s un-forget her.
So I learned something new today!

I want Her to treat me like Her little science experiment. I want Her to push and prod and test out all Her wildest ideas on me until She breaks me.
And I know She'll put me back together, time after time, just to break me again. There's nothing more I could wish for.
R.I.P. The 2976 American people that lost their lives on 9/11 and R.I.P. the 48,644 Afghan and 1,690,903 Iraqi and 35000 Pakistani people that paid the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit
A 10-year update to this post:
R.I.P. to the more than 4,500,000 people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and Syria, who have lost their lives as a result of American occupation.

fyi was watching the news at my parents' house and the way he's being described by mainstream news outlets is as "someone who reached across the aisle to try to engage progressives in healthy debate" and it's absolutely imperative that we do not let him be remembered in this way. we are not going to revise history and pretend he has ever done anything other than lob logical fallacy after logical fallacy at a bunch of college kids so he can clip it into flashy videos for his youtube channel. he did not argue in good faith, he did not try to find common ground with liberals or lefties, he would sit in an auditorium for hours dodging questions or making ad hominem arguments or bringing up non sequiturs until his time was up. there was no intellectual engagement happening here. I think it was probably a fun debate exercise for the college students to be able to identify logical fallacies in action, but nothing of substance was being argued or discussed or acquiesced upon. his two goals were to make fun of libtards and to give young white men nazi talking points coated in a veneer of social acceptance.
Let’s not forget his third goal: to groom and indoctrinate girls and young women into becoming submissive wives and willing victims of domestic abuse, including reproductive coercion. Source

It's not just to have a "do over" that doesn't involve the original cast, it's to cut them out of the royalties. Literally the entire point is to make sure all the money made by Harry Potter goes to transphobes or people willing to work with transphobes.
If you watch it, you are supporting bigotry, hate, and oppression. That's just objective reality. All for a story that you probably have already seen in movie and book form.
#the last point is especially true since the old cast receives royalties for anything with their likeness on it#meaning the original trio still gets money for every mug with their 14 year old faces on it#if they stop making those and replace them with the new cast which they will the old cast gets cut off completely#which is again exactly what rowling wants because she cannot stand those 'ungrateful brats' as she would likely put it#and as she has last say in anything that gets made in harry potter paraphernalia this might also explain the decrease in faces on products

I hate Rowling so much.
There's people in the notes saying they're going to watch it anyway, and you know, I understand how you can start feeling so burned out and numb from the world that it may feel too hard to avoid things that will give you a little immediate relief in some way in order to avoid the long-term impact of funding these things.
But. If you can't bring yourself to avoid watching it, you better at least fucking pirate it.
FYI, Rowling posted this today. She is actively queerphobic, do not support this project in anyway.
I know that this was a foundational thing for so many people. I was one of them. Without Harry Potter, I probably wouldn't be the person I am today.
If you're thinking about watching this anyway because you feel all that nostalgia: It's time to grow up. It's time to move on.
Don't even hate watch it. Make it fail.
It is the easiest thing ever to simply not do anything.
Lmao what did the asexuals do to youuu.
I used to think that her rampant Transphobia came from a misplaced fear/anger towards men after her abuse at her husbands hand.
But at this point shes just fighting the queers for sport.
Absolutely amazing how AO3 is a part of the internet that doesn't sneak in any ads and doesn't have an algorithm and doesn't watch you or record how much time you spend looking at each fic or whatever. It's just right there to use for free. Legend
The internet was like this. This was the normal.
i had a thought of "do people not know what AUs are anymore?" and then i remembered nobody explains fandom stuff to new people anymore so it is entirely plausible people genuinely don't know what AUs are and nobody has explained it to them, so for today's lucky 10,000:
"AU" stands for "Alternate Universe" or "Alternative Universe" (same difference) and is basically any thought scenario for a fandom that isn't canon and can't fit within the canon universe. If it takes place in the canon universe but something is notably different, that is typically what's known as a "Canon divergent AU," because it diverges from canon.
an AU can be absolutely anything. There's a couple of widespread pan-fandom au scenarios that often get thrown around, like coffee shop aus, genderbend aus, hanahaki aus (hanahaki is a whole thing in itself i'd recommend researching on your own), etc. One you might hear sometimes is "crossover AU" which is when you have characters from one fandom interacting with characters from another.
You can have as many aus as you want. They can be whatever you want and you can do whatever you want in them. It's a sandbox for you to play around in and explore how things would be different or how the characters would act in those circumstances or environments. Maybe they have different relationships with each other. Maybe they behave slightly differently. Or you can just say "Okay, [x] is true. How did they get here? How would things have to be different for this to occur?" which can also be fun.
If you are ever confused about why people ship something that seems completely out of the blue or doesn't make sense to you in the canon setting, there's a good chance they like it in an AU setting! Not everything everybody is interacting with is necessarily the canon! Not everybody wants things to exist in canon and just want to explore playing dolls in a different sandbox and that's okay. And their sandbox might look a lot different than yours, and that's also okay. You have the freedom to make your sandbox whatever you please. Do whatever you want forever. Get funky with it. AUs are fun.
Okay that's my schpeal. everybody go have fun and play nice now.
There are canon examples of alternate universes, even! Many cartoons and franchises play with different versions of their own reality and then there's *Gestures at Comic Books*.
Lego vs non-lego for example. Lego is a legit AU!
Star Trek vs the Chris Pine Movies (and many, many alternate realities in various episodes). A coffee shop AU run by Manager Jim Kirk? That's technically canon based on Star Trek's Rules.
X-men (and marvel as a whole) work the same way. MCU, XMCU, Comics, many stories within the comics, are all AUs. In fact the rules in marvel are such that literally any setting or AU you can think of, from coffee shop to everyone being dinosaurs, is canon compliant. The latter is, in fact, canon. DC works the same way.
By the rules of alternate timelines, anything is possible! Want to ship Elsa with Kassandra from Assassin's Creed? Go ahead, totally plausible in an alternate universe. I know, I've written it ;)

During Ramadan, when your Muslim friends are fasting, is there anything you should be doing? You can follow these tips
Read this & be mindful of those partaking in Ramadan.
I would rather everyone read and shared this instead of “remember to tag your food/nsfw/etc!” post that’s going around every year. (None of these things actually break your fast and if you’re fasting and worried about seeing them, you shouldn’t be on tumblr).
Being considerate and kind goes a long way, so I’d appreciate if this post went around instead.
Cannot emphasize how funny it is that @bigfoots-biggest-fan got a writeup in one of the biggest American culture newsletters yesterday but didn't know it was happening which meant the top post on their blog was a copy paste of the John Green monologue.
Couldn't think of a better way to reintroduce the world's journalists and celebrities to tumblr.
