i will consistently go to bat against the use of 'narcissist' as a perjorative at all even if not made in direct reference to the psychiatric diagnosis, not because i think that the psychiatrized ought to be organizing a politic around the defense and advancement of psychiatric labels, but rather because the concept of 'arrogance' -- i.e. 'excessive self-confidence', under a cultural hegemony that considers any self-confidence or act of assertion on the behalf of women, of racialized or transmisogynized people, on behalf of proletarians to be 'excessive' is an overwhelmingly regressive one
what does it mean to levy a charge against someone that they behave with too much self-importance, that they have too much confidence in themselves? on what basis are you deciding what is 'too much', what is the 'sufficient' amount of conviction and self-possession someone 'ought' to have? in a society whose dominant culture and morality are forged to the end of preventing the working class from recognizing a collective self-interest and demonizing that recognition where it emerges?
I cannot emphasize enough how exactly accurate this is to working in production
Breaking news
Imagine that one day as you're walking on a hot sunny path, your hat jumps off your head and lands into a muddy ditch. And you look at your muddy hat and ask it: "What did you do that for?"
"I don't want to be a burden anymore", your hat answers. "You are always carrying me around, and I can't carry you. That's not fair."
"I don't mind carrying you, little idiot", you tell your hat, "you hardly weight anything at all, and you shelter me from the sun."
"But that's different", your hat protests. "I don't mind the sun scorching on me. That happens anyway. It's literally no trouble for me to shade you too."
"Just the same it's no trouble for me to carry you. But now, because you wanted to stop inconveniencing and bothering me, I am now hatless and you are in the dirt."
hello Aesop; how's the underworld been?
Every day I wake up and Hades kicks me in the nuts.
Mad about politics again
been sort of obsessively combing through articles and websites and resources about top surgery and recovery more and more as I gear up to My Big Day and while I hate to report I may have gotten through most of the scientifically rigorous and reputable sites I am at least, now, stumbling over some of the funnier AI generated slop images i've ever seen in my quest for Patient Information
They missed. 😔
They say ooooh be a good boy for daddy and you'll get a reward. But then the reward is just gay sex. This is bullshit. I wanted a skateboard
Then they say if you're a bad boy daddy will punish you. But what's the punishment? More gay sex! You can't escape it. This whole damn place is in the pocket of Big Sex
9 out of 10 times I see people on here celebrating a new "landmark piece of anti-AI legislation" the legislation in question is inevitably some variation of "we propose making IP laws more restrictive but presented through the language of opposing AI". But that one from germany about holding google liable for the words of its AI overview feature is legitimately good I think. If they actively choose to shove that thing in everyone's face as the first thing they're going to see when they make a google search then they shouldn't be able to dodge accountability for the information it provides with a little "gemini AI can be inaccurate, please remember to double-check information teeheehee" disclaimer.
the germany ruling is good because it's targeting something that's bad to do whether it's done by an AI or a human

i really hate the way the "boobs vs butt" thing got broken down into this implicit idea that butt is the nobler stance. it's really stupid. personally im a woman guy. [realizes how that sounds] [purses my lips in thought] [nods confidently] im a woman guy
