Lots of people like to party hard on New Year's Eve, but the oriental hornet can party all year round! This species has the highest resistance for alcohol of any known animal- able to consume and metabolize nectar with an ethanol concentration of up to 80% with no detectable behavioral or physical effects. This ability likely comes from the oriental hornets' diet, which often consists of fermented fruit.

The best insect pictures I took when I was in France. Specifically in Aigues-Mortes and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. And these were all on the same day lol.

Also, Southern France has a lot of dragonflies everywhere, and I loved that. I can never get enough of these silly helicopter guys.

Greater Arid Land Katydid (Neobarrettia spinosa), male, family Tettigoiidae, Central TX, USA

Omnivorous (feeding on leaves and predatory on invertebrates and small vertebrates).

They are actually a predator of low nesting songbirds!

Some individuals have red eyes, so another name for this species is the "Red-eyed Devil".
