Some words of wisdom from Gina Linetti.
Sometimes, we choose the darker path.
Barely finished this slow-paced attempt at a 3K.
Best run so far. And yes, I’m a beginner.
Everyday may not be a good day, but there is good in every day.
Breaking will most likely lead to creating. https://www.instagram.com/p/BqLBTueHoFh8F_xMDR0JPJ1OcLvB9zQc1ML7hU0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=m5xbb8zl3tgn

My fondness of @vincehizon12 became worse in when I was in college. In one of my writing classes, I had to do a personality profile of an actual celebrity. I tried to get an interview with him but I didn’t know how. So I settled for the next best thing: I interviewed her then-girlfriend-now-wife @patriciabermudezhizon. I didn’t even know her that well. But she was so nice and sweet. I went to the PTV studios where she used to work and spent about an hour with her. We spoke about her career, early days in television, how she got into sportscasting, and of course, Vince. This tape recorded had that entire interview. (I wonder if the tape is still working though.)
(Photo taken inside one of the make-up rooms at ABS-CBN) Remember the game show “Game KNB?” Sometime in the early 2000s, I was a contestant. The show went through different format changes. I joined when the contestants had to battle it out on the pyramid round. But before that, we were asked a question. Mine was: “Ano ang nasa kaliwang kamay ng Our Lady of Edsa sa Ortigas Edsa Shrine? Ibon or Rosaryo?” I told myself, what the fuck would a bird be doing on her hand. So I answered, “Rosaryo?” Kris Aquino let out a long sigh. “The correct answer is: ibon! Kasi Our Lady of Peace sha di ba?” I was pissed. “Awww sayang Brian you’re a cutie pa naman....” Kris said. I was happy to go home with a 1,000-peso consolation prize. Thanks @krisaquino 🤪 (at ELJ Corporate Center, ABS-CBN)
This is one of the original prints of @VinceHizon12’s photos which appeared on the Inquirer in the 90’s. I was the biggest Ginebra fan back then. So when he was featured on the paper, I told myself that I have to have that photo. I called the Inquirer and told them “I’m getting it for a friend who really likes Vince.” After several email exchanges, they gave me this. (To be continued...) (at Philippine Daily Inquirer)
It was the final day of our Vancouver trip. Our very gracious host decided to take us to the Queen Elizabeth park before heading to the airport. You may have seen this park before. The DC Comics TV shows already shot scenes at this park. The most recent one is a scene on Supergirl. This park is massive. It will probably take more than 2 hours to see everything. And we only had one hour to kill. So after 50 plus photos, we headed back to our car. We were shock to see one of the windows smashed. It took a few minutes for it to sink in. We were robbed! In broad daylight! In fucking Canada! Aren’t they supposed to be all nice and happy people here? But no, the thieves not only destroyed the Lexus SUV. They also took my colleague’s Macbook Pro, iPad, two phones, and some apple accessories. We were thankful that they probably didn’t have time to check the back of the car where our luggage were stored. So much for a farewell, Vancouver! (at Vancouver, British Columbia)
Getting my second job was one of the toughest decisions I made. I was still in college and I would need to temporarily drop out. My friends were disappointed. My parents were confused. So I made a promise to everyone. I will get that diploma no matter what. I went on leave in 2005. For six years, I was dedicated to my job. A lot happened within that period. I got promoted twice. I fell in love. I moved houses several times before moving back in with my parents. I was happy but I wanted more. And I know that while times have changed, some companies still ask you that damn question: do you have a bachelor’s degree? It haunted me for six years. While my friends went through their thesis struggles and eventually found jobs, I was busy thinking about what could have been. Shoulda woulda coulda. I talked about this at length with people in the office who also did not graduate. Why the fuck is it important? Is it still relevant? One day, my friend and I made a bet. We dared each other to go to UP Diliman that week and apply for re-enrollment. It started as a joke until it became a serious challenge. So I mustered enough courage to write a lengthy appeal to the school admin to take me back. It was approved. Okay, this is good. This is great. The best part? The tuition I had to pay was the same as it was 6 years ago! No tuition increase! Unfortunately, going back to school after a long break isn’t as easy as I thought. I had to drop out of my Economics class because I struggled so much. My professor, the famous Winnie Monsod, berated me one day after I asked for a special project. “Iho, you cannot possibly finish school and do a full-time job at the same time!” At that time, I could literally hear the hecklers echoing her words. A lot of my friends and frenemies told me I could never do it. So I tried and tried. I dropped a couple of difficult subjects, re-enrolled, and tried again. Fortunately, with sheer determination to prove everyone wrong, I finally got my diploma after 1.5 years. When I showed it to my Dad, it almost made me cry. He told me he was proud that I kept my promise. And I told myself, damn, I finally kept a promise. (at University of the Philippines School of Economics)
Her name is Susan. She is Korean but was born and raised in Alaska, USA. I was on a solo trip in Seoul when I decided to go to the bar strip in Itaewon to meet with a friend who is also in Korea at that time. From the corner of my eye, I saw Susan. She was lovely and she talked to everyone at the bar. When my friend left, she asked me to stay and enjoy the rest of the night with her. I obliged. She brought me to a Korean gay club on the other side of the street. Guys didn’t have to pay but girls were charged US$10. She said it was okay. We literally danced the night away. I think it was the first time I had that much fun with a stranger. The club closed at exactly 5am. I asked if she wanted to eat brekky to get rid of our hangover. We went to the KFC restaurant and ate together. Then she brought me to the train station. My only regret is that we didn’t exchange phone numbers or emails. I don’t even know her last name so I can’t look her up on Facebook. I wonder if she had as much fun as I did that day. (Seoul, 2011) (at Itaewon)
