Since there are a lot more people following this blog than when I last introduced myself:

Hello! I’m Mare (short for Mary, pronounced like the horse). My pronouns are she/her/hers. I’m 30 and I live in the state of NY. I have been a Sirens fan since Day One, despite making it to literally only one game a year!

I mostly use this blog to live blog games on the #pwhl lb tag and post about women’s hockey. I follow other women’s sports (WNBA, Unrivaled, NWSL, WER) and sometimes post about them on my main blog, but this is my main sports hyper-fixation at the moment.

I have been a hockey fan my entire life, but still don’t always know all the little details of the rules. Feel free to ask, but it might take me a sec to look it up! There are tons of very smart and knowledgeable fans in the community who always have answers for me when I ask too, and I’m grateful to have them on this site!

Did I know Norcross wasn't re-signing with New York? Basically yes. Was I sad about it because of how hard she worked to get back into the PWHL after not being with New York in 2024-25? Also yes.

In other framing, the Sirens now officially have two players left from their inaugural season. They've almost entirely ship of Theseus'd us in less than 5 years

Are any of you people at Dashcon Two 2 in Toronto? I’m not there, I’m just curious if PWHLblr has any rep. And many of you are physically In Ontario.

Obviously the league wasn’t around during Dashcon One, but many of us were!

A message to Vancouver Goldeneyes Season Ticket Members from Cara Gardner Morey

Our inaugural season was an incredible one, and I’m so proud of what we accomplished in our first year. Together, with you our fans, we built a strong foundation and created something truly special.

Since making the decision to change our coaching direction, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting, debriefing the season, and having thoughtful conversations with the league.

Through that process, I realized how much I missed being behind the bench and that coaching is where I can make the biggest impact for the Goldeneyes right now. After a great deal of consideration, I’ve decided to move into the head coach role. To have the opportunity to coach the roster we’ve assembled is an incredible privilege, and I can’t wait for us to take to the ice later this year and to continue building on the culture, identity and vision we’ve established together.

The league will lead the search for Vancouver’s next General Manager, and I will work closely with them through this transition period to ensure we’re tracking towards where we need to be leading into our second season.

Thank you for your continued support as a Vancouver Goldeneyes Season Ticket Member and for being part of our team. We look forward to seeing you back at the Pacific Coliseum for the 2026-27 season.

When Akane Shiga signed with the PWHL in season one, she made it out of training camp having never played for a club team outside of Japan before, and played every game primarily in depth minutes despite the hardships of 1) moving abroad for the first time at the age of 23 with a lot of uncertainty around if she’s get a roster spot at first and making very little money 2) playing in a league that had just started to all the teams were new and kind of figuring things out, which obviously all players had to deal with but once again adds another layer of unfamiliarity 3) not having played with most of her teammates or coaches before, where as a lot of the other players had some familiarity from past clubs or college teams. To have made the roster and been a regular player then was a testament to her talent, tenacious play, and pro level ability. That all being said, I think we’re going to see a much different Akane Shiga this time around. Shes spent two years now playing top level minutes with Luleå in the sdhl, one of the leagues best clubs for pro level development, and became one of their top scorers. Additionally, even though its an expansion team, she’ll be coming into a league that has more established structure and less of the “fuck it we ball” energy season one had which has helped a lot of other players and I think will help her too. Overall I think we’ll see more of her offensive playmaking ability translate over
