“…so this is where they all went.”
(OOC under cut)
Your turn, madam! Thoughts on the other Slayers? Surprised you went this long without a classic question.
“Hm? I suppose i could answer this, if it’s ‘classic’.”
“Ironclad is…troubling. He’s gotten better, but he still loses himself sometimes. That DEMON had best watch himself.”
“Silent acts like a fearsome predator, but I can tell her pain. I suspect she has a poor home life.”
“Defect is just a sweetheart! It’s got as many problems as the rest of us, but it’s still so sweet.”
“Regent is…annoying. I’ve never liked nobility, and he is no exception.”
“Necrobinder…reminds me far too much of the Ironclad when we ascended to slay the heart. Too rage filled. Too reckless. Poor child…”
(I’m too tired to do the fan slayers rn.)
So uh, we know the eye on your staff can see for you, but how does that work?
“It acts as a sort of proxy for my natural sight. The closest thing I could equate it to is a camera.”
A LOT silent
“Silent…what are those veins on your arm?”
I know we barely have anything on the Watcher and her lore/characterization since she’s not in STS2 but I imagine between all the characters she’s the most at peace with her emotions
Her stance-switching is fully under her control and she is very emotionless most of the time (the Sensory Stone event recalls a memory she has where she’s not bothered at all by a fight involving a dead carcass). As a monk from an ascetic order, she has learned to suppress her emotions and is able to channel what she feels into the divine stances, which she uses to her advantage in battle.
I feel like if the Watcher was a part of the STS2 group, she’d definitely be the most level-headed and mature out of everyone. She can see things rationally and would probably be the mediator between most conflicts in the group (especially between Necrobinder and Regent who I imagine would tend to clash heads a lot over what would be best to do). In my headcanon, before Watcher joins, Defect tries to mediate in conflicts as it hates to see everyone fighting, but can only do so much as it is a robot that doesn’t fully understand human(oid) nature and communicates frequently through beeps. Watcher is rather quiet most of the time but also knows how to use her words succinctly and effectively, so she’s able to quickly resolve conflicts and offer her wisdom. She also has a naturally soothing nature that draws the other characters in. She’s very empathetic and observant and has a lot of insight into the other characters, being able to somewhat sense their thoughts. She doesn’t express herself emotionally and isn’t particularly warm, but she’s also not a cold person either.
Anyway here’s my headcanon on her general relationship with the other characters (from a canon perspective):
The Ironclad — he looks strong and acts strong on the outside, and seems relatively emotionless and cold. However, she can sense his endless fear and immense guilt about his past actions eating him from the inside out along with the foreign presence that is Vakuu’s demonic aura controlling him and his thoughts a lot of the time. (She doesn’t know it’s Vakuu right away, but when she encounters Vakuu herself alongside Ironclad, she knows.) She can sense the human still inside him, wanting to come out and wanting to regain full control of his mind and his autonomy. She wishes there was a way that she could help soothe him and help him to forgive himself and his past wrongdoings. Ironclad respects her but both he and Vakuu (when Vakuu is in control) are utterly creeped out by how perceptive she is.
The Silent — Silent wants to think she’s as good at hiding her emotions as she is at physically hiding from enemies and engaging in petty thievery, but Watcher can see right through her and feel the crippling insecurity, self-hatred, and intense emotions that she harbors inside. She may be quiet but her mind is very loud and Watcher can feel it. Watcher doesn’t know about her sisters, but she does sense her trauma and pain from growing up in their care, her desire to earn someone else’s approval, the feeling that she’s running out of time (due to her terminal Blight sickness), and a desire to prove herself before it’s too late. I think Silent is mildly intimidated by her and though she respects her as an ally, seeing how powerful Watcher is in battle especially with her stance-switching triggers her insecurities about her own fighting ability.
The Defect — Watcher is the type to only fight when it is necessary just like the construct, so she understands its hesitation towards killing its creator the Architect even if it (reluctantly) agrees that it might be for the best. She isn’t as affected emotionally by death/destruction as the construct (who values life and doesn’t enjoy killing or destroying things), and she’s not quite as pacifist, but she understands its desire for mediation and for everyone to get along. Defect greatly appreciates Watcher’s insights on human nature and loves learning from her.
The Regent — the Prince of Starris is thoroughly impressed by her wisdom and sees her as a worthy intellectual equal/rival. She intimidates and challenges him but in a good way and it only makes him want to read and learn more about various topics so he can have a leg up on her when they debate. She is not annoyed with or bothered by him or his antics like the other characters — she is in fact the most patient out of all of them — and is very happy to share her knowledge with him, especially regarding the universe, the cosmos, and the military history of various planets/civilizations. They both really enjoy having intellectual conversations with each other and having respectful, philosophical debates.
The Necrobinder — the lich looks up to her a lot and thinks she’s so cool. She likes venting to her about her own grief and other issues that she’s not willing to open about to the others and finds her to be an incredibly trustworthy, reliable confidant. Watcher helps her see that sometimes she isn’t the most level-headed and while Necro is still very focused and dead set on her quest for vengeance, talking to Watcher brings her back to earth. Watcher makes her realize a bit more that being in a constant state of anger isn’t always good for her and that it’s necessary to relax every once in a while so she can remain dedicated to her goal. From Watcher’s perspective, she’s fascinated by Necro and the mystery of the Forbidden Grimoire she’s bound to, and wants to help the lich find out who wrote the book/why it caused her skin and organs to disintegrate.
You had best BELIEVE I’m using this as more Mama Watcher propaganda
Do you like tea? Apparently tea is actually good for plants, or so I heard.
Tea is... n-nice. A-As long as it's completely cooled down.
When she was around, s-sometimes we would have tea. I-I really like the first steep, usually people would um, would pour it away, but... it's the l-least acidic steep.
The steeped tea leaves c-can be used as food for me, too.
“I personally enjoy the first steep as well.”
Watcher seemingly materializes out of nowhere.
W-Watcher...? You... you have returned...?
*The Dryad's visible eye widens at the sight of the blind ascetic. Her lips part again, but no words come out of them. She stays frozen for a while, not even blinking.*
*Finally, she manages to speak again, softer now.*
I'm... I'm glad you're back. Really.
The Watcher smiles under her face cloth, as the eye on her staff darts over Dryad.
“It’s good to be back. You look…different.”
*The Dryad nods, her lips curling up shyly at the observation.*
Y-Yeah. And um... I'm better now. Not... d-dying anymore.
*She raises her hand to use her powers. Once dried and browned branches, leaves and thorns, the plants she conjured now look more alive. They still look a bit wilted, but much better than before.*
*Her smile widens a bit more when she turns her gaze back to the Watcher.*
It's been... hundreds of years, has it not? H-How... have you been faring?
“I’ve been…alright. I’ve been talking with this young one, perhaps you know them? I believe their name is Profane.”
Ah, I-I think I do know them. They are... the one usually seen with the Ironclad, am I correct?
I, um... have not spoken to them yet, though... but j-judging from your tome, they are a pleasant company, are they not?
“Oh they are. A lovely child.”
T-That's... really nice.
*The Dryad pauses, then looks down. After a while of fidgeting with her fingers, she turns to face the Watcher again, a hopeful look on her face.*
A-Anyway... i-if it doesn't trouble you... w-would you, um, would you... c-care for tea? S-Some time? Like... Like the old days.
“Of course dear.”
Watcher says “dear” like a mother with her child.
“Defect…you’ve gotten….big.”
@watcheraskblogsts
"!!!" The Defect lights up a little at the sight of an old friend, literally and figuratively. It whirs and beeps excitedly, energy clouds in its core bouncing around with a bit more panache. It scratches the back of its head a little sheepishly, having the height difference pointed out. The size difference had taken a little to get used to...
The blind ascetic chuckles, giving Defect head pats.
“Yet still adorable as ever.”
“Merchant.”
@watcheraskblogsts
Oh, the listening one! It's been, what, roughly a millenia give or take? How've you been? Honestly didn't expect you to come back considering you'd finished your mission, but it's not unexpected. Have you seen your fellow Slayers recently? There's quite more of you this time around, and it's been lovely seeing all these new people.
*They ramble for some time before stopping themself.*
Right, right, business! I've been saving some of your specialty stuff, although perhaps Darv might be a better bet to reclaim some of that, so take a look around!
“Not all of them. And yes, I have finished my original mission. But with the reopening…”
*They nod along.*
Of course. Business is business, I suppose, but to think the Spire would reopen! Never in my life would I have expected something like that to happen! I presume you're back for something relating to the Spire once more?
“My reasons are my own.”
“Merchant.”

I heard that there is someone who I could call my fellow. I didn't realize that there's another Blind ascender here. Pleasure to meet you, Watcher. Mind sharing your thoughts on the Ancients, since their appearence seems new to you? @ask-the-servant
“Ah, a fellow blind one. A pleasure.”
“As for my thoughts on the ancients, they’re an odd presence, but not entirely unwelcome.”
“Excluding that DEMON of course.”
“So you’re one of these ‘ancients’. I may be blind, but even I can feel your beauty.”
@watcheraskblogsts
"Well, aren't you a new sight to behold. Thank you very much my dear, please do make yourself comfortable."
The blind ascetic bows, and curls up against one of the walls, her staff eye scanning the room.
“Much appreciated.”

She smiles, ruffling the child’s hair under their hood.
“Indeed I am child.”
