Couple restores abandoned French Chateau, starts a blog
Scenes from my morning commute... This kid is like 8...what exactly is in that paper that he NEEDS to be up on and aware of by the time he gets to school? What ever happened to action figures? ;) Future Bill Gates?
Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas...
High up in the French Alps, on the top terrace of the Aiguille du Midi mountain peak, sits a new five-sided glass structure called the Chamonix Skywalk. The installation was inspired by the Grand Canyon’s glass skywalk, but it takes the concept to the next level. Instead of looking out over a railing, visitors can hover 1,035 meters (3,396 feet) above the valley in an enclosed transparent box, surrounded on all sides by custom-made 12 mm (1/2 inch) glass. The skywalk will open to the public on December 21, 2013.

When I get back to SOF - this is on my (growing) list of things to do and redo
I'm kind of a fan.
Came across some interesting reading while doing some research this morning.

Losing 3 people in 4 months is: eye opening. Life changing. Heart/gut wrenching and miserable.
Reflecting on the good times and especially the laughter - attempting to hold those memories close so when I stop and realize Ill never get another hug or kiss, it doesn't kill me.
Many things to be thankful for this year - especially that I'm able to be with family this holiday season.
It might be sleeting and 19 degrees out but memories of summers on crescent lane are just as fresh as they were 23,24,25...26 years ago. Walking to Wendy's holding my hand and singing to me..smelling the honeysuckle and wishing I'd never grow up. A frosty from Wendy's is as close to Columbus, Ohio as I can get right now. I'll be home soon, gram...to hold your hand one last time. RIP Marjorie (Sue) O'Hearn Deckard-Bernard. 1933-2013
Matthew Schuler or rather, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s describes in scary detail how I've felt almost my whole life...
I've always felt I've been alone out there, It didn't matter which continent I was on or where I was living- completely surrounded by people or on a remote island with very few, not many understood my thoughts of: constantly contradicting myself- fitting in but always wanting to be alone, extremely talkative but keeping 99% of my life private, being semi street smart (as smart as one can be when from small town Ohio) but truly believing in all the "baddies" as my old roommate from Philly calls them, and most of all having more energy and excitement than three friends combined and then with a snap of my fingers able to go home and take a nap.
Approaching the beginning of my 30th year, I was truly beginning to think something was wrong with me, that the tug and pull of everyday life (who am I/do I want to be/should be?) wasn't normal. Little did I know someone else was out there not only blogging about it, but blogging about someone else that has WRITTEN A BOOK and to boot, been studying people like me for the last 30 years!!! Now.... am I anything special? Absolutely not. I feel crazy half the time and although I love being creative and I believe part of this has been ingrained in me through many years of art school - i know looking at my parents a lot of it was not only taught, but learned behavior.
Reading through all 9 traits it was almost as if someone had interviewed me or taken a peek into my brain to get the answers. I mentally checked off every single one- astonished but also, relieved.
If you are reading this and have ever felt this way...there are other people out there like you. Send me a message. heck, send Matthew one. I'm going to-I need to thank him. :)
4-8yr Olds Describing Love.
Rebecca, age 8: When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.
Terri, age 4: Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.
Danny, age 7: Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.
Nikka, age 6: If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.
Elaine, age 5: Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.
Chris, age 7: Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.
Mary Ann, age 4: Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.
I'm happier than I have been in a long time. Happy for the right reasons, happy. I don't know where it came from or how it even happened, but I do know - I'm not going to let it go. Life is beautiful and deliciously good. I'm not sure how I got so lucky but I'm not taking one minute of all this goodness for granted.
Patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital got some super visitors recently when Spider-Man, Captain America and a few other superheroes showed up to clean hospital windows.
I love Columbus
98 year old dobri dobrev, a man who lost his hearing in the second world war, walks 10 kilometers from his village in his homemade clothes and leather shoes to the city of sofia, where he spends the day begging for money.
though a well known fixture around several of the city’s chruches, known for his prostrations of thanks to all donors, it was only recently discovered that he has donated every penny he has collected — over 40,000 euros — towards the restoration of decaying bulgarian monasteries and churches and the utility bills of orphanages, living instead off his monthly state pension of 80 euros.
Goodness in the world. It's still out there.
Not talkin' 'bout a year No not three or four I don't want that kind of forever In my life anymore Forever always seems to be around when it begins but forever never seems to be around when it ends
“I realized I had just entered an interesting chapter in my life. I had outgrown the boys of my past and not quite grown into the men of my future.”
