There remain many restrictions and intricate details within application processes which immigrants are expected to know, despite this not being common knowledge of the average American citizen. We have also seen an increase in waiting periods after applying. This is a problem when 81.6 million temporary visas were issued for vacationers, business affairs, etc., while only 1 million green card visas were issued to immigrants. It is no coincidence that the increased presence of people of color is paired with an increase in strict immigration law. The immigration system favors white applicants, whether this was the implied intent or not. With this in mind, it is important to push for reform in order to create a comfortable and efficient system that serves our neighbors instead of fulfilling numerical quotas. I urge everyone to stay informed about the people appointed by Presidential candidates, as they will have a direct effect on how sectors of the country will be run. It is important to keep in mind that when issues arise within immigration policy, the Secretary of Homeland Security is who to look towards. Voting can be stressful, but research is your best friend!
