                Steve was basically putty in Billy’s hands, his body reacting to every touch and every word. “Shut up” He murmured with a smile, one hand moving to cup the back of the other’s head to kiss him back deeply, letting his eyes shut as he let himself relax for the first time in probably a week, the tension dropping from his shoulders. Groaning softly as his ass was kneaded, he let out a gasp and his hand tightening in Billy’s hair as he was teased. “Fuck I missed it a lot, missed it so so much”

Really what Steve wanted to do with his life was none of Eddies business. He didn’t need to know what was going on in the others head, christ alive he didn’t DESERVE to know. But he can’t help the way it angers him, chalk it up to the pain he felt when they were in the house minutes back, ether way Eddie can’t help the words that have already fallen nor the words that continue. “Bullshit.” Curse is out easily, car turning down another street. “Ya got friends all over town that would take you in and you know it, Harrington. ” He really should shut up before he gets himself into trouble, but where would he be without his smart ass comments? “Whatever man you deserve better than that crap.”

                  Steve flinched at the curse, inhaling almost sharply and his head turning away to look out of the window. Rubbing the palms of his hands against his jeans, he frowned, mulling on Eddie’s words and he could feel the frustration building, mostly directed at himself. He was never good at finding the words he needed in these situations, he felt like he was constantly walking on eggshells... No, eggshells were too tame, it felt more like landmines, one wrong move and the other would explode at him. He knew he could leave that house and he knew he could just about survive on what he earned so why didn’t he? “I don’t know why” He admitted quietly, continuing to stare out the window, not wanting to look Eddie in eyes for fear of spilling too much.

Movement is tracked by wandering eyes, it can’t be helped any longer. Everything is so painfully heightened that Eddie swears he could hear the change of a fleas breathing patterns, which is probably possible. Literally. “Uh huh.” Vocabulary lost on him and it’s easy to see why the longer Eddie allows his eyes to roam over Steves body, itch in his gums growing stronger by the second. This was a bad idea. Question breaks the trance he’d been in, finally looking back up to the other while chewing the inside of his cheek. Open loaded question, seriously.

The reality behind Eddie coming topside is one that he’s tried to come to terms with over the passing days but it doesn’t make it any less painful to recall; memories engrained deep within him now. “It shouldn’t be.” Stating the obvious won’t get them any further. “Would have come back sooner but — I wasn’t strong enough yet.” His throat still hurts, voice strained the more he speaks. Fingers numbly tap at his side before he’s abruptly moving past Steve towards the center of his bedroom, ignoring the way stomach churns as he catches Steves scent. Heightened by the shower no doubt, it’s not helping Eddie focus at all. “I don’t really know how to explain this man it’s… uh – kinda wild.” Slumped on the edge of Steves bed his elbows come to rest against the tops of his thighs, eyes turned downard towards the carpet. “Already freak out half the god damn town, it’s only going to get worse now.”

                  Steve frowned as he watched Eddie and felt a bad pang in his chest as his mind actually began to catch up. If Eddie was here, he had still been in the Upside Down when they had left, and the guilt that comes with how they had left him there sits heavy on his chest. “God, Eddie” He breathed out and he shivered briefly as the cold wind from the brush past caught him before turned to watch the other carefully. “We thought we had lost you”

Observing the way that Eddie moved, he quickly made the decision to follow suit and sit down on the bed next to the other. “Try me, kinda wild seems to be part of the whole job description when it comes to this stuff, I don’t think it can get much more wild” Steve spoke with a small smile, turning his head to focus on Eddie. “Hey no, I’m sure it won’t get worse, and you’ve got us now right? We’ll help you out in any way we can, we’re a team and whatever is happening, I’m here for you” He spoke with assurance, wondering if he had spoken to any of the others yet or if he was the first.

Thinking about Steve, who is so often talked down to that he doesn’t fight back on it, even when that kind of disrespect comes from kids younger than him who he routinely bends over backward to help. Steve, who told Nancy there was no point in him working on his college application essays because he wasn’t going to get in anyway. Steve, who isn’t surprised that he couldn’t get into Tech schools and says he has no future with a shrug. Steve, who is so used to being told how dumb he is that he doesn’t even look upset anymore when it happens. Steve, who feels the need to ask follow-up questions and get clarification on nearly everything because he doesn’t trust himself to know what’s going on unless someone else—someone “smarter”—lays it out for him. Steve, who finds actual relief instead of grief over the fact that he fell down the stairs as a baby because he thinks it could put an explanation behind why he is the way he is. Steve, who regularly refers to himself as an idiot and has no one who ever tells him otherwise. Steve, who gets ragged on for not being able to win a fight even though he’s clearly a lover, not a fighter, and seems reluctant to harm anyone that isn’t a monster threat. Steve, who only ends up in those fights 9 out of 10 times because he was looking out for others and trying to help by putting himself on the line despite knowing he’s going to get seriously hurt. Steve, who won’t pick up a gun as a weapon like Nancy or Jonathan or Hopper, or even a makeshift sword like Dustin and Eddie. Steve, who continues to use things like nail-bats and boat oars because he doesn’t want to be the guy who hurts people any more than he has to. Steve, who thinks he has no purpose beyond how much he can help others, so now he’s taken a full-time role of being the one to charge headfirst into danger and try to keep others safe because it’s literally the only time he feels like he’s worth something which is only solidified by the fact that everyone lets him and even expects him to.
