Does anyone have any spells to get someone to contact you???? please and thanks
I don’t know who needs to hear this but
Do NOT cast spells for positive effects that involve:
Burning a picture of yourself*
Burning a piece of paper that anywhere contains your name*
Burning a piece of hair or other taglock*
*Unless you really know what you’re doing
I don’t know how sigil culture got people to think that burning anything = sending it off for spirits, but NO. Across pretty much every magical practice, burning involving a person = destruction. Burning as a means of generically sending things off is mainly used for offerings.
On a similar vein, do not cast spells for positive effects that involve taking a human figure and ripping up, burning, submerging in soil or water, or doing anything else to that figure that would maim or kill a real human. (unless you really know what you’re doing)
Remember the Law of Similarity. Destruction of an image = destruction of the thing itself.
Geomancy 101
Geomancy, in the western magical tradition, used to have the same positive reputation as astrology, and was more widely practiced. It is easier to learn than Tarot (I think), and benefits from being an Earth-based magic that probably came to Western Europe from Western Africa by way of the Muslim conquerors of Spain. It’s a fairly sophisticated system, and it does take some effort to learn.
Below the cut, a fairly complete ceremonialmagic101 introduction to the art of Geomancy, a divination system for beginning magicians.

Resources
Some good resources for learning geomancy today are:
Earth Magic, Earth Divination (powell’s | amazon)
The Art and Practice of Geomancy (powell’s | amazon)
Geomancy for beginners (powell’s | amazon)
The Digital Ambler’s writings on geomancy
Christopher Warnock’s resources on astrological geomancy
ABWatt’s geomancy posters on flickr and quatrains on geomancy and a poster he did for DOGD on the signs of geomancy (as explained in John Michael Greer’s book, The Celtic Golden Dawn)
How to Learn Geomancy:
At its heart, Geomancy is a system of divination that relies upon binary mathematics. Each of the sixteen characters of geomancy is composed of four rows of symbols, and each of those rows either has a pair of dots (passive) or a single dot (active). These four rows are associated with Fire, Air, Water and Earth, in order from top to bottom.
The first thing to do is to learn the names of the Geomantic Characters, and the dot-patterns associated with them. Each character works somewhat like a Tarot card, in that it is a key to a complete and complex set of meanings and associations which may be used to construct a divination sequence. ABWatt’s poem, Quatrains on Geomancy, serves as a brief guide to some of these meanings; The Digital Ambler (in the reference section above) has composed much longer briefs on each of the geomantic characters, as well. The Latin names of the signs are commonly used in English-speaking countries, due to their use in the Golden Dawn’s private papers, and their regular reappearance in this form. The following notes are shorthand conceptions of each character; but the true magician will study each character in greater depth — first by reading about them, and then by meditating on the shape of each figure and its connected meaning.
Puer — Boy. Aggressive, assertive, masculine action; risky behavior and cockiness.
Amissio — Loss. A loss of heart or a loss of money; could be good or bad, depending on circumstances.
Albus — White. Open to intellectual and spiritual pursuits, but rather forgetful of the belly and sexuality.
Populus — People / Crowd. Lost in the great mass of people. Diffusion of effort and intention. Following the mob.
Fortuna Major — Greater Fortune. Success by your own effort.
Rubeus — Red. Body and Bodaciousness. Wine, Sex, Drugs and rock and roll. Out on the town, but risk-taking and potential for mischief and bloodshed.
Puella — Girl. Beauty, compassion, feminine receptivity, open to many circumstances.
Acquisitio — Acquisition, Gain. Increase of wealth in the purse but lacking compassion or generosity. End of love in some circumstances.
Conjunctio — Crossroads. Choice, and choosing. The decision is in your hands, but indecision may make make things harder. Choose.
Tristitia — Sorrow. Sadness and trouble and difficulty. Sometimes literally downward movement. illness, sickness and doom.
Laetitia — Happiness. Joy, ecstasy, happiness, sometimes literally upward movement.
Carcer — Prison. Limitation and boundaries. Edges. Acceptance of present circumstances. Locked in.
Cauda Draconis — Dragon’s Tail. Watch out for endings! End of cycles, risk of getting whacked on the way out! The long route home.
Caput Draconis — Dragon’s Head. Blessings at the Beginning. Starting something new, a new cycle, set out on an adventure.
Fortuna Minor — Lesser Fortune. Lucky circumstances that have nothing to do with you. Swiftly passing opportunity.
Via — Road. Active effort, driving along the path, driven by great powers toward destiny — but not a lot of choices ahead; stick to the path you’re on.
Once again, these meanings are shorthand to get the newcomer started. They are not an adequate substitute for research, reading, and deliberate meditation on the subject.
How to Generate a Geomantic Figure
The second thing to learn how to do is to generate a Geomantic Character.
The process for making a geomantic figure is described in the following image (JPEG), which lays out the core process: use a pen on paper (or a stick in the dirt — the original geomantic system!) to draw a series of random marks in four distinct rows. Count the number of marks in each row to determine if there are and odd or even number of dots. Odd numbers get translated to a single dot; even numbers become a double dot.
Once you have become familiar with this process, one can use a series of variations: single and double dots drilled or poked into the six sides of pencils, for example, or wooden sticks called Druid Wands with a single dot one one side and double dots on the other; dice in the colors of the Four Elements; and other methods can be used as well. Wherever possible, though, care should be taken that the order of lines should not be confused — always fire to earth in methods that rely on generating one row at a time; and using tools distinctive by color or by shape (for example, polyhedral dice, or four colored Druid wands) when generating all four lines of a figure at once.
Practicing with Three Characters
Once you understand how to generate a Geomantic Character, and can recognize each character on sight with some degree of precision, you can begin learning to memorize the meanings of each character. You can also begin practicing with three Geomantic Characters at once.
Generating Four Daughters by Division
Once the process of Combination is mastered, and the practitioner has gained some skill at interpreting a triad of Geomantic Characters together, the practitioner may advance to generating characters by Division. Division uses four characters, and then combines the four characters’ elemental lines each to form a new character. These four new characters are called the Four Daughters.
The process of generating figures by Division is only used in the generation of daughters from the mothers, but it is a critical part of the process of generating the shield chart. Without this “sidwise-reading” of the characters, the process of generating new figures tends to result in the gradually an increasing number of passive/even figures, and the appearance and reappearance of Populus — the crowd.
The student of geomancy should practice the technique of figure-generation by division a number of times to be sure that it comes easily and naturally.
The Shield Chart
By this time, the student of geomancy should be able to do the following:
Generate a Geomantic Character
Recognize the resulting Geomantic Character as one of the sixteen such characters.
Give a brief explanation of its meaning
Generate two Geomantic Characters, and make from them a third by Combination.
Explain the resulting triad in relation to a question, usually “what will I encounter today?” although other questions may be answered this way (although not in much detail).
Generate a set of Four Mothers, and by Division generate a set of Four Daughters.
It is at this point that these skills come together in the Shield Chart, one of the key layouts or spreads used in Geomancy.
While specific meanings are assigned to given Mothers, Daughters and Nieces to generate a more useful and specific divination, for the moment the student of geomancy should practice generating shield charts, and reading the advice of the Judge, the Left Witness and the Right Witness. The Right Witness is generally understood to represent either the past, or the personal state of the Querent (the person asking the question, although not necessarily the geomancer). The Left Witness is generally understood to represent either the past, or the overall state of the world, at the time of the asking of the question. The Judge is understood to be the overall outcome of the question.
The serious student of geomancy will ask the same question for a period of four to six months, typically “What will I encounter today?” and use the Judge and Witnesses to form an overall picture of the day — and then use the actual events of the day to confirm or deny the effectiveness of the reading overall.
Ceremonialmagic101 will likely return to this topic of geomancy at some point, but your interest and feedback on the subject is appreciated. In the meantime, serious students are directed to practice for a period of time, and consult one of the useful resources at the top of this entry for further study and research.

Water in Folklore and Magic
Where the blood or head fell from a saint or martyr that had been beheaded, a spring of water would erupt that could heal those who washed in its waters.
But if you didn’t have one handy, another powerful fix for all your ills was that of water collected from a south running stream. To heal almost any ill, Scottish superstition instructs us to collect this south running water. For best effect, this should be done in total silence - no words must be spoken going to and from the stream. At the well or stream, the patient may wash with the waters or the healer may collect some for the patient; making sure to hold the filled vessel so that the mouth points to the north when returning from the river.
This act of going forth in silence to a sacred stream or pool was in itself an important step in the working.
Some curative tales tell of the collected water and some salt being thrown about the bed of the sick patient. Others tell of the patient being washed in the water while prayers are said, afterwards the water and an article of the patient’s clothing should be burned.
On special nights, such as May-Eve, water can be collected from a south running stream for use as an amulet. Other days, like the first Sunday in August, it was customary to drive the cattle into a pool or river for the health and protection of the animals.
Scottish and Irish folklore also places importance upon the trees that grow near holy wells and streams. The Hawthorn growing over a holy well is used for clouties - votive rags dipped in the waters and tied to the branches to heal the ailment for which they are named. However, removing a cloutie from the site would transfer the illness to the person who had removed the rag.
A yew tree growing near a well could cure ills but care had to be taken that the tree always remain preserved - if it were cut down, the healing properties would leave the well.
Also, if a murder occurred at the site of a holy well, it lost all curative powers. From Welsh folklore we can find stories of the fair folk punishing humans who forgot to close or cover a sacred well after using it - even going so far as to turn the culprit into a swan or forcing them to haunt the site, lamenting their mistake in the afterlife.
Many healing wells were best visited before sunrise on Beltane. Jonet Boyman was said to have worked magic at an “eldritch well”, calling up an evil blast and evoking King Arthur and Queen Elspeth for instruction on healing her patient.
Because they are liminal spaces, certain waters may be guarded - at holy sites, by saints or angels. Others may be watched over by the fair folk, some variants of The Ballad of Tam Lin mention him being at a well when Janet arrives in Carterhaugh and later casts him into a well to turn him into a human man once more. Witches were even said to make their homes near holy wells and though dangerous spirits such as kelpies liked to make fresh water their home, it was common belief that a person could leap across a south running stream to escape evil fairies that may be pursuing them.
Gold and silver could be offered up to the waters for cures and protection and blessings. Warts could be charmed by being stuck with a metal pin, the pin then being cast into the waters. Sacred waters could also remove the influence of witchcraft, they could grant sight, and divine the future. Water, salt, and silver were used in many different rites for blessing, healing, protection, and luck.
“Salt and water as a drink is at all times considered a potent charm against evil, if properly prepared by a fairy doctor and the magic words said over it.”
-Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms, and Superstitions of Ireland
A few of my favorites:
“A woman suspected of infecting a child, having arrived on summons, she desired ‘a cap of water, with ane knyf, and when scho gat it, she movit the knyf in the water, and spat in the capt, and gantit over it, and said,
The dead vpraise To the credell scho gat To mend the bairne That bitten was In the name of the Father, the Sone, and the Haillie Gaist.”
And commandit the water to be cassing out.’ The child recovered.”
-From The Darker Superstitions of Scotland
“All the spells worked on November Eve are performed in the name of the devil, who is then forced to reveal the future fate of the questioner. The most usual spell is to wash a garment in a running brook, then hang it on a thorn bush, and wait to see the apparition of the lover, who will come to turn it.”
-From Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms, and Superstitions of Ireland
The following charms are from the Carmina Gadelica, the first for removing afflictions from animals and the second for protection from the evil eye:
Incantation of the Red Water
In making the incantation of the red water, the exorcist forms her two palms into a basin. She places this basin under the urine of the cow or other animal affected, and throws the urine into water, preferably running water, to carry away the demon of the complaint. Having washer hands in clean cold water, the woman forms them into a trumpet. She then faces the rising sun, and intones the incantation through the trumpet as loudly as she can:
In the name of the Father of love, In the name of the Son of sorrow, In the name of the Sacred Spirit. Amen.
Great wave, red wave, Strength of sea, strength of ocean, The nine wells of Mac-Lir, Help on thee to pour, Put stop to thy blood, Put flood to thy urine. [The name.]
Thwarting the Evil Eye
This formula for removing the effects of the evil eye is handed down from male to female, from female to male, and is efficacious only when thus transmitted. Before pronouncing it over the particular case of sickness, the operator proceeds to a stream, where the living and the dead alike pass, and lifts water, in name of the Holy Trinity, into a wooden ladle. In no case is the ladle of metal. On returning, a wife’s gold ring, a piece of gold, of silver, and of copper, are put in the ladle. The sign of the holy cross is then made, and this rhyme is repeated in a slow recitative manner–the name of the person or animal under treatment being mentioned towards the end. In the case of an animal a woollen thread, generally of the natural colour of the sheep, is tied round the tail. The consecrated water is then given as a draught, and sprinkled over the head and backbone. In the case of a cow the horns and the space between the horns are carefully anointed.
The remnant of the water, no drop of which must have reached the ground previously, is poured over a corner stone, threshold flag, or other immovable stone or rock, which is said to split if the sickness be severe. Experts profess to distinguish whether it be a man or a woman who has laid the evil eye:–if a man, the copper adheres to the bottom of the upturned ladle, significant of the ‘iomadh car,’ many turns in a man’s dark wily heart; if a woman, only the silver and gold adhere, the heart of a woman being to that of man–not in this case, ‘as moonlight unto sunlight and as water unto wine’–but as gold and silver to copper and brass. Old women in the Highlands say that if men’s hearts were laid bare they would be found to contain many more twists and turns and wiles than those of women.
Who shall thwart the evil eye? I shall thwart it, methinks, In name of the King of life. Three seven commands so potent, Spake Christ in the door of the city; Pater Mary one, Pater King two, Pater Mary three, Pater King four, Pater Mary five, Pater King six, Pater Mary seven; Seven pater Maries will thwart The evil eye, Whether it be on man or on beast, On horse or on cow; Be thou in thy full health this night, [The name] In name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Apparently it’s just a Dad Thing™️ to call people kids and kiddos.
I was talking with my dad and he was describing this one guy at work, who wants to be a foreman, as a kid. And I’m mentally picturing some guy in his twenties. Nope, the employee/co-worker my dad’s been describing as a kid is 45. My dad will be 50 in July. Dude’s an adult. Like middle age. But here my dad is calling him a kid because his guy wants to become a foreman and my dad is more experienced in his job than this dude. Despite them being basically the same age.
Then all I could think of was Patton. And I finally understood why he calls everyone Kiddo.
Are ya ready kids?

You know what I hate?
People are so ready to reblog those short little posts about something like spell pouches that don’t even explain anything and literally just list shit to put in some velvet bag and put in your pocket. I’ve literally done that before as a test and:
1,228 notes for that. I put next to zero effort into that. And it got 1,228 notes. Meanwhile, when I actually put effort into making informational posts, I get 200 at most?
I know this has been addressed so many times in this witchblr community, but it’s starting to get tiring. It’s been part of the reason I had little motivation to make original posts. No one’s going to pay attention to them anyway.
This is honestly probably a huge part of why there’s also so much misinformation on tumblr about witchcraft. No one spreads the detailed posts! People spread the posts with minimal detail, which either don’t explain anything accurately enough or don’t explain it correctly, and people jump on to reblog it. But then why they see a lengthy, detailed post, they either complain that it’s too long and it should have a read more (but then people never click the read more so what’s the point) or they just flat out ignore it.
Cmon y’all. You’re here to learn, right? Start reading!
