I decided to sketch some Frevolutionaries because I love anything revolutionary 😤🗣️‼️
I’m really proud of how they all look, even if they are all just sketches. As you can see I’m brushing up on my traditional skills as I hadn’t used them in a while :3
Michel Ney awaits his burial
I saw this picture of Ney’s corpse laying down on some bed stretcher thing while presumably waiting for burial and I immediately went “I wanna draw that 🫵”

According to the Marshal Michel Ney’s 1912 biography:
To the year 1791, when Michel Ney was still “brigadier,” belongs the story of his only recorded duel. The fencing-master of the Chasseurs de Vintimille, who were also in garrison at Metz, had challenged the fencing-master of the Hussars Colonel-Général, and wounded him badly. After this the victor behaved in an insulting and provoking way whenever he met the hussars. The non-commissioned officers of the regiment held a meeting and decided that a stop must be put to his insolence, and Ney was chosen as the champion who was to fight him.
The challenge was accepted and the two swordsmen met in the presence of deputations of their comrades. They had just crossed swords when Ney felt himself pulled backwards by some one who had taken a firm grip of his plaited pig-tail. Turning he saw that it was his Colonel, who had thus unceremoniously interrupted the duel. The military code of the day made it a serious offence and Ney was marched off to prison, But a petition of his comrades led to his being set free with a caution in a few days.
I love the imagery of a young Ney being dragged by his braid so much that I had to do a low effort doodle 😔

Sub Rosa 🥀
The Latin term sub rosa meaning "under the rose" is a phrase referring to the secrecy or confidentiality of something. It originates from Greek and Roman mythology where Cupid gave a rose to Harpocrates, the god of silence, in order for him to keep quiet about the secrets of Aphrodite.
The characters featured here are Maria Romanova, based on the actual historical Maria Nikolaevna, daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, and my oc Serhiy Makovsky, both are characters in my work in progress story The Revolutionary :D

So…a friend of mine was listening to The Ballad of Sara Berry from the 35mm: A Musical Exhibition album and they mentioned how they were imagining Murat as the titular Sara Berry so I did what I had to do 😤
All the gore is really poorly drawn here, I just doodled everything really quickly but omg I love the concept of Murat girlbossing and murdering people for some reason 😭 It was also really fun to draw the marshals as dead guys for some reason 💀

I was scrolling through Napoleonic tumblr when I found this dance scene with Ney and I knew I had to find the film it was from (I need to find who posted it again tho so I can give credit 🥲). The movie, Rzhevsky Versus Napoleon, is a Russian-Ukrainian film from 2012, and somehow it is uploaded in its full entirety on Youtube (without subtitles) and I watched the whole. Fucking. Movie. Without understanding Russian. Volodymr Zelenskyy plays Napoleon. I feel like my life has been changed forever now. It’s so bad it’s good, I’m not kidding. And that picture of clown Ney from the movie is one of the most blursed things I’ve ever seen, so of course I had to draw it.
