āWe don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?ā ā Dead Poets Society
Like he died before he even got to go on the mission, he never even made it to the launch pad, and yet his preferred method of ending the mission is exactly was what allowed Rocky and Grace to finish it..
Maybe there would have been some nitrogen aboard anyway or they could have science-d some up, but having several tanks there and ready for them to breed nitrogen resistant taumeoba all because of DuBois will never not make me want to sob
(not to mention having that quantity aboard allowed Grace to rid the ship of the leak easily without too much stress of resource management, he had the gas to spare and flood the ship with)
Anyway there is so much tragedy in the Hail Mary crew that didnāt make it, but something about them haunting the narrative and being a part of the completed mission in the end never fails to make me feel genuinely sick
Their sacrifices would have meant something anyway, their bravery and willingness to die to save earth can never be forgotten, but the tragedy of them never getting to make the mission feels so wrong, and yet, they were there the whole time, in the extra coma slurry that kept Grace alive, in the nitrogen that created a life form that would save two worlds, Project Hail Mary crew I love you, you did not die for nothing
Rocking back and forth. Stratt is not cruel. Grace is not innocent. Rocky is not naive. Every member of the crew was selected for their skill. Please. Allow these multi-faceted characters their facets. Allow Stratt her coldness and utalitarianism while acknowledging that she only did what she had to and she never took any joy in it, that she was a fundamentally kind person who was driven to awful extremes by her love for the world and humanity. Allow Grace his kindness and trauma without ignoring the selfishness and fear that fueled his choice. Allow Rocky his blind spots and learning curve without disregarding his intelligence and adaptability. Allow Yao, Ilyukhina, Dubois, and Shapiro their unique personalities and quirks without neglecting that they were the astronauts chosen to savr the entire world, that they were captains and engineers and scientists so prolific they were entrusted by Eva Stratt with the fate of humanity. Please. I beg.
im a big 'grace understands stratt but never forgives her' fan. he knows why she did it. he knows she didnt have any other choice, that she had to do, that she was also in a horrible position she didnt want to be in. He understands why she had to do it! He understands her!!!
But he can't forgive her. he'd never forgive her for it.
I donāt think it should be on Nico to make Thomas realize his worth or anything like that, but damn do I want to see a moment where theyāre in some situation where Thomas is being his overly-selfless self again which prompts Nico to askĀ āwhat about you?ā and Thomas responding withĀ āwhat about me?ā because he doesnāt think that he matters.
i was looking at something on my dadās computer to help him pick a subclass for dnd and he has a fucking folder in his bookmarks for ai art generator stuff. what the fuck.
