âNote to self. Mothmen traditionally form choirs. Iâll have to keep a book written down about demon information someday.â
For the sake  of not sounding any dumber than he already does pointing out the obvious like he just has, Kirishima only nods, the guess the other makes being right on the money.      âNever heard of either one, nope,â but then again, he was sure there were plenty of countries he didnât know the name of even from his own world. Even so, heâs interested when the man mentions âmagicâ because well⊠as out there as this place is already, something like that isnât something he can easily ignore.Â
âYou said âmagesâ though, right? Do you mean you can like⊠do magic and stuff?âÂ
Maybe one day another from Thedas will create a contract with the Velvet Room. Although if his friends were still safe back home then he couldnât complain.
âFor now it appears Iâm the only Thedosian here.â Even more pressure to set a good example for others.
âI was born with the ability to use magic. Unfortunately my spells were stripped upon entering the Cataclysm, but Personas should serve as a good replacement for the moment. My stave remained as a weapon anyway if necessary. Seems many worlds donât have any trace of magic in them.â
Others did but the mages there werenât hated for using it. Some were even praised. A strange thought and Daylen couldnât stop himself from being jealous.

âHey mister, whatâs with that outfit? It looks likeâŠâ Like something out of an RPG, if heâs honest, which is something that this situation is seeming more and more like. âWell, anyway, it doesnât look like anything Iâve seen before. Where are you from?â
By now the mage has become used to others questioning his outfit. The robes do help a lot with the cold, but many see them as strange. Is clothing in our worlds really so different from what he knows?
âThese are simply my robes. Mages such as myself wear them back home. The fact they help a lot with our current weather is but a coincidence.â Much better than arriving shirtless at least. Daylen had been in enough dangerous situations where most of his clothing was taken away.
âA country known as Ferelden in the land of Thedas. Iâll assume youâve never heard of it.â
Sight for Sore Eyes (Closed - Daylen)
To say that Cataclysm had many strange sights that werenât present where Leo had come from would be an understatement. Â There were lights that lit themselves, moving picture boxes, instant ways to share information, and even carriages that pushed themselves!
As such, when he saw mage-looking robes, and a staff, he felt nothing but relief. Throwing someone into a completely foreign world, the sight of anything remotely familiar was comforting. The robes may have been unsightly, but they werenât the most hideous things he had ever seen. No, it almost reminded him of a troubadour. And he had never seen a staff like that. He began to wonder what it did.
âAh, are you another mage? I happened to notice that staff of yours.â His focus was on the man (whom Leo definitely hoped was a mage) to gauge a response. He didnât look exactly like the mages back in Nohr, but it was certainly close enough to hope.
It had been just over a month since arriving in the Cataclysm. Daylen hadnât yet unleashed his Persona; choosing to focus on other resources first. The Warden wanted to build a good relationship with other Persona users and the demons scattered around. Apart from rumours a while ago, there had been no real news of shadow sightings. Though it was bound to happen eventually.
Taking this route provided a lot of opportunities. Perhaps he didnât quite get the hang of all technology, but he could prepare a meal for himself without burning the entire lodge down. That was progress.
Unfortunately time had also been provided to think about other mages. Not that the Hero hated them; he was no Templar for Makerâs sake. Yet it appeared most of the other magic users here never had to suffer the same stigma. Having spells was accepted or even encouraged. Most of them even just had to use a book rather than being born with the talent and either polishing it up or dying to demons. Left a bitter taste in his mouth heâd rather not tell anyone about. Covering up those feelings is what a Persona is for, right? A mask covered over your true self.
Being approached by another was a nice distraction. Their robes looked more similar to Rickenâs than his own. Perhaps they came from the same world? Only speculation though. Who knows how many worlds are out there let alone places with only small differences to separate them.
âI suppose you could say that. Although most likely our definitions of mage may differ. That has been my experience in this place so far anyway.â No one else seemed to know about the Fade. Let alone have a stave like his own. Winterâs Breath was made from pure magical ice and fit in well with these surroundings.
âNot that my stave performs functions right now other than bashing someone over the head if necessary. Personas are meant to be our main weapon here. At least from the sound of things they have their own version of magic. Makes the transition seem a lot less awkward.â

âYeah, come to think of itâŠwhen everyone was brought here because of those contracts, we never got a whole lot explained. We were just brought here and expected to know way more than what we got toldâŠI understand the urgency, but I wish we got told more. So can you blame me or mister mage for trying to make the best of things we have?â
The Jack Frost sighed, and shook his head again. Humans were evidently a frustrating bunch for the demon, but they nodded on response that the two were willing to fufil their duty should they stay there too.
< Hee ho - that settles that, then. I close up about 7 at nightâŠwould you prefer to stay here all day or turn up near then?>
Meanwhile, Rickem blinked, surprised by the older mageâs words: before tapping his chin in thought. âWellâŠyou do have a good point, but considering that us two humans - actual contract signers - will be there: maybe they wonât steal with seeing us there because they wonât wanna hurt us and destroy their side of the contract any more?â
It was childish, almostâŠbut a fairly well-worded question despite the evident overwhelming innocence.
Well this was new. Felt like demons understood humans as little as the reverse. Maybe even with this experience cooperating with other creatures would be as difficult. One would think those from the Velvet Room could give more of a helping hand. Unless their priority was just being vague and nothing else. Felt like having to join the Grey Wardens all over again with less blood.
âIf the both of us stayed, itâs likely the pixies wonât show up at all. While that would be nice it isnât exactly a permanent solution. Both of us will leave and come back a few minutes before then. We can use the extra time to go over the situation again. Worst case scenario, I shall go after them if they manage to successfully steal anything.â Who better than the experienced pickpocket to do so? Although Daylen only did it for the good of the people.
âAs our Jack Frost said not every demon is bound by the contract. It is possible our presence alone could interfere, but neither of us know for sure. Direct intervention is better than standing and hoping for the best. Besides, even if demons have no clause of helping each other letting it be isnât my thing.â
In the future the mage would gain his Persona and try his best to aid everyone. Small actions like this would build up and speak louder than words. Hopefully he could gain a good reputation with the other demons. Both sides depended on each other after all.
âPerhaps before we leave, introductions to our current employer is best  My name is Daylen Amell. I hope to stop this mess and gain the robe for him.â
Magic Pals (Closed- Daylen Amell)
<HehâŠyou really must be as naive as the kid you walked in here with if you think you can reason with the demons who donât play by the rules with that logic. Some of them didnât sign that contract, so they donât care if they get in the way of all universes beinâ savedâŠ.but thatâs neither here nor there, hee ho.>
Ricken stared and pouted a moment at being called a âkidâ, but he gave the taller mage a small moment of nodding in silent agreement - even if the Jack Frost thought it silly, heâd rather believe in the best of demons they spoke to, too. Most people and demons, heâd like to believe - were good people (or demons??) at heart, and the world was a place not as full of horrible things as seeing a war and having to hurt people might make some think.
..He didnât like thinking about the Yilessean war, so he preferred to focus on the bright side of things. There was a bright side here, too - the older mage seemed happy to help, but it seemed like he had a plan.
<Jeez, even a demon gotta rest at night, you know. Youâre giving me a real work-out, hee ho. But you guys probably donât have your Personaâs yet, huh? Gotta show my trustworthiness to the contractors I signed to as a decent shopkeep somehowâŠif the fight with the Pixies gets too out of hand, I canât guarantee Iâll be able to help too much, though, given how much they already got the best of me with stealing my stuff, yâknow.>
That wasâŠfair enough, really, but on the plus side, the demon had listened to the older mage.
< Persuade was successful! >
âWell, at least having all three of us face the Pixies will go a lot better if only one or two of us went, right? Maybe we might be able to convince them to stop stealing by asking nicely, too?â
The boy really was a firm believer in the good of folkâŠ.
It wasnât pleasant being essentially talked down to by a demon. At least it provided new information; apparently not every demon cared about the world possibly ending. One would think self-preservation is a priority. Despite the temptation to bite back Daylen stood his ground and kept quiet. He needed to set a good example for Ricken when bartering in the future.
âWhen given limited information we have to work with is given. Assumptions arenât the best, but we contract holders were thrown in the ocean without knowing to swim. This wonât cause us to suddenly present anger to everyone, but for certain demons; well thereâs always a way to gain cooperation.â The Dark Wolf here could be a lot sneakier than he presented himself. Hopefully thievery and deception would not be required as much here.
âYou arenât the only one who needs to rest. Still, we take the times when needed to perform our duty. If it means staying up to encounter the pixies then so be it.â The Warden isnât a very good sleeper anyway.
âJust your presence will be enough to show us both you arenât backing out, and to give us the robe requested after the situation is dealt with. I wonât allow our work to be done for nothing. We shall handle most of the fighting ourselves.
As for negotiating; somehow I doubt itâll be that easy. If you were stealing fro someone else you wouldnât just hand it over when asked, right?â
â„ = Characterâs preference for relationships, â = Weather the character enjoys, (ÂŽïŒĐïŒïœ) = What worries the character
Daylen views himself as someone who canât get into a relationship due to his position. He can certainly befriend others, but anything more is out of the question. The forced privacy of a Warden doesnât help matters. If actually in one he would prefer a partner who can respect he cannot be completely open; who is kind and cares for others like he does. Someone overly cruel or biased against mages would be out of the question.
Upon leaving the Circle he started to experiment more with ice magic. With that in mind and visits to the Frostback Mountains, Daylen has found himself actually preferring the colder weather. It means that compared to others in the Cataclysm you wonât hear many complaints.
He worries a lot more than heâd like to admit. Right now he worries about possibly dying here and never returning to the Wardens, if heâd be considered a traitor for apparently âleavingâ them now, how his magic has been sealed of without severing his Fade connection; that kind of thing. But he cannot burden others with those thoughts so they are sealed off and kept to himself.

The characters guilty pleasure: Daylen is an avid reader of books although most of them arenât fictional. He has an insatiable curiosity for knowledge and justifies his reading habit with this. Which is why he tries to keep his love of romance novels hidden. The mage is a romantic at heart although he canât see any love in his future. Stories where everything isnât going wrong are a nice break from reality.
What flusters the character: Honestly any apparent romantic or sexual interest would do the trick. Other mages were more open with their, ahem, urges back in the Tower but he stayed out of it. It meant that during the Blight dealing with Zevran was a new and unusual experience. At least with that experience he wonât become as much of a mess.

When the older mage leaned to whisper stuff in his ear, Ricken blinked, before nodding in understanding. Oh, rightâŠthat made sense. Gosh, he didnât mean to be rude, but everything about this was so strange and new! Heâd never seen creatures back home like this before, after all - the closest thing to a âdemonâ was the Risen, and well. They hadnât been the most friendly of sorts, so it was nice to meet somewhat friendly creatures.
It was super hard to not think of this creature as a living snowman, though, with how much they looked like one and all. The ice demon tapped a rounded hand in thought as the older mage stepped forth and explained matters further, before laughing.
<Hee hee ho - youâre both willing to pay off just for one thing? Thatâs funnyâŠyou might wanna be careful what demons you say that around, you know. I might be sensible enough to not take advantage of it because of the contract I signed, but not everyoneâs gonna be so nice, hee ho. Anyways, Iâve had some trouble at the shop late at night - some Pixies keep sneaking in when my back is turned and stealing stuff. If you guys can both come to the shop at night and get them to stop nicking stuffâŠIâll let you both pick out a heap of clothes each. So, whattaya say?>
Ricken paused to listen to the demonâs words, before saying: âWell, if someoneâs stealing stuffâŠto try and stop them is the right thing to do anyway, right? Iâd be happy to helpâŠuhmâŠdo you mind helping too? Pixies might be tricky to face all by myselfâŠâ
( The boy has turned to you, and is giving you a puppy-dog face that would probably make a stone fall over in adorable factorâŠwhat do you do? )
> Sure, Iâll help.
> No way, do it yourself.
> Suggest Ricken and the storekeeper work together.
These demons certainly were different than both darkspawn or those that lived back in the Fade. While still suspicious, Daylen had to work with a different approach. He was bound to make mistakes now and again in such a new environment. But life as a whole was a learning experience. Only through trial and error could they find the best way to cooperate.
At least the Jack Frost was somewhat familiar. After his intervention heâd been given a kind of warning. The Warden would take it but would show no signs of being intimidated. If an Archdemon couldnât defeat him, then he would never be defeated by a being that said hee-ho every minute.
âWe know that not all demons operate under the same rules. However, the universe being saved benefits all of us. Entering every interaction with open hostility does no one any favours.â
The job seemed easy enough. Neither of them knew the capabilities of these pixies, but at times of danger their Personas could be summoned. It helped that Daylen had prior experience with thievery. Being the Dark Wolf is one accomplishment heâll keep his mouth shut about.
Now the decision seemed obvious and- Maker what was he doing? With that puppy dog look Ricken really wasnât helping the not-a-child thing. Even the hardened Warden couldnât resist this. Although those choices didnât really suit a man of Thedas.
Very well then. Both of us will accept the job.
This is your problem. Weâll just have to take our business elsewhere.
(Persuade) You said demons canât be trusted. Weâll do it if you stay in the shop with us.
(Cunning) I donât know. All that hard work might require a little extra.
(Intimidate) Give us the robe or weâre going to melt you.
[Simply leave the Jack Frost be.]
There. Thatâs much better.
âA day dedicated to kissing. Well, better motive than any to just stay in the lodge today.â Could they really even afford silly moments like that given the circumstances?
âStill need to get around to summoning my Persona anyway. Helping others navigate the area seems to have taken up a lot of time.â
Magic Pals (Closed- Daylen Amell)
Ricken shivered a little bit more thanks to the cold, but thankfully he didnât lost sight of the taller mage thanks to his prior sensibility in holding his hand. Yeah, he knew it might seem a little weirdâŠmaybe a bit childish for someone to hold hands with an older person they just met, but that way he could rest assured that the taller mage wouldnât get too far ahead of him, and end up in them both getting lost and separated from one another. It was a little embarrassing, admittedly, butâŠthankfully, the older mage was nice about it so far.
âYeah, and you donât have to worry about paying for anything in the lodgeâŠI didnât know anything about this placeâs âcurrencyâ until you told me just noow. Though independence is really good too, because you could be a responsible grown-up and not have the hotel hold your hand the whole time. Iâd like to do that, and be taken seriously, but itâs a bit early to think about things like that, golly. Iâd like to get to know more friends here first, since the contractors said we should do that.â
Ah, that did explain Rickenâs trusting nature a bit: not only did he trust other because he was an innocent child, but also to make friends and form good âSocial Linksâ? Not a bad idea, really. There was the worrying chance of people taking advantage of such a pure motive, though. However, the small mage seemed oblivious to that, and smiled more.
He wished the nice mage would accept the compliment, though. BawâŠ
Though his thoughts were cut short at being led to the stall. Wow! The stuff here looked plenty warm enough, thoughâŠit was kinda funny an ice snowman was selling warm clothing. Wouldnât he get warm and melt? âNo, Iâve never talked to a snowman before! How are they moving like that? Itâs so cool!â
< Whatâsa matter? Never seen a Jack Frost before? Weâre an ice fairy typeâa demon - though Iâm not here to chat, hee ho. What do you wanna look at?>
Listening to the older Mageâs words, he spoke, though a little uncertain. âIâd really like some better robes to keep me warm - so what do you think is a fair trade for the robe on the right there?â
Looking to the older mage, he looked hopeful. Had he asked the demon politely enough, there? He hoped he did okay!
Trading with a demon presented a different dynamic from Thedas. Most people were easy enough to read. One simply had to listen or watch out for their body language. It was how Daylen had persuaded some merchants for cheaper deals in the past. Alternatively, those like Wade simply needed particular material to actually work rather than complain.
Quickly, the mage leaned into Rickenâs ear. Maybe flat out calling them things like snowmen should be avoided.
âThey arenât a snowman. While the demon is themed around ice and snow I doubt that theyâll melt. Asking just how they move might be considered rude as well. Though I do understand the curiosity.â After that long series of whispers Daylen moved back again, watching the deal start. It felt odd to not be doing this himself. Most attempts at bartering hadnât involved someone else handling the talking.
After the younger mage made their request, the Warden would step forward to provide some clarification to the Jack Frost.
âWe are aware that normally bartering in the Cataclysm involves some form of treasure. However, the pair of us are new arrivals and have no such items to out name. But we are prepared to offer other forms of payment such as potential labour or whatever you might require. If it helps him gain his robe, I offer to help pay it off as well.â
Magic Pals (Closed- Daylen Amell)
âOhâŠso you got offered a single wish in exchange for signing, too? Gosh, I wonder what kinda magic these people have, that they can promise so many potential wishes to so many people - come to think of it, they must be pretty strong to get two mages from different places and seal their powers, too. If theyâre that strongâŠI wonder why they even need our help?â The musing the older mage had put forth did make him pause and wonder about that thing. Though he also wondered about what the other mage wished for, he wouldnât ask THAT: if you told someone a wish, it wouldnât come true!
He didnât wanna be rude and prevent their wish from happening. âI guess it kinda is an inconvenience, butâŠbeing here and limited to just my tomes is not so bad. I mean, I got to meet you, and you seem really nice! So Iâm happy I did get to come here, even if I am really super cold right now.â Nodding in earnest momentum after saying this, it was evident the childâŠwas quite trusting of most new people.
âHey, come onâŠIâm just as capable to go out and help my friends head-on, honest. ThoughâŠI guess I dunno for sure yet because my Persona could be good at healing stuff instead but STILL. Iâm totally strong.â It doesnât help the situation when you pout like that, Ricken. Though, the topic about payment diverted his focus, thankfully.
âIâm sure they wouldnât ask anything too impossible, though, right? I meanâŠif they knew we were coming here, most of them will probably be friendly to us!â That said, as the taller mage began to move, he ran to his side and attempted to hold his hand. âThere! Now you being tall wonât mean you walk too far ahead of me. I hope I get taller someday but for now this will have to do. Also yeahâŠmaking a living is important, too. You gotta help yourself live ok before you help others.â
Well, that wasâŠactually very sensible a view. Seems like the child could have surprisingly mature views.
It didnât take Ricken long to catch up to him. Daylen wasnât intending to go faster than the other, but he did have an advantage of not hating the weather. Just walking in the snow without slipping felt easier to him. Both feet left prints as well; he wondered if shadows could track things like those.
What was odd is the younger mage complaining about his height. He might be somewhat tall, but being accompanied by a member of the Qun for so long made you feel smaller. Plus children following him as well isnât a common thing. A little reluctantly he holds their hand tightly. It just feels a little odd that if theyâve seen battle that this kind of behaviour might have been removed. Maker knows the Blight forced him into a lot of circumstances and ways to act he hadnât done before.
At least now they presented another piece of maturity. âLiving in the lodge for now at least gives us a little ground to work with. Even if some of us might move out before long.â Daylen was tempted himself. More space for his Mabari to run around in without worrying about others would be grand.
The earlier compliment had been heard but not responded to. The Commander wasnât very good at accepting them; always shifting tat someone else deserved them and not him.
After a few minutes of walking the two came across a stall with large and furry warm looking clothing displayed behind it. Most of it was too big for Ricken, but one or two options seemed to suit him fine. Daylenâs eyes shifted between some jackets on the left side and a robe on the right, although different to what the younger mage currently wore.
In charge of the stall was a Jack Frost. Made sense in a way since they could perfectly deal with the cold compared to other demons. Hopefully the creature wouldnât freeze any of the merchandise by mistake.
âIâm not sure if youâve talked to one of those before, so Iâll give some advice. They like mischief more than anything and might play with you a little. Stand your ground; you know what youâre here for after all. In case you need any help Iâll just be right here.â
The look of the city does his head in. He doesnât think itâs bad in any way, but besides the combination of old and new aesthetic, it also feels a little familiarânot because heâs been here before or anything like that, but because it has a vibe that feels similar enough to Japan that he doesnât think itâs completely foreign. It could be the youkai-like somethings that inhabit the city, though; residents that remind him of the ghost lights he used to watch or the demons whoâve left him with bruise-mottled sides and a cracked rib or three.
None of these demons or whatever-they-care-to-be-called have tried attacking him, however, and he finds he feels comfortable speaking with them the times that he has. Itâs the other people here, actually, who seem much more unfamiliar to him. After all, itâs a reminder he isnât in Japan anymore, that heâs nowhere near his home town and the house where his sister and dad live. Heâs fine with that. He doesnât feel homesick that easily, but Kazuma canât help but think about it.
It doesnât help that he was brought here when he had an entrance exam coming. Kazuma isnât the kind of young man whoâd hesitate to lend a hand, not even when university is at stake, but it is a concern that lurks in the back of his head and likes to remind him that itâs a thing every once in awhile. It especially likes to creep up on him in moments like these, when it feels like heâs sitting on his hands and waiting for something to happen.
Maybe all those thoughts and that distraction is why he almost shuts the door on someone, though he notices just in time and scrambles to catch it, holding it open so the man might enter the lodge behind him. âCrap, thatâs my bad. Sorry.â
The Cataclysm seems to blend together. That statement shouldnât make sense considering all the odd buildings. Most of them seem far more modern than anything back in Ferelden. Yet all are surrounded by the ice and snow which makes discerning between them difficult. At least demons are usually nearby and can be picked out from a crowd.
If only the weather didnât complicate mapping the area out. Daylen much preferred having an idea of where he was going or could be depending on the situation. Fighting is easier when knowing your environment after all. The Wardens promoted honour but he was the type to take shortcuts if needed.
Part of his mind is set on doing more, but the mage knows when to take a break. In case any shadows appeared exhausting himself would not do much good. Compared to others he had yet to unlock his Persona. So the necessary steps were taken to get back to the lodge. Vincent would be inside and hopefully theyâd take in the information too.
Upon approaching the lodge there is a man he doesnât recognise. New contract signers show up on a regular basis and many of them Daylen hasnât talked to yet. He would pay them no mind and continue if not for Kazuma being in their own world. Thankfully both parties have the reflexes to avoid this little accident.
âIf it isnât too much trouble, could I please ask you to keep a clearer head next time?â He says it out of concern. Normally the Commander would brush it off altogether but they are meant to be fighting shadows. Little slip ups like that could have deadly consequences later.
But despite the reprimand he enters the door after them. He does want to just go to his room, yet surely itâd be rude to just leave Kazuma after this?
âPerhaps it would be best to take some time for yourself later and think. Feels like something is on your mind anyway. If weâre all going to cooperate, then solving problems like that is for the benefit of everyone.â
