THE GARDEN
“I don’t know why you would force yourself to grow up.”
Have you ever seen an apple walking around ?”Â

AMELIA MAD
SHE LOVES THRIFTING, SHE LOVES ART, SHE LOVES A COOL BREEZE, AND SHE MAKES YOUTUBE VIDEOS. SHE IS A FEMINIST, SHE OWNS A VINYL COLLECTION, AND FILMED A POET/LOOKBOOK EXPRESSING HER LOVE FOR DENIM.Â
Hello Amelia. How are you doing ?
I'm fine. Ready for summer to start.Â
Could you introduice yourself a little bit ?
You can call me A.M.. I like thrifted and vintage clothes, listening to music, watching movies, writing poetry and comedy sketches, eating a lot, going on tumblr, feminism/womanism, and sleeping in. I've read a lot of blogs since middle school (The Style Rookie and Hipster Musings were my favorites) Â and I Â created my own blog "Style Riot" Â few years ago. I also created a Youtube Channel about a year ago where I post my own videos.
Indeed, I heard you were a youtuber. Why are you making videos ?Â
I love watching youtube videos. I love comedy sketches, deep think pieces, and fashion/style lookbooks and hauls. I started my channel because I was inspired by other youtubers like Rian Phin, Dietblond,Lauren Rose, Smoothiefreak, Chescaleigh, Mitchell Davis, Coffey Chat, and Daily Grace. I also really wanted a hobby and always wanted to do something related with filming. And to semi quote Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, I was tired of being a voyeur and wanted to create some content of my own to show the world. I felt like making videos and putting myself out there on the internet would a good way of meeting people and connecting with others while simutaneously expressing myself.
Don't you think there's something much deeper than simply showing your outfit ?
I feel that sometimes an outfit can just be something you throw on. It can also tell how someone is feeling, what that person was influenced by, and just everything the person likes or how they want to be perceived by others. Outfits can tell stories I suppose. I love how certain designers have specific themes and influences each season. Like how the sisters behind Rodarte can be influenced by their childhood home one season and then Star Wars for another. Style has no limits since everything can inspire it. It's really fun to make outfits inspired by anything in life whether it's nature or a movie. It creates a strong connection between the wearer of the outfit and the world in a fun way.
What is your relationship with fashion ?
I've been obsessed with fashion/style for a long time. I have a mother who is really into wearing extravagant outfits for parties and I'd always watch her prepare for them and see what she wore  When I was young I'd play with dolls and make little outfits for them out of scraps of cloth. In middle school I started to read lots of fashion blogs and I read a ton of magazines (Nylon, Teen Vogue, Vogue Italia, etc). I'm very inspired by music and the different outfits musicians like to wear.Certain movies, actors and actresses also inspire me. I'm also obsessed with outfits from different eras- anything from 60's to early 2000's is great for outfit inspiration. When I have time I like to look at runway shows onstyle.com.
What would be a perfect day according to you ?
A warm spring day, slightly overcast, and with a cool breeze. One with no classes so that I can spend my time surfing the web, listening to music, and writing.
I remember this conversation we had about the suburbs. I think we have similar thoughts about them.
There's something both great and awful about the suburbs in my opinion. The good: there's something beautiful about seeing rows of houses and lawns  that make up the neighborhoods. The stillness can be very calming and inspiring at times. You can find beauty in the simple things that make up a town every time you see it. The bad: It can get very boring and monotonous looking at and being in the same place all time. It's even worse if you feel like you don't fit in and there's no one you can relate to. Small town mentalities aren't always the most inspiring or open minded. I guess it just depends where you are, where you look,  or who you talk to.
You made a video called « soundtrack to my life ». My question might sound quite vague, but why are you listening to some music ?
I listen to all kinds of music and I'm never really too picky with most genres. I guess what can attract me to a song (lol) is by how it was made/arranged. Like what sounds/instruments were used to make it, the lyrics that make it up, and sometimes the personality of the band or artist can impact how much i like the song. I really like stuff that I can walk, dance, or think to.
Are you an artist ?
I think I am... How can I say that in the least pretentious way? Haha... I like to create things in anyway I can. I like to believe that i'm creative...
If you could describe America in 3 words.
It's cool sometimes.
What do you want to be ?
Many things. I want to make art in all forms and never stop doing so, I want to be a good student,I want to be healthy and positive till I die, and I want to be someone who makes money. Lol...
What is it to be Black ?
To have melanin is the first thing haha... And you are a member of the African diaspora.
What are you going to do after answering my questions ?
Probably do some yoga, watch a documentary about Lorde, and study. Ehh but it could change...Â

TUMBLR OF THE WEEK 6/ ART COMES FIRST
http://artcomesfirst.tumblr.com/
18+
Boy and Sis bewitch us. When I first listened to their record “trust”, I felt the same emotions as when I was 14 and listened to Massive Attack. It was a kind of hypnotism, leading to a deep introspection into my grey soul. As dark as 18+ might sound, the gloominess is smartly surrounded by a care, a work, a perfectionism the electronic beats emphasise. We are invited to approach them visually, through video projections and lighting games during their performances. The album cover is sublimely simple, but we should never judge a book by its cover.
