the first thing she notices when she wakes up is that the air around her is colder than usual. granted, it the middle of january but lately, with the exception of the night they had just a few hours before, it’s been warmer than usual. normally she’d just gone back to bed, but this cold is bothering. she sits on the bed and bites her lips to try and stop her teeth from chattering - a useless move - so the girl just pulls her covers around he a little tighter. was she coming down with a fever? she checks by touching her own forehead and yelps once with the surprise feeling of her own freezing cold touch. anna’s eyes widen. what--- what is that? she looks at her own hands, astonished. she tries to touch her bed, with just a finger, and small snowflakes appear on her, now very cold sheets. quickly jumping out of bed, the girl stumbles, gasping in shock, and ends up hitting her back against the wall -- suddenly the wall is also frozen. what on earth is happening? as she feels her heart pounding heavily in her chest, the temperature drops. snowflakes accumulate by the surfaces. why is this happening? she wonders if this is what elsa had to deal with for so long. a pang of guilty brings more snow to accumulate. tears pool up in her eyes -- rationally she knows she should try and be calm, it’s not hard to see her own fear is making things worse, but she also feels as if she lost all control of her emotions. a tear roll down her face. and another. she doesn’t want to cry, but it just seems inevitable. she needs help.
anna’s gaze travel to the nightstand, where her cellphone is and before she can think, she dials a number she knows all too well and waits for the familiar voice to speak. “ elsa. ” her voice is small, barely heard between sobs and shivers. “ elsa, i--- ” anna suddenly stops. she can’t say anything. it feels wrong to ask her to come. what if she hurts her sister? she feels the coldness in her ear and before she can say anything else, the device breaks in her hand and anna can’t help but stare in disbelief. ‘maybe--- it’s for the best’ she thinks, pulling the sheets tighter around herself as she crawls back to her cold bed. ‘she shouldn’t see you like this. it’s not fair to her’ anna closes her eyes, trying to ignore the world around her, to ignore everything she’s so afraid of. ‘it’s for the best’
