So I saw Darren Criss perform live last night in Hobart. It was such an amazing experience, especially since we got second row seats and we didn't have to travel to see him! He performed the songs from Masquerade, Foolish Thing, and I Still Think (which he seemed surprised that people had recordings of because he doesn't think he has any) of his original songs; Somewhere Only We Know, Cough Syrup, and Teenage Dream from Glee; Granger Danger and Goin' Back to Hogwarts with Joey and Lauren; a mashup of a song from How to Succeed and Midnight Radio from Hedwig; a couple of other covers, and finished with an encore of Beauty from Starship and The Day That The Dance Is Over.
I think the highlight for me (of a night of highlights) was The Day That The Dance Is Over. He mentioned that he wrote it with his brother, and it definitely felt like a tribute to him. The first half of the song he sang without microphones or speakers, just his voice and guitar, letting the natural acoustics of the theatre carry the music. At the line 'but I believe there is music in the silence', he motioned to the audience to stay quiet and there was a beautiful time of complete silence as he moved to the piano to finish the song. I'd be willing to bet that everyone was at least teary by the end of the song. I'm so glad that I had a chance to see him perform.
(Edit: Also, here's the recordings I took of Teenage Dream and Cough Syrup)
Well, not an ideal end to the trip to have our flight back from London cancelled. They found a mechanical fault with the plane, spent about an hour trying to fix it, but now they’ve completely cancelled it. They’re trying to figure out flights for everyone but at least Heathrow airport isn’t the worst place to be stranded for now.
Update: we have a flight in 6 hours, with a stopover rather than direct to Perth, and a £12 voucher each for food at the airport that no one seems to know where we can use. And then landing at 1:30am, where we most likely won’t be able to check in to our accommodation that late.

I guess you can say we’ve seen Big Ben XD
Our first London theatre experience!
!!!
We’ve arrived in London! I’m tired and I have no idea what day and time it is anymore but we’re here!
Just got back from seeing Cursed Child part 2. It was truly amazing. I already want to see it again.
About to see Cursed Child (part 1)! So excited!
So I’m rereading Squire by Tamora Pierce and I just got to the part where Kel shows Raoul her expensive ass swords and explains about her mysterious benefactor. For the first time it occurs to me that there’s no way Raoul doesn’t immediately know it’s Alanna. He’s not stupid. He’s been her friend since they were pages. It’s implied that he discussed taking Kel as his squire with her by the fact that Alanna passes on that Kel is “taken care of” to Neal when she’s offering to take Neal as her squire. There’s no way that when Raoul hears somebody has been anonymously showering Kel with incredibly thoughtful and costly gifts he doesn’t immediately think of the scary redhead who’s been pissed off for years at being forbidden from openly helping Kel by the fucking patriarchy and wouldn’t know how to do things by halves if the Goddess herself begged her to be subtle.
But I don’t think he knew about the gifts ahead of time. He put two and two together the moment Kel told him about her benefactor, but it’s not like Alanna had reason to randomly keep him informed about the extravagant way she’s been secretly making up for being barred from Kel’s presence. In my head Raoul is dying inside, barely keeping his realization from Kel, and then next time he meets up with Alanna away from Kel’s POV…
Raoul: “You gave her weapons from Raven Armory?!”
Alanna: “What, they make good swords.”
Raoul: “Yeah and they’re priced to match!”
Alanna: “With all the shit Wyldon was putting her through she deserved a nice sword.”
Raoul: “There’s nice and then there’s RAVEN FUCKING ARMORY nice. Don’t you have kids and an entire holding to feed?”
Alanna: “Look I tried to get her an ancient magical relic from a long dead civilization of immortals like I had at her age, but it turns out those are hard to come by.”

@ephemeraltea :D you can’t tell me Thayet didn’t cry with laughter at the most expensively petty and altruistic spite prank Alanna has ever played on Jon.
I mean “FINE I won’t TALK to her if you order me not to, like a twat, but since you INSIST on being a twat ONE I am going to equip her as well as I would my own child and TWO I am not going to talk to you for the next four years. BECAUSE YOU’RE A TWAT, JON.”
