This is my favorite leap year quote.
reblogging in honor of me realizing it’s a leap year
I will also be inspired by the love between Frog and Toad.
For my final day of blogging I’ve decided to listen to Alex Isley who is an R&B artist that is related to the Isley Brothers. I listened to her recent release “Gone” and her album Dreams in Analog which was released in 2013. “Gone” is a super soothing song that reminded me a lot of H.E.R. or SZA’s style of music. The song has lo fi hip hop study beats vibes and I really liked it. Dreams in Analog had a very similar feel which I really enjoyed. Considering her musical roots it is not surprising that Isley is a wonderful singer but her unique style and song composition make her stand out. I will definitely be exploring more Alex Isley’s music.

Today I decided to listen to some of 100 gecs’s discography. 100 gecs is an experimental music group that consists of Dylan Brady and Laura Les. Today they released a single called “ringtone” which features Rico Nasty, Charli XCX, and Kero Kero Bonito. Since Rico Nasty is one of my favorite female artists I decided to listen to the single and 100 gecs album 1000 gecs. The single was super catchy and fun but not the type of music I would usually enjoy. The album, 1000 gecs, was super disorienting to listen to and sounded very chaotic. I can see how their music might appeal to others but I don’t think I will be listening to more of 100 gecs in the future. I did like their song “stupid horse” but ultimately I think their music is too experimental for me.
Today I decided to listen to Gerardo Ortiz’s new album Más Caro, Que Ayer. Listening to Spanish music is not necessarily out of my musical comfort zone as I listen to it regularly, but Gerardo Ortiz is a Hispanic artist that I had not heard of before. His style of music is also different from the Spanish music I usually listen to as I tend to listen to Latin trap, pop, and Colombian reggaeton while Ortiz is known for his regional Mexican sound. The album which was released Friday is composed of 13 ballads and five love songs. Ortiz’s voice is beautiful and most of the songs are very upbeat and fun to listen too. I would say my favorite song on the album is “El sombrero no se cae” which is one of the many ballads on the album. This album has made me more interested in exploring the genre of regional Mexican music as I really enjoyed Ortiz’s album.
