Aeromorphs: the first 50 years

In this universe, the aeromorph is considered to be something like the spirit or soul of an aircraft. It’s a form the plane can take when it’s not being used as a machine. Nobody knows how this happens, or why they exist

‪1900s- Kitty Hawk: The ‘hangar ghost’ occasionally spotted by the Wright brothers in place of their flyer. Her existence was never confirmed‬

‪1910s- Sopwith Pup: Aeromorphs of the shy biplane were often spotted by WW1 pilots late at night, communicating amongst each other with strange propeller-noises. ‬

A few pilots were able to gain the trust of these creatures, and found them to be deeply loyal.

‪post WW1, reports of the existence of ‘plane spirits’ were corroborated by many pilots, though some still considered it a myth.

‪1920s- the Spirit of St Louis: Lindbergh’s plane is considered the first ‘celebrity aeromorph’. Unlike the first planes, Spirit was not shy about revealing herself to the adoring public‬

Aeromorph existence slowly becomes common knowledge, leading to ‘aeromadness’ in the 20’s: a public fascination with all things aviation

1930s- Lockheed Electra: ‪By the 30’s many pilots had formed deep friendships with their aircraft. Aviation was no longer a novelty, but accidents were still common‬

‪1940s- P-40 Warhawk: in stark contrast to WW1, fighter planes in the Second World War were treated as collaborators and often provided valuable strategic input. A new generation of fighters were created, ones that craved the thrill of battle‬

‪1950s- “Super Connie”: By the 50s, the aeromorph was not just a curiosity only encountered by those working in aviation. The first airliners, like the Lockheed Constellation, were expected to fly well and present a friendly image to the public

Thank you to everyone who's boosted my commissions post so far, I really appreciate it...my job is very unstable rn and while I have enough in my savings that I'll be ok in the near future, I might be relegated to part-time (meaning less pay) or even let go come this October so I'd rather not have to dip into my savings if I can avoid it.

He's learned his lesson! No more giant bugs! And non-carnivorous ones! Surely things will go well this time! (They did not.)

I noticed both O'Neal and Rogozova were assigned to Focus Labs after "causing trouble". Is Focus the dumping ground for the problem employees corporate can't justify getting rid of? If it isn't a spoiler, which other characters got reassigned there?

California and Oregon Corporate Science (or COCS, pronounced like sauce) recruits wayward talented people from all over the country, for their classified facilities.

In 1947, physicist Theodora Yang invented faster than light travel for inorganic objects. She used her machine to launch bombs to disrupt several stars in the night sky, which Earth would begin to witness the effects of years later. Despite her crime of modifying cosmic bodies, her insane mind was "rehabilitated" and put to use during the space race. Americans would not have gotten to the moon without her. For years, her legacy was kept classified. But in the early 2000s she became rediscovered as a feminist figure, and part of Asian American history, with numerous childrens books and a movie. This famous example has softened Americans hearts to the rehabilitation of dubious mad scientists.

COCS takes inspiration from Theodora's story in the way they run their facilities. Brilliant minds should not be held back by circumstance. Despite past mistakes, all scientific minds should shine to their full unique potential, like the stars Theodora disrupted.

Each of Focus Labs' inspiring scientists has a unique story. To some, Focus Labs is their halfway home. Many find motivation in the fact that they may be classified now, but they too could be like Theodora!
