@weekend-special
Red rice sushi and Korean BBQ tofu
Memorial Day weekend special: Potato and spinach frittata. Gooseberry jam, toast, and rooibos tea. Mmmmmm
First asparagus! It was a two year wait for these to mature (some I planted from seed, a couple from root stock). And the final wave of tulips. Now we have to learn what to plant for summer blooms.
Duck eggs and sautéed greens for breakfast; pizzas for dinner
New Year is coming! Early kiri bath and seeni sambal for breakfast (coconut milk rice and spiced, caramelised onions sweetened w palm sugar). And dinner w Friends who came up from the lovely city of Binghampton.
Weekend meals: Eggs, salads, breads. Trader Joe enchiladas w vegetable-lemon rice pilaf
Two days of eggs in a courgette-red onion and poblano pepper skillet; today with turmeric and Mozambican chillies + a sprinkling of melting cheese from the Central Americas (we've found good stuff at a cheap grocery frequented by every first gen immigrant of Syracuse), yesterday w Provençal herbs. Japanese hand painted teacups.
Vegetarian Enchiladas with J's famous cornbread. That's the filling: courgette, poblanos, red onions and white beans. For Presidents Day, we eat immigrant food, to honour those who labour for this country, and who are now being deported summarily from the homes they made in the US -- for 10, 15, 20 years.
Potato, leek & herb frittata. Ceylon tea from my aunt's small plot in Ratnapura. and our oldest friend in the northeast, whose ceramic artwork is all over our home. Wonderful snowy Sunday.
Today in dirty immigrant food that's gonna take your jobs and women: eggs on black beans, cilantro-lime rice, plantains, and grilled pineapple. Tomato and tomatillo salsa made from last year's crop. Avocados (yes, from Mexico, said label from Price Right, the local grocery that is always filled with the county's immigrant Muslims, Hispanics, and black people alike, in search of yucca, cilantro, and collard greens).
Green salad with apple and roasted red beets from the garden-harvested before the hard frost set in. With fig balsamic. Half priced raising and oat bread from out Syracuse farmers market.
Today on dirty smelly terrorising immigrant food: Bhutanese red rice, cabbage w black beans, grilled, curried tofu. And some flat bread w rosemary and salt, oat-baguette. And marscapone mixed w mango achar (just to terrorise the French). Preparing for class and writing about Joel Andrianomearisoa's exciting work for the Cape Town Art Fair.
Cornmeal dusted tofu (marinated in spices, grilled) with baby bok choi. Fave after a lap big swim.
