Rouge are an all female London based band, usually working in a foursome. If I'm completely honest a lot of their stuff is not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, I love the gritty blues vibe, but it can feel a little 'Evanescence' at times. However, this cover of Limit To Your Love by James Blake stands to prove me wrong.
After going through their music, it's clear these girls have a strong talent and they passionately inject everything they do with their own style, which is to be highly respected. There is no mistaking the strength of this band musically, but personally, as a band they felt a little cold in their produced songs. They may well be down to the commercialisation of their music videos and so that may not be a totally fair comment, however with this rendition of James Blake, i feel more connected to the band and i can see how much they really love what they are doing.
In this song the usual vocalist switches to a chilled chord medley guitar part and instead, we hear an unmistakably unique, rich voice take over and it just makes it for me. The harmony complement the vocalist instead of battling against her, which is painfully often in many collaborative vocal girl bands. The band seem more connected to one another than usual, adding to the personal twist they apply to the song. It's things like this that get musicians to where they want to be.
A band to watch I think, especially if we hear more from the vocalist in this song.
