Neither of us had made an exact plan what we wanted to do we spontaniosly decided to visit Humayun‘s Tomb. We planned on taking the bus but a the number in question did‘t come for ages we just took a rickshaw. When you enter the ground of the UNESCO-worldheritage you first go right to the tomb of Isa Khan Niyazis (built 1547), a Afghan noble, who fought against the Mughals under the Suri dynasty.Following the main path you get to the main buildng which was built in 1570 and is of particular cultural significance as it was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. It inspired major architectural innovations, for example the Taj Mahal. It was comissioned for the Mughal emperor Humayun by his widow Haji Begum.

Da keiner von uns vorher einen genauen Plan erstellt hatte haben wir spontan beschlossen uns Humayun‘s Tomb anzuschauen. Eigentlich wollten wir mit dem Bus fahren, aber da die betreffende Nummer ewig nicht kam sind wir schließlich doch mit der Autoriksha hingefahren. Wenn man das Gelände des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes betritt gibt es auf der rechten Seite eine Abzweiging zum Grabmal Isa Khan Niyazis (erbaut 1547), eines afghanischen Adeligen, der sich in der Suri Dynastie im Kampf gegen die Mogulen verdient gemacht hat. Dem Hauptweg folgen gelamgt man zum  Hauptgebäude, das 1570 erbaut wurde und kulturell besonders bedeutend ist, da es das erste Grabmal in einem Garten auf dem indischen Subkontinent war. Es diente als Inspiration für viele architektonische Neuheiten, unter anderem dem Taj Mahal. In Auftrag gegeben wurde es für den Mogulherrscher Humayun von seiner Witwe Haji Begum.

1st day: New Delhi

As my dads flight was scheduled to arrive before 9 am I booked a flight with the same arrival time and had to leave quite early for that reason. So I took a cab to the airport in the middle of the night and as I had planned everything with a lot of extra time I didn‘t have to rush at all to get through check-in and luggage drop. After having went through security I took my time with my breakfast and just made it to the plane on time. From there everything went smoothly and we found each other quite quickly at the New Delhi airport without either of us having to wait long.

Together we took the Metro to our hotel „Cottage Yes Please“ which was really nice. In the room my dad gave me a few things from home consisting mainly of food. After a short break we went to a restaurant on the other side of the street and had an abundant and very tasty lunch.

1. Tag: New Delhi

Da der Flug meines Vaters noch vor 9 Uhr ankommen sollte hatte ich einen Flug mit derselben Ankunftszeit gebucht und musste dementsprechend früh los. Ich bin also mitten in der Nacht mit einem Taxi zum Flughafen gefahren und da ich mit großem Zeitpuffer geplant hatte konnte ich das Eichecken und die Gepäckabgabe sehr entspannt angehen lassen und alles hat reibungslos funtioniert. Nach der Security habe ich mir dann doch so viel Zeit beim Frühstücken gelassen dass ich es gerade noch rechtzeitig an Bord des Flugzeuges geschafft habe. Von da an lief aber wirklich alles glatt und wir haben uns am Flughafen in Delhi relativ schnell gefunden ohne dass einer länger hätte warten müssen.

Von dort sind wir mit der Metro bis zu unserem Hotel „Cottage Yes Please“ gefahren was sehr schön war. Im Zimmer habe ich erstmal ein paar Mitbringsel, die hauptsächlich aus Essen bestanden bekommen und nach einer kurzen Pause sind wir ins Restaurant auf der anderen Straßenseite gagangen um zu Mittag zu essen, was sehr schmackhaft und sehr reichlich war.

Big Trip

As I get 30 days of with 6 workdays a week and I only used a few of them over Christmas it seemed like a good idea to use the remaining up all at once in one big trip.The first 2 weeks I spent with my dad and the rest with other volunteers.

This was the route for the trip:

I flew from Bangalore to New Delhi where I met up with my dad at the airport. We stayed for 2 days before we travelled on to Agra. After that we went to Jaipur via the Ranthambore National Park. In Udaipur we decided to skip the rest of Rajasthans because of the heat and went north to Rishikesh. There we spent our last days together quite relaxed and then went back to New Dehli where our ways parted again.

From there I flew to Kolkata as my co-volunteer who took part in a meditaion seminar in Nagpur and I had planned to meet up at the place of some other volunteers from our sending organisation just outside of the city. We spwnt some really nice days with them and also visited their projects and the surrounding area before we travelled to Darjeeling. There it was pleasantly cool which was a nice change coming from the sultry area around Kolkata, where we had to get back to after a few days nonetheless as our flight to Mumbai took of from there.

In Mumbai we met up with some other volunteers from south india end enjoyed the feeling of the big city before we headed towards our last destination. The remaining days of the vacation were spent chilling on the beach and exploring the area around Anjuna in Goa. The 4 weeks had just flown by and it was already time to go back.

Große Reise

Während meines Freiwilligendienstes stehen mir 30 Urlaubstage bei einer 6 Tages Arbeitswoche zu und da ich davon erst ein paar über Weihnachten verbraucht hatte hat es sich angeboten die restlichen auf einer großen Reise aufzubrauchen. Die ersten beiden Wochen war ich mit meinem Vater unterwegs und den Rest mit anderen Freiwilligen.

Das war die Reiseroute:

Von Bangalore bin ich nach New Delhi geflogen wo ich mich am Flugfafen mit meinem Vater getroffen habe. Dort haben wir zwei Tage verbracht bevor es weiter nach Agra ging. Danach sind wir über mit einem Umweg über den Ranthambore National Park nach Jaipur gefahren. In Udaipur haben wir dann beschlossen den Rest Rajasthans aufgrund der hohen Temperaturen sausen zu lassen und sind über Jaipur ins weiter nördlich gelegene Rishikesh gefahren. Dort haben wir unsere gemeinsame Zeit recht entspannt ausklingen lassen bevor sich unsere Wege in Delhi wieder getrennt haben.

Für mich ging es weiter nach Kolkata, wo ich mich etwas außerhalb der Stadt in der Einsatzstelle anderer Freiwilliger unserer Entsedeorganisation mit meinem Mitfreiwilligen wieder getroffen habe, der zuvor auf einem Meditationsseminar in Nagpur war. Dort waren wir ein paar Tage und sind mit in die Projekte gegangen und haben uns die Gegend angeschaut. Von dort ging es dann ins angenehm kühle Darjeeling wo wir uns etwas von der schwülen Hitze erholen konnten. Bald ging es dann allerdings wieder zurück nach Kolkata, da wir von dort nach Mumbai geflogen sind.

Dort angekommen haben wir uns mit den anderen südinischen Freiwilligen getroffen und haben noch etwas Großstadtfeeling getankt bevor es weiterging. Unsere letzte Station war Anjuna in Goa wo wir uns einfach am Strand entspannt haben und uns noch etwas die Gegend angeschaut haben. Dann waren die 4 Wochen die wie im Flug vergangen sind auch leider schon vorbei und es ging wieder zurück.

As the museum closed quite early we drove to a temple, that turned out to be two. The smaller one was in the middle of a pond and the bigger one in the other side of the road. After that we went to another venue of the music festival.

Da das Museum relativ früh geschlossenen hat sind wir danch noch zu einem Tempel gefahren, die sich dann als zwei herausgestellt haben. Der kleinere war in der Mitte eines Beckens und der größere auf der anderen Straßenseite. Danach sind wir dann zu einem anderen Veranstaltungsort des Music Festivals gefahren.
