Yao nodded and graciously took the peach from the stranger’s hand, throwing it up and catching it. It was just another peach from the Empress’ garden, after all. Even if it were poisoned, he would survive it anyway, so there was no need to be cautious. But he had no appetite.

”Well, you certainly seem very aware of your current state. What brought you here then? Did you want to come to the Empress’ garden, or did you have another destination in mind?" Yao let out a silent huff of amusement, "Or did you simply follow the wind and the mountain passes to suddenly find yourself here?”

He examined the peach in his hand. A fruit rumored to possess the liquor of immorality. How ironic. “Very few people end up here by accident." He dipped the peach in the stream and rubbed at the skin, imitating the movements of washing. But he knew that regardless of how much he tried to wash it, it would never be clean, like him.

【火】— The brunet tilted his head for a moment, pondering in silence as he thoughtfully stared into the void. He didn't really have an explanation, for his decision to sneak into the Imperial gardens had honestly been rather...spontaneous.

"I was just...wandering, I guess. I became a drifter overnight, so that's technically all I do nowadays." he sighed, taking yet another peach from the bag. "But no, I didn't end up here by accident. The only reason why I'm here is because filling up an entire bag with peaches and making a run for it is a lot easier than catching squirrels and frying them up." he admitted, toying with the fruit's stem before finally plucking it out. "Needless to say that it keeps my stomach full for longer."

With that, Hao leaned down again and dipped his hand into the water. A very faint sizzle occurred this time, resounding in his mind and causing him to automatically frown as cold waves smoothly flowed over his skin. He hadn't expected it — hoping that the stranger had failed to notice, he pulled back and quietly took a bite from the freshly-washed peach. Silence lingered quite comfortably between the two, ghosting above them until he eventually swallowed and turned to look at the prince once again.

"...I probably shouldn't be asking and you've already told me that I shouldn't care, but...what happened to you...?"

She pushed stray branches and leaves out of their way as they walked. The path she followed was mostly nonexistent; the only indications of it being there were the slightly taller level of sticks and rubble along the edges. Besides having to go around fallen trees, large rocks, or other obstacles obscuring the path Northeast, she followed where she believed lead to the general direction of the nearest village.

In her mind, Xiang Mi began to formulate a list of what supplies they would need to collect for the journey, and the proper amount to actually last fairly long enough before the reached a point they could acquire more. While she had several of the thing for herself, she had no idea if Hao had the necessities on his person.

She was drawn out of her planning by the young man’s voice asking about food, something which they would greatly need.

"I wouldn’t exactly say ‘gross,’" she replied hesitantly. "I’d say it more bland than anything. You do what you can with whatever you can find out here.” She gave a halfhearted shrug, thinking about how there was only so much you could do berries, wild fruits, and small trappable animals over a contained campfire. "Hopefully we’ll run across that village soon, or at least a farmer or peddler who’s willing to trade."

"When you say ‘spoilt,’ how ‘spoilt’ are we talking?" she couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity, it having been a while before she had thought about the wealthier side of life she originally lived near.

【火】— His thinking was definitely far less strategic than hers, but the good news was that they were both unknowingly agreeing on the fact that they needed food. He had no idea whether she had any money on her, though, and seeing as his pockets were practically empty, he genuinely hoped that she was, uh...financially prepared for this journey. Hao wasn't worried about having nothing to eat and ultimately starving to death (he could easily just sneak onto some farmer's property and steal a goose and some crops or whatever), but in times of war and poverty, he preferred not to opt for theft unless he had no other choice.

Either way, he was visibly relaxed. A gentle smile spread across his features as he looked down, carelessly following his guide through the cluttered woods.

"As spoiled as any only child can be." he admitted, purposefully holding back from going into too much detail about how outrageously luxurious his life used to be. "I remember that my neighbours had twins, though. You have no idea how envious they made me." he added, dry twigs occasionally cracking under his steps. "...Speaking of which. Do you have any brothers or sisters?"

【火】— The young man quietly stood in his kitchen, elbows resting against the window sill as he observed the sky's morning hues. He wasn't exactly thinking about anything, for he could practically feel the blankness that ghosted in his mind. Perhaps he was just being apathetic, but the more he lingered there munching on cold spring rolls, the more he wished he could turn into a tree and dig his roots into the floor...

It wasn't long until he snapped out of it, though, awakened from his reverie by the sound of knocking. Turning away almost automatically, he headed towards the door and casually swung it open, ending up staring straight into a pair of deep brown eyes.

"...Uh...good morning...?" he tilted his head, visibly confused by this unexpected visit.

Important HTML editing thingy

Okay, so I’ve seen A LOT of people complain about how they cannot edit their own HTML in the post without messing up the other person’s formatting. However, I’ve found a PERFECT solution to that, and you don’t even have to change the post’s format to HTML! Go to this site, do all the < small > / < sup > / < p > stuff you gotta do in the BLUE area, then once that is through copy and paste what is in the WHITE area. After that, just add all your spacing to center it and you’re done! No need to go to the HTML format either bc it is automatically small and in paragraphs when you paste it.
