For 18 years, (since I was 6 months old) my family have spent almost every summer holiday in Ocean Grove along the Bellarine Peninsula. When I got into photography, time down at the beach began flying by- if I wasn’t in the water I was in the water with a camera - and whenever I left a camera behind the swell would be awfully photogenic. My weapon of choice in the waves has always been the hero 3+ Go Pro, however in my rush to pack for the weekend away I accidentally left it behind, deserted on my desk. I managed to forgive myself for this error because for the first time I was on holiday at the beach with a point and shoot film camera - Pentax ESPIO 80V. I had never shot waves or beachscapes on film before. Without a waterproof casing I utilised the 80mm to zoom as close in as possible. I really wanted to experiment with movement and scale, shooting mid-crash and close up on whitewash. I found the TMAX 100 BW negative film added a rawness to the flow of the waves... even if I originally thought I was shooting on colour film. Here are the results... Special thanks to Vanbar for processing!
